Inequality In High School

In my junior year of high school, I decided that I wanted to plan a college and career day. Over the years, equity in education has become a very important topic to me. When I have ventured out into schools with higher funding then my school, the difference in available resources is very obvious. I believe that every child is entitled to the same resources no matter what their background is. Consequently, over a Christmas break me and a friend started planning the fair. We invited three colleges, and ten different speakers who each had a different career. While the fair was rather small, I think that day everyone took something valuable from it. No student at my school had organized an event like this on their own. My class saw that day that even teenagers are capable of creating the change they want to see around them. After that day I saw more people advocating for themselves and having dialogue with our school's administration.

In the modern world, education is the crucial key to the economic success. It can help a poor country become a developed country, or make a developed country become a more advanced one. A successful education system is a system, which makes sure that every student can have access to knowledge equally. Although the United States is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, there seem to be many inequalities in the American education system. In this essay, the education inequalities will be classified into four areas: race, economic background, gender, and standardized educational testing.

I have a profound interest in educational policy research. Last year, I wrote a detailed academic research paper about modern American school segregation, the current achievement gap, and the effects of these unequal systems. Using my research paper and the educational policy I analyzed, I also created a documentary about the topic. It was a finalist at Maryland’s History Day, and won first place at Regional History Day. From this eight-month process, I gained a variety of understanding and opinions about American school inequality that I hold today. Although equality is an integral part the Constitution, it is not readily upheld. Specifically, education is a fundamental right which is far too often neglected, and therefore, a leading cause of poverty and inequality in the world today. The ACLU says, “The Constitution requires that all kids be given equal educational opportunity no matter what their race, ethnic background, religion, or sex, or whether they are rich or poor, citizen or noncitizen” (“Your Right). Equity in education throughout the United States is a problem majority of high schools have to deal with. With education, comes conflict in which only a few solutions can fix what the problem. School resources is one of the main problems when it comes to equity in education from the lack of teaching from the teachers, to the facilities where the students are taught in, or the safety for the students; in solution, the government can provide more funds to these schools, and have well-off school schools, donate money or resources.

The socioeconomic makeup of the student in my building is predominantly Caucasian. The next ethnicity most predominant is African American followed by a small population of Marshall Island students. Most of my students are poverty stricken. My school was 98% free and reduced lunch and next year we will be 100% free and reduced lunch and breakfast.

Stories about how our nation’s educational system has declined have been commonplace for over a generation. Recently, the International Mathematics and Science Study and the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study reported our fourth and eighth grade students trail their contemporaries in Asia and many European nations in math and science.

inequality in public schools is a huge problem, if you are someone of renown in the community, a wealthy family or athlete you get better attention than regular or poor kids. Even talented artists or musicians are not treated as well in public education. That doesn’t get community dollars like football games do. People can change this by showing up at schools meetings, having there voices heard, stricter restrictions on teachers to pay attention to those falling behind instead of those who are progressing. those progressing need to phase up to another teacher. change the format of schools from grades to phases to encourage progress at every level without limitation. Although college may be an aspiration for many people, others may face trepidations about negotiating the requirements of higher education. However, accessibility of the course advisors coupled with useful reading material proved indispensable for a strong beginning. Furthermore, learning to navigate the online courses was not difficult; nevertheless, overcoming browser compatibility issues required more proficiency than expected. For most students fresh out of high school, college provides a fresh new experience free of the restrictions present while living under your parents roof. Life on a college campus provides not only the means to develop intellectual skills that are necessary to join the workforce but also the means to become a fully functioning independent member of society. Many social traditions are common on all college campuses and one that often gets explored is sexual culture and the exploration of such. Sadly what seems to be becoming a trend in most schools, from the most scholarly and prestigious universities like Harvard, to community colleges is a trend of rape and sexual abuse of men on women. Campus rape is the rape of a student attending an institute of higher learning such as a college or university. This term puts emphasis on the campus where these institutions are, but are not necessarily confined to those boundaries. College campuses host a large concentration of women that have a much higher risk of rape or other sexual assault that women in the general population or in a comparable age group. During the past two decades a concern for the victimization of college women has been escalated, and this is mostly due to the fact that the concern for victimized women has grown in general; victimization that previously received little to no attention is finally being recognized. Furthermore, my research in education inequality will encompass not only supreme court rulings such as "Separate but Equal" it will also include other supreme court rulings such as the 1954's court ruling "Brown vs Topeka," declaring segregation unconstitutional, Jim Crow laws and even two-year college purpose or impact on segregation will also be studied. Concepts whit a hidden meaning will be under my research. For example, "differentiation" or "tracking" those concepts used in the public education jargon only perpetuate segregation; those concepts mean nothing but segregation. Furthermore, I will include educational reforms such as 2001, "No Child Left Behind," and I will make research on theories which are not educational theories but it could be helpful to understand and advocate for education inequality such as "Neoclassic Human Capital theory," and "Social Capital."

Does men and women get the same protection under statutory rape laws? Based on the findings, I can say that there may have something wrong with criminal justice system itself. This might depend on the age of the person who was involved. For instance, I watched the movie “the boy next door” that the teacher got into relationship with a student. I am not going to go in deep about the movie, but the boy actually was old enough to the fact that himself was in love with that teacher. I believe though that no matter what age or gender, there should not be any sexual relationship between the teacher and the student she teaches. A significant barrier for improved wages and social mobility for the lower class, is the lack of easy access to a high-quality education, a mandatory pre-requisite for many of the most lucrative careers. Perhaps the most obvious barrier to entry is the excessively high cost of college tuition, a factor that most wealthy children never have to consider.
