Two examples of intraspecific competition, which is the competition for a shared resource among members of the same species are Patella cochlear because they compete for food and space (Branch, 1975), and Helicopsyche borealis larvae that also compete for periphyton (Lamberty, Feminella, & Resh, 1987). Two examples of interspecific competition, which is the competition for limited resources between individuals of different species are lions and leopards because both feed on the same prey, and two different species of trees in a dense forest because they compete for the incoming sunlight (Diamond, 1978). Intraspecific competition is the most intense competition because members of the same species compete between each other for the same
Since organisms living in communities form interdependent relationships, a change in the abundance of one species will not only affect the physical and more direct interactions, but could indirectly affect the number of other species within the community as a consequence (Wootton 1993). These indirect affects rise because the interactions between pairs of species are not independent of other species, such as increasing the density of vegetation may increase the survival rate of the prey, reducing the intensity of the interaction between the predator and prey (Wootton 1993, 1994). An
e) RIVALRY - What factors impact on the rivalry and how? What is the power of Rivalry?
Extinction: Most species become extinct because they can’t cope with the environmental change, and also because of introduced species that turned into competitors for
The coyote and badger is a great example of mutualism. Coyotes normally don’t hunt in packs or in tight knit groups but is often found hunting with the badger. The best example would be hunting in prairie dog fields. The coyote takes the prairie dogs on the ground while scaring other dogs into their holes where the badger is. When the badger hunts underground catching it’s prey it also scares dogs up to the ground where the coyote is. So basically the badger and coyote work together to corner up the prairie dogs and eat until they get their fill.
This report discusses an experiment to study the relationship between the ecological niche and competition. The hypothesis formulated states that if competition traits are identical and resources are abundant than multiple species will be able to coexist, and if one species has an advantage over the others than this species will be more likely to out compete another species for resources. The objective of this experiment is to use a simulation model of a rabbit pen containing four different “species” of rabbits. The model establishes rules for each species that are based on a number of important characteristics reflecting their ecological niches and their competitive abilities. These
An example of an invasive species is “Cane Toad.” The cane toad was supposed to get rid of sugar cane pest, but then it came a pest. It only has a few predators outside from where it lives. But when animals try to eat it a discharge of poison goes on it’s skin and the predator gets poisoned and dies in a few minutes. Also it has been released into out of zoos on purpose. The cane toad used to live in South America and mainland middle of America, now it has been moved to Oceania and the Caribbean also North Australia. What people do is they eat toad and make soup of their eggs but this ends up killing them.

The advent of new technologies such as the cochlear implant will not ultimately eradicate Deaf culture. The Deaf community is too close-knit to become torn apart. Not everyone has access to these new technologies because they are not eligible for them or the price is not right for their low budgets. Similarly, not everyone will be successful with the cochlear implant and most will return to Deaf culture for the rest of their lives. However, for those who are successful, they can still be a part of Deaf culture if they are bilingual and have adequate access to the Deaf community and its members. Knowledge is power and ASL education is spreading throughout high schools and universities all over the United States. These are several factors that
In all symbiotic relationships, one of the species involved in benefited. In Mutualism, both are benefited, in Parasitism one is harmed by the other’s gain, is commensalism one is not affected by the other’s gain. In a Cooperative relationship, both are working together to achieve a common goal. In Predation, one organism is preyed upon by another, who will most likely use the organism for food.
The ecosystem consists of communities with different populations of species. Each diverse animal in the ecosystem has a unique way of surviving the abiotic and biotic factors in the environment through its traits; behavioral traits, morphological traits and physiological traits. Some of its traits prevent these organisms from predation, and others allows organism to survive when temperature are too high or too low. The strategy to survival depends on the animal. Let’s talk about the Procyon lotor also known by the name raccoon (Source 2).
b) Species A is the predator and species B is the prey. When species B’s population increases, it allows for the increase in population for the predator species.
One example of cooperation is that of the queen trigger fish and the bar jack. Trigger fish feed on invertebrates like crabs, and shell fish, while the bar jack feeds on other fish. Becuase the trigger fish does not eat fish, other fish are not threatened by them. So the bar jack hides behing the trigger fish so it can get closer to its prey without being detected. A good example of competition is that of fighting corals. Because coral rely on sunlight, there is often competition between them for acess to this reasource. This can be seen in the DMZ's. These are areas were "corals have met, done battle, and withdrawn. This is an obvious space where neither coral ventures, having concluded that furthur conflict is not worth the cost."
Being able to hear is something I think most people take for granted. But what if you cannot hear? On July 15, 2015, I was afforded the opportunity to observe eight-year-old Braydon Smith and five-year-old Peyton Smith, who were born deaf. Their names were changed to protect their identity. Their younger sister, Mackenzie, whose name was also changed to protect her identity, did not have any issues with her hearing. I met with both boys and their mother, Sandra Smith, at a relative’s home in Belton, Texas. However, the family lives in Loganville, Georgia. I found both boys to be energetic, and playful. Their mother seemed excited to tell her sons’ stories. Present at the meeting was Sandra Smith,
Predation is a main example of a relationship between organisms. Predation involves predators and prey, such as a fox catching and eating a rabbit. There are two other forms of predation called, parasitism and grazing. Parasitism is where the host organism is exploited and used for benefit by the other organism called a
Movements towards different niches would be ideal for maggots to reduce intraspecific competition but decrease interspecific competition while doing so, however that doesn’t have to be the
