Everyone wants to be happy. Nobody ever wants to be sad or upset or unhappy. However, despite knowing what we want, many a times happiness manages to escape us. We manage to get almost everything we desire. But this happiness remains elusive! We often use the expressions of happiness, joy and delight synonymously. This is a mistake. Happiness is very different from feeling joyful or ecstatic. It isn 't really an emotion.
Today, I want to talk a little bit about, what exactly happiness is, where it can be found and how we can stay happy.
Defining and Understanding Happiness
Happiness is a state of mind, defined by positive and pleasant influences and emotions that one experiences in life. Happiness is not one exact emotion like contentment or joy. It is more of a scale that ranges between these two emotions. In simple words, a person who is content with life, may not necessarily be happy. Neither
In the article “What Happiness Is’’, by Eduardo Porter, states his point of view about the definition of happiness. Gandhi states “Happiness is when you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony” (qtd. in porter 459). In my opinion happiness can be described in many of ways from different individual’s point of view. My perspective of happiness is when you accomplish something in life, because makes you so proud of what you have done. Happy is something that makes you happy whether it’s a person, a thing or stuff and happiness is desired to be happy. Happiness is important role to maintain happy because without happiness the world would be different.
John Wayne Gacy in his early years was shown to have a minor biological impairment. At the age of 11, Gacy was playing near a swing set and was hit in the head causing an accidental blood clot in the brain. The blood clot was not discovered until he was 16 years old and he suffered from blackouts from the clot from the ages of 11 until it was discovered. There was a brain blockage that medications were able to dissolve. Gacy also had a series of health problems that kept him hospitalized for a significant amount of his childhood. His health issues included a heart condition, an erupted appendix, and numerous blackouts and seizures. Happiness. It is not tangible, measurable or even understandable. Yet, above all other things, it is what people seek the most. Individuals draw happiness from a number of different sources,presumably causing the confusion as to why happiness can not be traced back to a specific object. Still, how can you possibly meet the expectations of being happy? This article will attempt to demystify the subject of happiness.
In my definition of happiness, happiness is when someone who experiences frequent positive emotions. These emotions can all be illustrated with joy, interest, and pride. An unhappy person often portrayed negative emotions, such as anger and sadness.
Happiness is one of the most basic things that people strive for in life. Everyone wants to be happy. There are hormones and compound in your body that make you feel happiness. There are also things in some people's life that make people happy that might make someone else sad. No one wants to be sad. There have also been studies done to see the causes of happiness.
Happiness is something that everyone seeks. It is one of the sole purposes of our lives to find it. Still, there are some people who don’t even know what it is yet. Happiness is when you feel at peace. It is when times are at best and you feel good.
Happiness has been and will be controversial topic that will carry on decades from now. It seems to be not one definite definition based on people’s perception of what it means to be happy or what bring about happiness. Some people believe it is just an end goal while others take it as the beginning point to further greatness. People seem to usually draw happiness from a vast number of things. Generally, happiness comprises of an emotional and mental state of well-being that can be characterized through pleasing and positive emotions such as contentment and joy. However, happiness has been researched and defined differently based on religious views, biological views, philosophical and psychological views. In this essay, I will clarify the enigma about happiness and how it is attained.
Happiness is what all human beings/rational beings desire. It is always the end (goal) of our activities, it is an unconditional good.
The fourth question, what is knowledge?, Plato answer was it is attainable but it requires effort. Aristotle answer was the soul or mind begins to acquire knowledge through a sense of experience of things, but achieves full knowledge through abstracting the Forms from the things. The fifth question, what is the problem?, Plato answer was failure of people to seek the true good of the mind or soul. Aristotle answer was failure to use ones reason is the chief theoretical or intellectual vice. The sixth question, what is the solution? Plato answer was to be happy even if the society as a whole does not do this. Also the love of wisdom is still the greatest good of the mind or soul and therefore, the mind or soul prepares itself to return to the realm of the Forms when death frees it from the body. Aristotle answer was learn to use reason, both practical and intellectual, and through this it brings the greatest happiness in this life, and there is no indication of afterlife.
Happiness doesn’t just happen – it has to be made, it has to be produced, created, discovered, built from the ground up. And it has to be a decision in one’s mind: the decision to be happy. It is really simple, believe it or not. One must have a conviction to be happy no matter what trouble life throws at them; because life can certainly disrupt a person’s happiness, getting in the way of them enjoying their own life, with all the countless and never-ending mishaps and suffering. Happiness is something that comes to those who expect it and therefore deserve it.
Happiness is a word that we often use without truly thinking about its meaning. After reading this chapter one of the insight that I found intriguing is how different people look at happiness in a different perspective. This chapter truly made me think about what happiness truly is about. We often use the word without truly thinking of what it really means to be happy. Happiness is something everyone has at some time or another. For some people it is very hard to find it. There are many meanings of happiness because not all people feel the same about the meaning of the word. My own personal definition of the word is when you find someone of something that gives your own life a purpose. Obviously that’s not the only reason why people feel happy. Another big thing is that happiness isn’t something you have to pursue, it needs to be something you want to pursue.
Novelist, Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his fictional novel, “The Scarlet Letter”, expresses a story about a young woman, Hester Prynne, back in the 1600s who was convicted of adultery and must now wear a big “A” on her chest to show those in the small Massachusetts Bay colony the sin she has committed. Hawthorne’s purpose is to illustrate the hardships Hester must go through for committing such act in the small colony where religion was put first. Hawthorne adopts a serious and pitiful tone throughout the novel to get the adult readers to sympathize with the main character, Hester Prynne. Though this book was written back in the 1800s and is based off a woman who’s shamed for adultery, this book can still relate to today’s world with some of
Happiness… It could be said that there is no one in this whole wide world who does not want to be happy. We live every single day in hope to find happiness, which also known as pursuit of happiness. We strive to bring happiness in our life. Nonetheless, along the journey to find happiness, some people stumble and find themselves unhappy instead. One might question why, but actually we all have different value and understanding to describe happiness. Therefore, we have our own unique approach to pursue happiness and there is no telling to the exact cause of our wrongs and errors in the process. What might have been the cause, which most people hardly notice, is their perception of happiness. There are three most common misconception of happiness that lead to unhappy life.
