Does Protesting Really Work? By dictionary definition, to protest is to make a statement or action expressing disapproval of or objection to something. In many cases, protests include aggressive and even violent actions to show people's disapproval to government choices. The article, “Why Street Protests Don’t work,” says that aerial photos of anti-government marches routinely show an intimidating sea of people furiously demanding change. And yet, it is surprising how little these crowds achieve.” The article goes on to prove that for the majority most street protests are not successful. Sometimes these uncivilized acts help solve issues but more often than not, they only create more problems. But, this is not always the case. For example, officials like mayors and town council members have lives outside of government and politics. So, people occasionally will see them in the supermarket or public events. If someone were to come across these officials and fiercely complain or try to tell them what needs to be done, this will most likely imply them to do the complete opposite! This commonly happens with large protests just on a much higher ranked scale. There have been thousands of large protests take place around the world. But only few have lead to the suggested change or action. This is because, in many cases, there is a silent majority. Although it may seem like over half the country is out marching holding signs, there is always more to the story. In countries like the United States, most laws are voted on.
