In the story "Into The Wild" money and freedom are the 2 Things Alex (Chris) has to battle with. When it comes to money, Alex has to rely on it in order to eat to give him the energy and nutrients to continue on with his journey.When it comes to freedom, Alex relies on it due to society being corrupt. To Alex freedom was the main objective for him as he traveled through Alaska, his hope from Being free from society drove him to embark on a radical journey.
Freedom is Chris favorite word, he has explored 3/4 of the west coast . It all started in Alaska, where his devotion to freedom began. A man named Gallien spotted Chris on the side of the road shivering, as any other normal person Gallien picked him and drove Chris to his destination. Chris enjoyed being independent and being free from others norms. For Example, when Gallien picked up Chris he asked him a few questions such as if he had a hunting licenses. Chris feels uncomfortable when it comes to being involved in society. According to his journal,Chris went to L.A " to get a ID a job but it feels extremely uncomfortable in society now and must return to road immediately" meaning it didn't feel right for him to have those necessities that society has to offer. Also Chris does not like being told how to live his life. In chapter 6, Chris was a little temperamental towards Mr. Franz because he was trying to help Chris realize his potential and deter him from risky behavior such as hitch hiking. Alex response towards Mr. Franz was a little arousing he states " Look Mr. Franz" , he declared " you don't need to worry about me . I have a college education. I'm not destitute. I'm living like this by choice" this can also be a reason why he left home, he wanted to be free from lectures and be capable of living the life he
