The article “Into the Dark Water” by Lauren Tarshis is about Jack Thayer who was on the real “Titanic” and lived. He was 17. In the article it tells about him trying to get off the ship after it hits an iceberg. The article included many exact quotes from him. I think the author included the exact quotes so people can imagine it in their head more. When you can imagine the story in your head it makes the story or article easier to understand and more fun to read. In the text it says, “but we did not give up hope.” That sentence just makes you want to read more. Also, “It was the biggest, most elegant, high-tech ship ever built.” That just puts an image of the “Titanic in your head. That’s just one of the reasons why I think the author included
I examine how rising or falling tide can affect the water level of Corte Madera Salt Marsh in this report. The data is from Wednesday (June 19th) and Thursday (June 20th). My hypothesis is that tide and water level have positive relationship. From the result, I learn that the water level and tide have positive relationship. However, when tide changes its direction, the water level is likely to stay or little change.
For another example “Nobody yet thought of any serious trouble.” It showed that the ride was going to give people trouble.. It gives you a realistic feeling about the titanic. Another quote is “but we did not give up.” It really shows bravery within him and that he will not give up until it's over. One other example is
Please briefly describe the different types of water pollution mentioned throughout the "Poisoned Waters" video. Fertilizers, Nitrogen and Phosphorous caused algae which poisoned the waters. It caused a dead zone. The farmers who own chickens was allowing the manure to pollute the water. The humans race is all responsible as we pollute our water by throwing garbage into it. Soap, household cleaning agents, toothpaste, and other plastic, lubricant and fuels are all poisoning our water.
on its maiden voyage in 1912 the British ocean liner titanic sank after ramming an iceberg in the north atlantic ocean. the nearest ship the California did not get the SOS message because the radio operator had gone to bed and turned off his radio. the titanics captain Edward j smith knew that there were only enough lifeboats for half the 2100 people on board in the panic even those were not filled. seventeen year old jack Thayer from Philadelphia was not lucky enough to get into a lifeboat but as the titanic slid into the water, he dived from its deck into the ice waters coming upon an overturned lifeboat he hung on until the carpathian came to his rescue at dawn more than 1500 other people were not so
The author needs quotes to know what really happened the day of the Titanic tragedy. If the author didn’t have quotes, we might not know if the ship was supposedly unsinkable, or like what Jack says in the text about his father, “‘Of course, I should have known that he would never have left without me”. If we didn’t have that quote from Jack, we wouldn’t even know if he died or got on a lifeboat!
I confirmed with Mystic representative today that they will not be able to provide distilled water under private label “Mystic Water”, neither to McKesson or neither to us. They can supply the same distilled water but under other label( “ Summit”). However, the shipping cost from their plant in VA will make this water quite expensive. Price for 1 cases will be around $10.
Life takes a strong toil when war strikes. People start to lose hope in survival and start believing in the wrong source of power. Revenge and world domination. It takes one to realize what truly matters, and that is life. But there are factors to lead to one’s survival and hope for a better path. In the novel that Linda Sue Park had written; a Long Walk To Water. Tells a story of compassion, bravery, and a little bit of luck, during one of the worst times in Southern Sudan. Told from a perspective of a young boy named Salva. Throughout the book, Salva had many factors that made survival possible for him, they include; Marial, Uncle, some luck on the way. These are the factors that helped him survive, even when tomorrow did not seem
History is something that molds and shapes a person into who they are today. Thomas King shows this in his novel Truth and Bright Water through many of the characters. He not only lets you see how the aboriginal people’s history has affected their lives today, but also how the personal history of some characters has affected their lives. A person’s past can help one understand why they live their life the way they do; it is the answer to any question you had about them. All the minor events that go on throughout the novel explain how history affects an individual’s identity and Franklin, aunt Cassie and Monroe are excellent examples.
I relate to the struggles of raising a son, like the father in A Secret Lost in the Water. I can vividly remember the moment when my child was born as I knew that my world completely changed. I stared into his innocent eyes and knew that I had possessed a responsibility greater than I ever had before. Truthfully, I never had strong urges either way on the decision of becoming a father. However, after the two rough days in the hospital, our bond grew exponentially. Every day, I strive to impart all that I could offer. Therefore, the time when the Harder family went to the Science North Museum in Sudbury is a perfect example how my principals of parenting compare and contrast to the father in the story.
How hard is it to do the right thing? In the article, “The Man in the Water”, many people did the right thing right until the end. “The Man in the Water” takes place in Washington D.C., where there was a blast of winter. It was a chaotic disaster that caught the nation’s attention. In reality, not everyone is willing to be the “good guy”. Everyone have once, thought of themselves more than others but, in this article, not everyone was selfish. Not being selfish, showed heroism and bravery. In the article “The Man in the Water”, Roger Rosenblatt uses conflict and setting to develop moral courage.

“What the hell is water?” “This is Water” was originally given as a speech to college students before it was published in essay form. David Foster Wallace, in his essay “This is Water”, addresses the importance of awareness and perceptiveness of others. He believes this and proper education can help people become well-adjusted to the world around them. He adopts a humorous, personal, and important tone in order to accomplish his rhetorical purpose.
The RMS Titanic; A Tragedy Based on Class. In April, 1912, the so called "unsinkable" Titanic set sail to New York. The great ship was as big as five city blocks, and weighed thousands and thousands of tons. Everyone who was everyone grabbed a room on the luxurious ship for the trip of a lifetime. “Hard water is water that contains cations with a charge of +2, especially Calcium and Magnesium.” This is a direct quote from Professor Rachel Casiday and Regina Frey from the Department of Chemistry at Washington University. Essentially, water hardness is the minerals that are built up into the ground water that can have several different effect on the water. It is determined by several different cations, but in this experiment, only by the amount of Ca^(2+) and Mg^(2+). Water is an absolute necessity to life. “About 80 liters of water per person per day is required to sustain a reasonable quality of life” (PSU Chemtrek). Being able to determine the quality of the water you drink is needed in order to maintain good health.
An American writer named Morgan Robertson once wrote a book called The Wreck of the Titan. The book was about an “unsinkable” ship called the Titan that set sail from England to New York with many rich and famous passengers on board. On its journey, the Titan hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sunk. Many lives were lost because there were not enough lifeboats. So, what is so strange about this? Well, The Wreck of the Titan was written 14 years before the Titanic sank.
