Throughout the books America learns who and what she values in her life. The author uses techniques such as Inner thinking to build suspense, support the theme, and show characters motivation.
The Author uses a lot of inner thinking in the book The One for many reasons one being to build
The book contains a series of breakdowns of thoughts, outlooks, and emotional schemes. There are numerous exercises that help one to come to terms with issues relating to the various chapters the book contains. Some are more specific than others and require serious dedication to exercises, such as writing letters to your inner child, some are different tasks than others such as clearing your mind and imagining good in a specific person. As I

In the book, The One by Kiera Cass, the main character, America, changes throughout the story due to the choices that she has to make between the guy who she has known her whole life or the prince she meets while joining the selection.
Hard headed 17 year old, America singer is the main character in the book “The Selection” by Kiera Cass. Throughout the book you discover all different kinds of traits that she has and how much she uses them.
Gary Paulsen did avery good job with the techniques because he knew how to combine them with the rest of the story .He wanted to put a little of everything ina single story to be able to form a great project he put a lot of inspiration in his book as he came to make a great project and could inspire many people wich may mean that Gary achived his goal by making his story a
Imagine yourself being in a situation where you must choose between living in poverty with your childhood love, or living a royal life with someone who life is planned out for them. When unpredictable, 17 year old, America Singer, was faced with this impossible decision, her true personality shined. Because of America’s bold, unique, and witty personality, she finds herself constantly sticking out from other girls in the book. Any character in “The Selection” series can’t compare to characters in other books because they all break the stereotypes. In “The One”, by Kiera Cass, America Singer unveils her audacious, recalcitrant, and rambunctious personality as she faced a decision of love between two completely opposite types of men.
“35 girls. 1 crown. The competition of a lifetime” (Cass). Kiera Cass’ The Selection tells us the story of America Singer and how she falls in love with both Aspen Leger and Prince Maxon. The Selection is a contest to find Prince Maxon a wife, and 35 girls get the amazing opportunity to try and win his heart. For most girls this is a dream come true, but for America this is her dreaded nightmare. This is a good series to read because it has a connection to Ancient Japan’s feudal system and its message that relationships are complex.
A quote in the selection that shows how America is wanting to leave is, “There was no freedom in this. The bars of my balcony caged me in and I could still see the walls around the palace high with guards atop the points. I needed to be outside the palace” (Cass 117). America feels like the castle is a cage and it isn't like her home. She wants to leave and get out of the palace. The difficult decision she had to make is if she wants to be committed to her family and stay or get out of the cage and go home. Another quote that shows that America needs to be committed and try to become princess is, “‘I need to be here. My family needed me to be here. Even if you could let me stay a week that would be a blessing for them’. “ You mean you need the money?’”( Cass 129). America needs to be at the palace to help her family financially but she doesn't want to be in the ‘cage’ for long. So, America doesn't want to be princess but she still has to be committed to the selection so she can help her family stay on their feet. In the beginning of the book America hates the thought of going into the selection even if it did help her family she just wanted to be happy with Aspen, but at the end of the book she is continuing in the selection not only to be happy with someone but to help her family say financially
One of the most exciting parts of the book is when the main character America gets the letter that lets her know she became an aunt (Cass 5). America is in the Great Room (a room where all the selected hang out or get a lesson from their instructor) with all the other selected (Selected- Girls who are brought to the palace, taught the etiquette of a princess/queen, and then Prince Maxon chooses one to marry based on their lessons and how much he loves them) when bricks fly through the window thrown by the rebels (Cass 1). All the selected run to one of the hidden safe rooms to hide from the rebels then a
America Singer is 17 when the opportunity of a lifetime was sent to her door. Americas mother wants her to enter the selection to compete for the heart of Prince Maxon. But America doesn’t want to leave her secret love Aspen who, and compete for a boy she doesn’t even want. When America first meets Prince Maxon, she just wants to be friends. But as the competition moves along she realizes the feelings
The book was quite an interesting concept in retrospect but in action it was rather uninteresting and boring. This seems to be a book that was written in a very different environment to our own and now only serves as a book study in high schools.
There were also concepts in this book that I hadn’t thought about such as “the conscious mind erects against symbols and metaphors.” The subconscious is “more comfortable to metaphors.” In relation to this topic, the book talks about analyzing one object and then connect it to another object. Another concept that I liked and agree is “It takes creative effort to produce creative results.” Hanks points out that. The concept of need is one key to getting good ideas was interesting. I never thought how our needs can motivate us to create but now that I thought about it, it makes sense. Without need, we would not be as motivate to create. The necessity gives us a purpose to create. In the book, the authors did point out that we shouldn’t be narrowed to one idea and getting close to our ideas. I also learned that in order to avoid having your idea stolen, it’s best to not tell anyone your idea unless it is someone who you know you can trust. I learned that there are three ways to protect my ideas which are patents, copyrights, and trademarks. I never knew how much process there is to protecting your
Throughout the book, the prose is very pensive as to make one think about what society is ideal, or which type of government would work best in a certain situation.
In our world constantly changing and the growth of the population living a victorious life in a world that offers few opportunities, it’s difficult because negativity can affect us on how we behave and how we pursue life.
