On Tuesday October 3rd my fellow classmates and I had another opportunity to interview a teacher. However, this time the interview went a little different than the first one.The teacher who we interviewed not only has taught students for many years but he has also been able to see other areas besides teaching. This has led him to appreciate the teaching profession a lot more. Mr Gibson, whose parents were farmers grew up in the Bronx of New York. He is a licensed lawyer who worked in the field for 20 years. After retiring from working as a lawyer Mr Gibson decided that going back to teaching would be best for him. So, that's what he did. Mr Gibson is experienced teaching in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and even special ed classes. The first thing that Mr Gibson shared about teaching with us was that everyday he wakes up, he wants to go to work. “Now that's very rare.” he stated. He said he doesn't know many people like that but because of how much he loves his job, he finds joy in going to work. One of the things he find most interesting about the teaching profession is that he can't believe he gets paid money to help people. To him, being kind to others is an everyday task that everyone should fulfill. He shared that he is nice to people because that's what he believes is right not because he wants money for it. Even though I volunteered in different schools, I never had the opportunity to ask about the real feelings of a teacher. During the interview, I learned that there is more than just teaching in becoming a teacher. This is because she told me how one of her hesitation on becoming a teacher is the time one dedicates for the job. She told me that when one is teacher, one must prepare lesson plans, come to school early to prepare for the day, and even stay longer to grade papers. She said that her typical day starts at 7:30 am to prepare materials and school instruction starts from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm. Then, even though the class ends already, she needs to create lesson plans for the entire week. She said that all these things are part of a teacher’s job, but they do not get paid to do these things. Therefore, I learned that being a teacher is not easy because there are a lot of extra responsibilities beyond the job description and that being a teacher extend beyond the classroom. Additionally, her answer made me reflect on whether I want a job, where I have to work more than the “work hours.” However, despite this workload, what amazes me was when she said that if she could go back, she would still choose to be a teacher because of her passion to make a difference in the lives of the
Why is teaching an important profession to me? Life is about something, but what it is about for me it is the passing of knowledge that will make society move forward. Without the teacher, we would be in the dark, because, the light of someone teaching would not be. We would not advance as a society, on Medicare or agricultural advances.
Going into the teaching profession has been my passion for quite some time now. Although teaching can have many different stereotypes and misconceptions, I still choose to continue towards this career. Every job has it’s own stereotypes and misconceptions. I currently work at a school, which has offered me a lot of on the job training for my future career. My current job has allowed me to see the different stereotypes and misconceptions that come along with the teaching career field. I am fortunate to already be working in my career field so I can prepare for the future stereotypes and misconceptions when I am a teacher of my own classroom.
Doctor Patrick Clancy was telling how difficult was for him at the beginning of his teaching career. Couldn’t afford many things, but with passion and determination kept going receiving rewarding compliments by his past student’s parents. He believes that in order to be a good teacher, you need to work many hours.
Gibson had explained to us that the biggest challenge is enjoying what you teach, especially when there can be multiple classes that you teach at a time. For example, in an episode of Boy Meets World, Mr. Feeny wants to retire because he felt unsatisfied with his teaching and believes that his students are not benefiting from him. Furthermore, in this particular episode, a couple of students egged and his tepid his house because, they did not approve of the exam schedule. As a result, Mr. Feeny felt that he had failed his students because he felt that he does not have anything else to teach them. This is due to his age and taking on all these classes to teach at one time. Overall, Mr. Gibson could have given us a bunch of more important information for our questions because, I felt that he did not really answer them well and that he was just talking about what he felt like talking about. On the other hand, I was able to write down some good notes from him and learned multiple important things that will help me to become a better teacher. He did talk about the importance of what you need to know when you have a classroom of your own. You would expect that Mr. Gibson is probably a really good teacher because he has a bunch of classes that the principal hired him to teach and that the kids probably like him a lot because he talked about keeping the classroom in
I have taught students ranging from five years old to nineteen years of age. Hence, being an educator, I have learned that learning is always shifting, therefore I must keep improving with the incessant changes. As a little girl, I have always dreamt of being a teacher and I have carried out that dream. My career journey started as a substitute teacher, a floater between classrooms, an assistant teacher, a teacher, a center supervisor, and an educational supervisor. I presently work as an Educational consultant for Danya International LLC. When interviewing Mrs. F, she explained that a behavior concern for Richard is his inability to stay focus on a task for a long period of time. She mentioned, “He loves to walk around the class, especially when he sees a group of students talking. Richard will get up and try to join their conversation”. She expressed that his peers have difficulty understanding what he is saying because of his lack of speech. When asking her what she does when he becomes to wonder around the classroom, she mentioned that he just tells him to return to his seat. Richard is response positive to commands when they are given to him. He has not shown aggressive behavior when he does not get his way with Mrs. F. Mrs. F
She explained positive parts about being a teacher as being able to do what you love with growing children. As children go through stages of development, it is a good feeling to see what they are going to become in the future. She explains the bond she has with her students as one of the greatest feelings in the world. In early childhood, being their first teacher can have a major impact on how well they are going to do. Being able to create a good well-educated start to education is important. She explained that she wants to be able to educate children in the best way she can because the outcome of seeing them succeed is amazing.
