At the beginning of my senior year, I committed myself to additional volunteer works. These volunteer activities require leadership skills that I have learned previously. Some of these activities include:

As a committed member of the SGA/Leadership class, I was taught to lead by example. I achieved missions to instill values of integrity, passion, and service as I cooperated that into my school and community. The class handed me the opportunity to host school-sponsored events while giving me a hands-on, authentic opportunity to learn and develop leadership skills for the future and put the skills learned into practice through the coordination of planning and implementing events. I was nominated to chair numerous committees. Through delegating tasks, working tight-knit with others, laying a foundation for rules, integrity, and values, I earned credibility. Raygene Parks is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Microbiology with a minor in non-profit leadership at Clemson University. Raygene has demonstrated her interest in service through undertaking the role as a Clemson Community Scholar. Her involvement in the program has ignited her interest in pursuing a variety of service-related avenues. She has gained a better understanding of non-profit functionality and community engagement through participating in board meetings for a local food bank, serving as a grant-writer for an international health-focused organization, and undertaking national-based alternative break trips. She is passionate about using leadership roles to assist in constructing servant leaders. She has been able to assist in helping

I have learned from fellow classmates and peers on how to become a selfless leader and follower thinking of others above myself. Throughout my four years of high school, I’ve been a part of many clubs, some that I am still involved in and some with important leadership positions. My main motive in getting involved with my community and school is to improve our school and community. In AFJROTC I have done over 250 hours of community service just within ROTC and have done over 1,000 community service throughout my community and school. I believe in selfless actions to help benefit my neighbor and peer to overall make us both superior. I am currently the Steele’s National Honors Society President, a Flight (class) commander and squadron (leader of all flights) commander, Business manager for 2017-2018 Squire magazine, Class of 2018 reporter (class officer). I have key positions in many clubs and organizations that have over this year improved and exceeded expectations. As I am a Leader, I have learned to become a respected, caring, strong-willed, straight forward, and reputative leader. “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” according to Bill Gates, while John Maxwell tells people that “Leadership is influence - nothing more, nothing less.” Neither of them completely capture leadership, but at the same time, neither of them are wrong. To be a leader, one must empower and influence those they lead in order to get the results they want. Neither one mentions that a leader must be confident in themselves and show others that they are confident with the decisions they make for themselves and others. As president of the Italian National Honor Society at my school, it is my job to promote excellence in the course, as well as in the community. Since our society values giving back to the community, we put an emphasis on community service. Many of the other students in the society worried about completing their hours. I showed them that they did not need to worry about getting their service hours by completing all of my required hours for both National and Italian Honor Societies before the end of November.

I have demonstrated excellence In leadership by being in Future Business Leaders of America ever since I was in my freshman year. I became secretary my freshman year, vice president my sophomore year, and will have acquired the privilege of becoming President my senior year. Being in FBLA has helped me not only grow as a member, but as a leader. Throughout my growth inside the club, I have been able to encourage others to join extracurricular activities, developing my interpersonal skills. Community service has also been a major part of my High School career. Whether it’s first preparing and painting the posters for an activity we are having, to being in charge of a fundraising event, my goal has always been to try to impact the community breaking

I have participated in many clubs where group work and leadership is a necessity: Model United Nations, First Class Leaders, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. In these clubs, as well as in everyday life, I have been afforded the opportunity to share my values, listen to other’s opinions, and come together to find how we can share our values and ideas. However, my outreach and voice has been far more impactful in Mu Alpha Theta, a Math National Honor Society, and First Class Leaders where I gratefully serve on the Executive boards. I have organized many opportunities that have inspired members to commit philanthropic acts for tremendous charities, and in accordance there are numerous people that have received items that bring security

I believe in leading by example. When peers see someone able to communicate and lead in an engaging manner, the bar is set high. In 2014, I was elected as a chair member in my sorority, Delta Delta Delta, which dedicates its time to raising money for St. Jude Research Hospital. To allow my sorority to improve and increase fundraising, I scheduled small get togethers with members in an effort to get to know them and their hopes for the future of the sorority. These smaller meetings allowed me to get to know the girl’s on a more personal level and I found similarities with most everyone: their love for St. Jude and their motivation to raise more money. After months of daily get-togethers and lunches, I reported to the sorority’s board what I had learned, and how we might want to make changes to the approaches we were taking on raising money.

For instance, I have been an altar server at my local church, St. Mary of the Assumption Church, for five years. As an altar server, I assist the priest during mass every Sunday. Furthermore, I regularly do community service in my neighborhood. For example, I’ve renovated houses for the poor, cleaned storm drains, and encouraged recycling in attempts to serve my community. Ergo, through all of my hard labor, I’ve accumulated over 108 hours of community service. These hours of community service are a testament to the truth and service I give to my community. As a senior, I decided to take leadership into my own hands. Starting in the summer of 2015, I began collecting donations for the third trip to D.C. This campaign will eventually turn into my Senior Project, and I do it with pride. I find it challenging to achieve the right balance for everything in my life: school, work, friends, sports, rest, and whatever else joins in the mix. But when I have a passion for something, I always strive to make it work. And I have a passion to give back to those Americans who gave so much.

My roles in Healthy Campus gave me the confidence to go even further a take on leadership positions on campus. Not only was I was elected to an undergraduate student senate positon, but I was also voted in as the top senator for the College of Architecture Arts, and Humanities. I also succeeded in the classroom and achieved a spot on the Dean’s List for the first time in my academic career. Due to my leadership abilities and academic achievements, I was selected for two coveted public speaking roles. The first was at the Clemson Law Enforcement Summit, a gathering of local law enforcement officials to discuss better enforcement strategies for underage drinking and community policing. Although this life-altering, experience serves as a catalyst for my desire to give back and make a difference, it was not until my leadership roles at Florida State that I understood true passion and humility. My junior year, I was honored to serve on the executive committee for Relay For Life at Florida State as the Panhellenic Recruitment Chair. Having little leadership experience and much trepidation, I knew this would be a challenge. Fortunately, the same semester I enrolled in a leadership course that provided me with the framework of effective leadership and gave me the motivation that I needed to excel. The various leadership tests, group activities and classroom conversations in this course and others, heightened my passion for not only leading and serving but accepting and appreciating the diversity that surrounds the world

Throughout my high school career, I have continuously adhered to the qualities of participation, engagement and leadership through being a good citizen, and have not only begun to impact my local community, but also communities abroad in my state. Active involvement in The Boy Scouts of America has helped develop these qualities I hold and more. My volunteering in county-hosted Christmas events, multiple eagle projects, Brown Bag Ministry, street cleanup, student tutoring, technology assistance, and others has combined to over 160 total service hours in just the span of four high school years. Active citizenship continues to show me different ways of life in my own community and is illuminating. What it also creates is initiative. As an Individual in my community I can stand tall and say that I have left a positive mark on those around me. But what I am most proud of is my legacy that I will leave here at Thornapple Kellogg. My service to my community shows up in my leadership skills. In my eyes being a leader means actually doing, instead of talking about it with no action. Under these circumstances, is where I can be a role model to younger generations and make elders feel proud of what my small town has produced. So being a role model to serve others can be seen many way, but it starts in the simplest forms such as saying hello so someone in my school or picking up trash that I might find laying around.
