Opponents of the idea that studying abroad is helpful to Saudi students claim that this initiative is detrimental to Saudi students because they face various kinds of discrimination. Jenny Lee and Charles Rice in “Welcome to America? International Student Perceptions of Discrimination” (2007) state that after the 9/11, different institutes report a declined in international students' enrollment in American schools and its reasons which not have been seen for 35 years. A Forensic Pathologist studies the cause of death of human remains. To become a forensic pathologist it takes time and hard work. The average time at school is thirteen to eighteen years. The average salary is 100k- 500k. At school they have to study anatomy, but also serology and toxicology.
In the 21st century, the Arab and Muslim population faced more discrimination, particularly after the September 9th events in the year 2000. Shammas (2009) examined the impact of 9/11 events on college adjustment of Arab students by implementing a mixed methods study. This study was conducted on Arab students who were Muslim and non-Muslim and non-Arab Muslim students who attended 21 community colleges in California and Michigan. The majority of the 753 participants in this study were female. The researchers identified Arab students as students who were from the Middle East and non-Arab students who were from Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, India, Pakistan, Somalia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bosnia, America, Latin American countries, and Asia. In addition, the researchers clearly identified the procedure for gathering data, which involved distributing surveys on campus (in places such as classrooms, and libraries), and off campuses (in places such as churches, and mosques).
There can be many factors that determine whether or not you can get into a college. Do you have the grades, are you involved in your community, have you been convicted. Many questions like those listed above have been commonly asked to applicants who apply for major colleges universities. However, you are never asked your ethnicity during an interview, usually they give you an application to fill out and they have a space that allows you to check which race you are. Some people feel as though they may have been discriminated against because of their race or ethnicity. It may be true for some, but not all cases are alike, in the sense that racial discrimination in college applicants
This essay will consist of the cause of discrimination and how it can affect the behaviour, experiences and limited life chances towards an individual’s suffering with addiction issues. Individuals suffering with addiction are a marginalised group in society, as parts of society have lack of knowledge with addiction and do not see this as the “norm” but as a part of a “sub-culture”. It is how society view these individuals that push them away from recovery and can deteriorate there addiction issues and create barriers for these individuals which can reduce their life chances at getting employment, housing, starting a club etc.
How do Latin American students make sense of racial discrimination through stereotypes in the U.S education system?
This paper is about the similarities and differences of individual and institutional discrimination. In this research paper it will discuss comparing and contrasting between the two types of discrimination and what type of discrimination is common in the United States.
Many factors contribute to the mistreatment of Arabs in the United States, but particular events have occurred in America that increased and encouraged these feelings in many people. Knowing how students of different ethnicities feel about their school experiences is vital to building trust. Understanding and respect among people can change the world with regard to diversity. The terms Arabs and/or Arab-Americans have a negative meaning attached to them. For instance Arab is associated with violence abusive, Arab is also seen as a threat or foreign to Americans. This kind of behavior will lead to unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of the color of their skin. In “Arab in American,” by Toufic El Rassi, El Rassi tells about his own personal experience as an average Arab American who struggled with his
However, the change from home to college can be difficult for international students (Mesidor & Sly, 2016). While some international students find it easy to adjust to the transition, others international students find it challenging to adjust to the transition (Mesidor & Sly, 2016). Studies show that international students experience many challenges as a result of language and cultural barriers, academic difficulties, financial difficulties, medical issues, housing concerns, food differences, alienation, homesickness, lack of social support system, racial discrimination, and cross-cultural loss) (Akanwa, 2015; Guzman et al., 2015; Mesidor & Sly, 2016; Sherry et al., 2010; Smith & Khawaja, 2011; Tung, 2011; Zhang & Goodson, 2010). According to Prieto-Welch (2016), international students as a group are regarded as a main minority population in campuses
The American Dream is the idea that in America, people have the ability to reach success and wealth, while maintaining a happy self and family. Immigrants from countries around the world have traveled to America, for nearly a century now, to achieve this dream of riches and happiness. The American Dream is unattainable, because the obstacles of achieving the it are larger for certain genders, races, and social classes.
Current discrimination toward Arabs or Islamic groups based on the unfounded view of them as terrorists, directly isolate them from the rest of society as Professor Talip Kucukcan says, “Muslims are not able to—or not encouraged to report some of the assaults and threats against imams or physical attacks on Muslim women wearing head scarf and desecration of mosques and other Islamic sites simply because they believe that their complaints will not be taken on board by the authorities” (Kucukcan). Therefore, as a multicultural nation, the U.S. should strive to inform its people about the nonthreatening image of Muslim people to further integrate them into American
According to Hallahan, Kauffman, & Pullen (2015) there isn’t a known culture that doesn’t discriminate in some way. For example, Australia has a history of discriminating against the Aboriginal people that are native to Australia. Correspondingly, South Africa had an apartheid for decades that the country is still dealing with the consequences of. Even the United State of America that prides itself on being the melting pot of the world have a history of discriminating against different cultures. In fact, the United States was settled by people that where running away from religious discrimination. However, they turned around and discriminated against the native Americans that they found here.
I agree that many minority groups are discriminated in education. Not only Hispanics who want to go to law school are discriminated. There are also many African Americans and young women’s who have been discriminated in other education paths. A family friend who came from El Salvador had big goals for the future; he wanted to be a psychologist. That family friend was outstanding student in high school with a GPA of 4.6. That friend name Tony, had a friend who also wanted to be a psychologist but Tony was a better student than his friend was. When time came for college application, Tony and his friend both apply for NC State, UNC and ECU. Not surprisingly Tony’s white friend got accepted to all 3 colleges but Tony only got accepted to ECU.

In the last decade, the corporate ethic policy has evolved from a relaxed series of documents into a sequence of ironclad forms that define a defense from the actions of the generation at hand. Though I have not witnessed violation of company ethics by leadership, as a long term member of the management within a company, I have witnessed firsthand the ever-changing importance of having a policy for every employee as it relates to ethics within the workplace. Human Resource advisors have had to adjust to the needs for new discrimination protection; alongside the outline of a social media policy as it relates to standard forms of communication. With the explosion of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, every company instantly had to define what an acceptable action was, along with when communication through these mediums was acceptable. In the end, I view the management and definition of social media policy as the most important aspect of every corporation moving forward.
“In 2006 to 2007, according to the data compiled by the Institute of International Education, 582,984 students from all over the world were enrolled in American colleges and universities in a wide range of fields” (Carter, Paragraph 2, 2008). The United States has the highest number of students who are coming to study abroad than any other countries. Each year, the number of international students coming to the United States to obtain degrees is increasing by thousands, and home countries of these students are primarily India, China and Korea, all located in the whole different continent. But what are the motives of students who are crossing the sea to study? Their goal of studying abroad is to experience diversity and to adapt attitudes
