As a nursing professional, I am familiar with the role of good nutrition, appreciate patients’ desire for wellness, and have taken an active interest in ensuring the best long-term clinical outcomes in MS patients by working to develop strategies to increase compliance and adherence to therapy. In an effort to improve adherence and reduce side effects from therapy when using interferon injections, the research article reviewing nurses’ perspectives on approaches to limit flu-like symptoms during interferon therapy indicated using six strategies (Filipi et al., 2014). These strategies included dose titration, analgesic management, injection timing, interferon formulation, solution temperature, and hydration (Filipi et al., 2014). However,
Hawthorne supports his suggestion by illustrating physician Roger Chillingworth’s arrival in the Puritan colony of Massachusetts Bay through the gullible and enthusiastic perspective of the locals; claiming that Chillingworth’s skilled appearance was “an aspect of mystery, which was easily heightened to the miraculous,” and providence in action. The author’s purpose is to foreshadow how thankful the locals are in their reasoning of Chillingworth’s advent, that they are ,even oblivious to the too perfect timing of Chillingworth’s arrival. The author writes in a serious tone for the upcoming generations to comprehend the historical behavior in Puritan society.
Thesis: Multiple sclerosis brings daily challenges to whomever struggles with it, but with the right team of doctors and medication, it can be maintained.
Administration of medication to a patient is an interdisciplinary concern. When dealing with medication, nurses are held with as much accountability as other members within the medical team. To uphold this standard, it is important for nurses to stay informed with new research to help provide better care to their patients. The nursing community also adheres to the “nursing process,” a guide that nurses utilize to achieve well-rounded care. Nurses can relate the nursing process not only to their plan of care, but also to different subjects to systematically analyze information. Applying the nursing process to this research created a connection that allows awareness of the
The sample sizes would be large, in order to represent the large population of individuals in the United States that are affected by MS. The controls would be used as a comparison as well as to ensure no bias in data collection. The criteria for choosing MS patients would be individuals ranging from 20 to 60 years of age, having sufficient documentation of being diagnosed with MS, and having no documentation or suspicion of having any other inflammatory disease of the CNS. The criteria for choosing the control samples would be individuals ranging from 20 to 60 years of age, having no documentation of or suspicion of having any inflammatory diseases of the CNS, and having no documentation of or suspicion of having infections of the GI tract within the last 10 years. The age restraint was chosen based on the fact that development of MS begins between 20 to 40 years of age.
Even though the main issue after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis is the fact that there is no cure to this medical condition that will not stop the work of scientists in finding a cure to it. Any individual living with MS should not be subjected to living with this medical condition for the rest of the life, if a cure is developed. At this moment, that may be the case for some with this medical condition, but it should not lead them down a path by feeling hopeless for having MS. It is not an individual’s choice or plan to have MS or any other medical condition. An individual with MS should not make themselves inferior to this medical condition. As long as there are treatments, rehabilitation, support, and one’s own encouragement, they can continue to battle this condition. The work for a cure for MS is not decreasing; it is advancing with the knowledge and technology of those fighting to end MS as a disease.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a common neurological disorder and the most common non-traumatic causes of disability in young adults (WHO, 2008). MS is a debilitating disease of the central nervous system affecting 400,000 Americans, reaching 2.5 million individuals globally, with 200 new cases diagnosed every week. (Tullman, 2013). The prevalence of MS is third highest in the Americas, with the greatest number of afflicted individuals in Europe (WHO, 2008). The WHO also suggests that MS rates increase in countries with high income compared with their low income counterparts (2008). Worldwide, the mean age of disease onset is 29.2 years, with 2 women affected for every 1 man (WHO, 2008). Clinical presentation of MS usually begins with muscle
