Oh Crap! Yes, that is what we are discussing today. Have you ever had white flecks in your poop? Have you ever heard of rice water stool? Have you ever pooped so much that you could feed the whole population of poop eating bacteria. If so, then you have probably had or heard of cholera. Cholera is a bacteria that affects the small intestine. It is most common in third world countries due to lack of clean drinking water. Cholera (also known as Vibrio Cholerae) spread across the world from its original reservoir in the Ganges Delta in India during the 19th century. Six following pandemics killed millions of people across all of the continents. Cholera comes from contaminated sources of water. You can get cholera from unclean produce washed in unclean water, food vendors, and fish or seafood . The most common places for cholera, are third world countries due to corrupt governments they are not able to afford clean water systems. This is a problem because there are an estimated 3.4 million cases and 100,000 annual deaths per year. This is because Africa, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic are among the most common places for the bacteria. This is because they are all near unclean warm sources of water. Most cases (around 75%) of cholera go undetected with little to no symptoms. If you do develop symptoms they could include nausea , vomiting, diarrhea, …show more content…
We should be sure to clean all foods properly. We need to be sure that they are cooked and prepared to correct standards. There are several little things that we can do to prevent, and ultimately get rid of, cholera. Cholera has killed several people and those numbers are only increasing. We have tried to stop it with antibiotics and other medications but we are not doing enough. We need to help those who are in areas where the disease is highly common by getting them clean
Cholera is a serious infection that can be fatal. The bacterium is disseminated by the so-called fecal-oral rout as a consequence of sewage and fecal contamination of water supplies and foodstuffs (Cholera). Lasting from 1881 until 1896, the Fifth Pandemic was the time that Robert Koch isolated and identified the causative microbe for Cholera. Cholera is endemic to India, Bangladesh, and regions of South America, Africa, Australia and Gulf coast of the Unites States. There has been seven pandemics since 1817. The first six started in Indian subcontinent and were caused by Classical strains. The last one started in Indonesia and was caused by El Tor

Cholera most likely originated in India as many as 1,000 years ago. The earliest documentation of recorded symptoms is from a medical report written in 1563. Later, the first cholera pandemic initiated in 1817 when the bacterium spread from India to Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Russia, the East African coast and the Middle East and lasted until 1823. Modernization eventually increased the extent of the illness through providing means by which the bacteria could spread. On its own, Cholera would have remained separated from the rest of the world by miles of land and sea, but technological innovations connected the continents, and it did not take long for the bacteria to infect the precise human beings who would provide them safe travel. In 1826, unknowing merchants inadvertently carried the disease over trade
| It is caused by a bacteria called shigella bacteria The bacteria are found in faeces and are spread through poor hygiene; for example, by not washing your hands after having diarrhoea
Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the ingestion of gluten damages the lining of the small intestine and thus leads to a wide range of symptoms and health issues. However, it is often confused with gluten intolerance or misrepresented as a dietary restriction. Consequently, most people assume cutting off pasta and baked goods from one’s diet for a limited period of time is enough to cure it. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of the true definition of celiac disease and to familiarize people with the seriousness of this illness. This blog is my platform to share my story with this medical condition. My aim is to highlight the fact that having celiac is a lifelong journey that goes far beyond bread and cookies. My ultimate goal is to reveal the impact of the disease on one’s lifestyle and to uncover the concealed and invisible aspects of being celiac.

Cholera remains a drastically severe disease, killing hundreds of people each outbreak. When ingested, it attaches to the mucosal lining of the intestines and disrupts the normal flow of ions so that there is more sodium, chloride, and water in the intestinal lumen than normal and results in massive diarrhea. Cholera has made a global impact and been endemic in almost all parts of the world. Cholera control strongly emphasizes sanitation, clean drinking water, isolation, and careful food preparation. Two ways our body works against cholera as a self-limiting disease are sloughing cells and the secretory immunoglobulin (sIgA) antibody produced by mucus throughout our body. There are
Water-borne diseases are caused by the ingestion of water contaminated by pathogenic bacteria, viruses, or parasites. These pathogens are spread through the feces or urine of an infected individual (africaneeds). The most common diseases are cholera, guinea worm and typhoid. People can easily contract these diseases if there is no system of sewage collection and treatment. In fact, almost 2.5 billion people worldwide do not have access to adequate sanitation (UN water). Climate change can also impact the water crisis in Africa. Water is necessary for survival, and when areas get
Another big waterborne disease that spreads around Indonesia is hepatitis A. This disease is caused from the contamination of water and food. The symptoms are : a high fever and yellowing of the skin or yellowing of the whites of eyes.
We see also the work John Snow (physician) who discovered the polluted public water Well as a source of outbreak disease such as cholera in the poor areas in London. This was the starting point of epidemiology
Cholera is an intestinal infection that can claim its victim’s life within hours if not treated promptly. It is caused by eating or drinking something that is contaminated with
Between the 1830’s to 1860’s, cholera spread into the United States from India by trade routes. Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by drinking or eating material that is infected with Vibrio cholerae. Cholera causes watery diarrhoea, but can show days later or never show
1. The Europeans poured have poured something into the water which sterilized the water and killed the toxins that become disruptive in the digestive system when they are consumed. They Europeans may have poured what are called oral rehydration salts into the well, which quickly works are combatting the cholera, and will prevent further outbreaks from occurring.
The disease, cholera, is an infection of the intestines, caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. As stated in Microbes and Infections of the Gut, the bacterium is “a Gram-negative, comma- shaped, highly motile organism with a single terminal flagellum” (105). Cholera is characterized by the most significant symptom that presents with the disease, diarrhea, and victims can lose up to twenty liters of body fluids in a day. Cholera can be a serious disease, due to the serious dehydration that can occur, but it is only fatal if treatment is not administered as soon as possible. This research paper includes information on the causes of cholera, symptoms, ways of treatment, studies of treatments, complications that may occur, the
Some of the most emerging and re-emerging agents of the waterborne diseases are; Cholera which is caused by the ingestion of water that is infected by Vibrio Cholerae. This is a painless form of diarrhea characterized by watery stool. Dysentery which is caused by Escherichia Coli. Typhoid that is caused by Salmonella typhi which is usually accompanied by fever is yet another disease. Gastroenteritis diseases caused by Giardia and Cryptosporodia and some species of hepatitis are also known to be caused by water (CDC, 2011). These disease causing agents find their way into the human body through infected water that people from the poorer communities in Uganda use and have no option of cleaner water.
