Interracial Marriage Interracial marriage is a form of exogamy when two spouses that belong to different races or even on the occasion of same-sex couples. Interracial marriage became legal in all of the U.S states in 1967. The Supreme Court decision that deemed anti-miscegenation laws unconstitutional, with many states choosing to legalize interracial marriage at much earlier dates. Many jurisdictions have had regulations banning or restricting not just interracial marriage but also interracial sexual relations. Social media might be the biggest tool in which interracial relationships and marriage in shown off and seen on, because everyone is on or either has a social media. Whether it’s Instagram, Twitter, and or Facebook, if you are on some type of social media you will see some type of interracial relationship or some sort. Television has been a way that brings people together. By forms of communication and connection’s. And a TV show that brought out interracial relationships and marriage was the TV show “I love Lucy”. The show aired in 1951, and it was the first televised show to have an interracial relationship. The TV show starred Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo she was an Anglo woman married to Cuban bandleader Desi Arnaz as Ricky Ricardo. Another TV show that was popular and really got people’s attention was the show called “The Jefferson’s” the show premiered in 1975 on a popular channel called CBS. The two married interracial couples were neighbors to the Jefferson’s. A few cons are the children may get treated differently at school at a young age, the child could come out looking like more of one of the parents than the other. You will have to explain race to your child before the world starts to question them. But at some point the child may be identified with one race over the other, they may relate to one group over another due to common interests, or the fact that one group is nicer to them than the another. But however there’re pros about having a biracial child. Having a biracial child gives them the background of two or more cultural backgrounds. They can understand and relate better to other biracial