Multiple Sclerosis, one of the most complex diseases ever described, impacts over 2.3 million people worldwide. All ages are affected, especially women and young adults. While MS is uncommonly inherited, it can be carried in specific gene variants. In all of its forms, MS attacks both the nervous and immune systems. Researchers haven’t been able to pinpoint exactly where the disease begins, but many believe that immune cells are sent to the nervous system where they destroy myelin. That myelin, which protects axons, is essential for sending nervous signals; when we can’t send nerve signals, our bodies are unable to detect pain, and additionally lose the ability to feel, in targeted areas. Initially, a MS victim will have trouble with everyday activities like walking, running, and vision issues, and might also experience numbness or tingling sensations in their fingers. Over time, faulty connections become more and more damaged, progressing the disease. Primary progressive MS, the most severe form, has the quickest decline in health. There are therapies and treatments available to
MS is quite a complex disease and scientists are still not completely sure about what may cause MS. Many believe that it may be due to many different contributing factors. To ensure that we one day get an answer to this question studies are being conducted in the areas of immunology(the body’s immune system), epidemiology(the study of patterns of disease in the population), genetics, and possible infectious agents that may have a role to play. Understanding what causes MS will help to
The Center for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices determined risk of infection, risks of serious illness, and risk of spreading the infection as the overriding reasons or identifying candidates for vaccination. As an asthma patient, Alison falls under the group of serious illness; therefore, she should be considered for the flu vaccine even though she doesn’t meet the criteria set forth by the Santa Clara County. As a health care manager, my goal will be set at vaccinating the greatest number of people with the limited resources, so, the first come, first serve approach invoked by the local clinic Alison attended undermined the policy proposed by the CDC. The very sick, children and elderly will not benefit from
To help keep the symptoms of MS down to a minimum Kathy has been prescribed a drug called abonex. In order to administer abonex, Kathy has to give herself a shot once a week. The side
Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a very common disease that affects more women than men; at a minimum two to three times relevant in women (Harbo, 2013). Sadly, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, since 1975, there has not been a successful national study of the prevalence in the United States. In order to improve reporting MS, the National MS Society established a method of testing administrative databases. In turn, the Society reported that MS organization have estimated 2.3 million individuals are living with MS worldwide. Is it the most common disabling neurological disease affecting young adults (Courtney, 2009). The greatest number of people who are identified with the disease are between the ages of 20 to 50, even though it can still be found in younger children and notable older adults. I personally find this statistic to be alarming. I am at risk for developing this disease since I am in my mid-20s. It is important that I understand and am aware of the disease because the actual cause of the disease in still a mystery. The environment and our genes could play a role in contributing to the disease.
Inflammation is caused after the immune system activities and this causes/triggers some MS symptoms in patients. A few researchers suggest that medication intake can eventually slow down the progression and development of multiple sclerosis by control the immune system while other treatment methods aim specific cells found in the immune system and stop those particular cells from targeting the myelin sheath. But the drugs provided expose patients to infection by making their immune system weak and keeping them constantly at
Another great influence on Education was the Greek philosopher and scientist Aristotle who came later after Confucius, who was born in Stagira, Chalcidice. Aristotle was first a student in Plato’s philosophy school for around twenty years. Later on he was a philosophy teacher in Atarneus which is located in Asia Minor. Aristotle is known for his school named “Lyceum” which is located in Athens, and he is also known for teaching Alexander the Great who can later. According to Curren from his writings about “Aristotle on the Necessity of Public Education” and Burnet from his writings about “Aristotle on Education: Being Extracts From the Ethics and Politics found in the Encyclopedia , Aristotle deceased from the existing idea of childhood in Greek antiquity at that time, just like his teacher Plato. That philosophy was about children being educated as small adults, and so they were taught with adult literature considering their minds as able to absorb and task like those of the adults. According to Aristotle, the goal of education is to struggle to achieve the greatest goodness and happiness being a member in a city. Most of his philosophy about educating children could be found in the Nicomachean Ethics and Politics; and here he relates to politics as he considers human beings naturally to be political. That is in the social sense, as no one could become happy outside of a community. A person become an individual when he/she becomes an active

A literature review was conducted to develop an online questionnaire addressing the aim of this study. To be eligible for the study, the participants had to be 18 years of age, have MS and be living in
