“Dancer’s are the athletes of God,” Albert Einstein said. Dance has many structures to it; there is modern, ballet, contemporary, and tap just to name a few. Dancing should be recognized as a sport. Dancing has the same components as a sport does; dance improves memory, balance and coordination, and it provides a mental escape.

The first reason is that dance improves memory by learning choreography from many different classes. Doctors have been trying for decades to find innovative ways to slow the cognitive decline seen in older adults. A 2017 study found that more dancers had positive changes in mood than any other sport. Not unlike a "runner's high," rhythmic movement has been shown to trigger the release of endorphins, which can boost your mood. As much of a mental exercise as a physical one, dancing keeps the mind sharp. In adolescent females, a regular dance class positively impacted their mental health. A study by the American Medical Association found that adolescent girls had more positive thoughts and felt more confidence after dancing. They reported better feelings about their overall health after participating in structured dance classes that focused on enjoying movement rather than perfection and performance

Some may argue that dance is an art and not a sport. Yet, it has the same characteristics as a sport does.

In conclusion, dancing should be considered a sport because dancing improves memory, balance and coordination, and provides the best mental escape for your brain. If dance were considered a sport then the world would agree. The point is that even though dance is one of the world’s true art forms, it is still a sport, and should be considered one by all of society, including athletes