The teacher I interviewed has taught for more than ten years at the same school. She started as a fourth grade teacher but she now works as an interventionist.
In my 24 years of experience employed with the Department of Education I have found that working with children watching as they grow is inspiring as much as it is rewarding. Teaching helps one to sharpen their skills on all levels for the curriculum is forever changing. Being an educator has its challenging moments but its something I want to accomplish. To be successful at educating others I must continue to grow, increase and improve within.
I learned a lot from doing this interview. One thing thing in particular that I appreciated was that he said he did not always anticipate becoming a principal or wanting to be a one and decided to become a principal after several years as a teacher. I have been very indecisive about my career path so learning that you can decide later and still succeed helped calm my nerves. When I asked, Mr. Evans stated that he does not regret becoming a principal, which is a big fear of mine; that I will spend years working towards a position and then regret it or wish I had taken another path. Another point I learned is that, according to him, the current climate in the country is generally not so favorable toward teaching in a public school. He said that because of this, as a leader, it is especially important to give positive feedback whenever possible and to let the teachers know they are doing a good job. One of the most interesting points Mr. Evans made during the interview was when he said he needs to be as much of a cheerleader as anything else. I also learned that, a lot of the times, moments when your ethics will be questioned are the result of miscommunication or misperception. Leaders must always be reflective in those situations and look at whether there was something that could have been done better or differently. Even if a person does not have any facts right, it is best to at least apologize for how they are feeling about a situation and then go from there.
For this assignment I’ll be interviewing Jessica Garza, my uncles five-year long girlfriend and a wonderful seventh grade teacher. I hope to learn a lot about her job because it is something I’m interested in doing myself, also I hope to learn about the work it took to get there, her plans for the future and how she became successful.
My decision to be a teacher did not come easily to me. This choice was dependent on a reflection about what I was passionate about and how I could make a difference. I have chosen to become a teacher, as I believe teachers have the ability to provide future generations the stimulation for one of the most significant roles in life; to become a lifelong learner. Many teachers that I have had during my education have had a positive impact on my decision to grow and develop the skills that are fundamental to pursue a successful teaching career. My aim is to be a part of an honorable profession with the optimism that one day I will become an efficacious teacher who can provide future teachers with inspiration, as my teachers have provided for me. Through personal educational experiences and peer-reviewed academic literature, I am able to shape my approach to my pre-service teaching, as it will influence my future practice. As a teacher, there is not just one singular approach to educating students; there is a need for flexibility, diversity, adaptation and reflection.
This past semesters has been an eye opening experience that has changed my views on teacher. Ever since I was little, I have always wanted to be a fourth grade teacher. However after being placed in a second grade classroom my views have changed. I liked the idea of teaching fourth grade because my fourth grade teacher was my inspiration in life. When I was in Ms. Petro’s class I enjoyed being able to watch the students progress over time. Being able to see the drastic improvements in little children is very rewarding and that is why I want to continue to teach lower grades. I have learned that being a teacher requires a special someone, a person who knows that sometimes you will have to deal with tough situations leaving you exhausted and feeling like you are not able to help more. But at the same time, being a teacher allows one to be a visionary for the world and those who surround you.
When I think about teachers that I have had in the past, several different ones come to my mind. Each of these educators stands out in my mind for a variety of diverse reasons. Whether it is their sense of humor, their tactfulness, their love of the subject matter, their fanatical and sporadic behavior, or their yearning to be childish themselves, I can still remember at least one quality of every teacher I have ever encountered. Every one of these teachers conveyed subject material to their students just as they were educated and employed to do. However, I trust that every professional in the world has an abundance of opportunity for improvement; teachers could discover and improve themselves merely by having
