Have you ever had a goal and you would do anything to achieve it? Changing how we are and the things we do for people in life, is not as impossible as it seems. I have seen people do amazing things that have changed their lives forever. It is special to have that feeling that you just met your goal and it was the biggest goal you had out of all of the other goals. That is how goals shape us in life.
There are people who have done things to reach their goals like Chris, in the book Into the Wild. Chris had a goal of going to Alaska and living in the wilderness. Having that goal and going that far is what shapes us. “Wandering across North America in Search of raw, transcendent experience. His family had no idea where he was until his remains turned up in Alaska” (pg. 1). Chris went all over the United States getting help from people to get

Lennie had a goal of getting to see the rabbits and petting them. “I wish we’d get the rabbits pretty soon, George. They ain’t so little” (pg.10). All he ever wanted to do was get to the rabbits and so that’s all Lennie did. Getting into some trouble on the way and he kept going.
In the same book George has some other ideas. George also had a goal of living on a farm. He wanted Lennie out of his life and be free with a woman. “I wish I wouldn’t have to deal with you. I could start my own life with a girl with me” (pg.67). George has always cleaned up after Lennie when something goes wrong and having to leave every time something happens.
Although many people disagree, goals shape us. A lot of people think that others help them to achieve goals. But no one thinks that if they have a goal. They think it is something totally different. People have said things that they think is a dream. It is really is a goal because wanting to do something special in life. Having a goal and a dream are both the same and that is how goals shape us in
In life many people set goals for themselves. For some people it maybe a goal such as obtaining a high test grade and for others it maybe to one day own a race car. Everybody has a different outlook on life and everyone has different goals in which they one day hope to achieve. The people who achieve their goals are those who are motivated and determined to do so. When these goals are achieved it is then when you are a hero to yourself.
George told Lennie numerous times how much better his life would be without Lennie. One of these times George had said, “God a’mighty, if I was alone I could live so easy, I could go get a job an’ work, an’ no trouble” (Steinbeck 11). This shows one of the many instances where George says he just wanted to be able to have a normal life, have a job and settle down. George was never able to have this normal life while with Lennie because of the fact Lennie messed up many of their jobs causing them to have to move and find new jobs. As one can see, Lennie was holding back George from the start, but never knew
“I want you to stay with me, lennie. Jesus christ somebody’d shoot you for a coyote if you was by yourself. No, you stay with me. Your aunt clara wouldn’t like you running off by yourself even if she is dead” - (Steinbeck 13). This quote shows George looking out for Lennie.
12-13) George has every reason to be frustrated with Lennie, but it is still sad to see that Lennie is disappointed in himself for frustrating George. Lennie tells George that if he does not want to look after him anymore then he will go and live in the mountains by himself. (Pg. 14.
Lennie had dreams of living on a ranch and raising rabbits and George just took that away from Lennie. George will no one to live out the rest of his life with. If he goes back to a different ranch or another place for work, he won’t have anyone to help him. Even though George hated having Lennie around, Lennie helped George a lot. Lennie protected George from Curley by crushing his hand.
Success is a feeling of accomplishment when we overcome challenges and reach our goals. Whether it's achieving academic excellence, excelling in our careers or making a positive impact on the world, success is a journey that requires dedication, perseverance and self-belief. In Into The Wild, Jon Krakauer shows that Chris McCandless was successful despite his early death, in that he achieved his voyage to the Alaskan wilderness and found the happiness he was looking for. One way Chris McCandles was successful is because he accomplished his goal of hitchhiking into the Alaskan wilderness. When McCandless was talking to Stucke, one of the men that drove him, Stucke found out that “It was something he’d wanted to do since he was little” (159).
George took Lennie in after Lennie’s aunt died. George knew his aunt pretty well. Lennie had nowhere to go afterwards, so George let Lennie come along with him. George wasn’t always nice to Lennie in the beginning. George would tease him and trick him. Lennie didn’t know any better than to listen to George, even if it was a taunt. After an incident happened to Lennie, George stopped tormenting him. He felt bad for Lennie and how he treated him. From this moment on, George actually took into consideration of Lennie’s mindset. In the book, Steinbeck writes,
George takes care of Lennie many ways. George has taken care of Lennie for a long time. George took him under his wing even though he didn’t need to. George genuinely cares for Lennie. He feeds him, makes sure he is safe, also he gives him hope. George is constantly watching Lennie. George is a good friend to Lennie; however, George gets annoyed with Lennie very easily. He does this to make sure he doesn’t get into trouble or lost. He never leaves him by himself. This is shown when Lennie offers to leave, but George tells him “I want you to stay with me Lennie”(Steinbeck 104). George really cares for Lennie.
For example, when my grandmother was young, she used to dream about being surrounded by a loving family. She was an orphan. She often tells me stories about how she would lie awake at night dreaming about just that. Many kids in her orphanage used to tell her that none of them were ever going to have a life like that “Why would we?” they said, “can you not see not even our parents wanted us!” Despite all the harsh words, she kept on dreaming and overcame all her obstacles and has reached her goal. Even though your goals might seem impossible, if you dream big you might get just that.
George could have left Lennie easily or could have turned him into the authorities. George however, is loyal to their dream, and that dream
Everyone has aspirations, some tend to be more steadfast, others last only a short amount of time. A goal is something we aim for, something that we try our best to keep a firm grip on.
Lennie can’t control his own strength and he is not very smart and don’t know what he does. In the beginning, Lennie liked to pet mice and not realizing it killing them. It leads up to grabbing a girl's skirt, in the town of weed making them run out and hide in a ditch. Toward the chapter one ending George was concerned with Lennie making another mistake, making them move again. George told him if any trouble was to happen he was to leave and hide in the brush and wait for him to arrive. Lennie received a newborn pup but one day when he was playing unrealizing it crushing the puppy. The worst thing any person could have done is murder. He snatched her hair, grabbing her and then final the snapping of the Curley's wife's
Zoey awoke from her well deserved slumber in her first class of the day, being awoken by Mrs. Serrano yelling "Zoey"! "Mrs. Serrano" she retorted sleeplessly, trying to sit up to the best of her ability. "Do you know why George killed Lennie out of love"? "Can I ask a question? Who's Lennie" she inquired in all seriousness. "If you had been reading the book you would know" she snapped and moved onto the next person before I could answer.
The goals that we set come from our dreams and those are the things that we see ourselves doing in our dreams or from a
“To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.” People often get dreams mixed up with goals. Maybe it’s because they don’t know the difference or because it’s easier to imagine than it is to do. Something that you can close your eyes and picture it happening simply because we don’t want to put in the time and effort it takes to accomplish these so called “goals”. Sure, you can start off with a dream, but you can’t stop there. Eventually those dreams you have need to become plans, and just like that those plans convert to goals and if you want it bad enough you can have it. My ultimate goal, the one above all the rest, is to become a litigation lawyer.
