Napoleon and Squealer Take the Farm
Inequality is when one takes advantage of another, and thinks of their self as better than another. Social class is important to a society because for a good society, you need a leader to help make big decisions and keep people on their feet. On the other hand, people at the top of the social class can become unequal to people of their community and do things only for themselves, rather than the other members. It was this way with Joseph Stalin and the Russians during the Russian Revolution, also how the pigs were with the other animals in the book. In animal farm, George Orwell illustrates the idea of how unequal leaders can get when they go unchecked by their citizens.

“The animals decided unanimously to create a military decoration, ‘Animal Hero, First Class,’ which was conferred there and then on Snowball and Boxer (44).” This is shows that Snowball and Boxer are more important to the farm. This is a form of showing value to one another. If you have a decoration you are considered more valuable than the ones without. It is also inequal for the other animals that actually did the work in the farm, rather than the pigs that just watch the other animals work. If the pigs gave all of the other animals prizes, then maybe the other animals would like to listen to them more, and wouldn’t need speeches so often to get convinced that the pigs are doing right. Its not fair to the other animals that the pigs are getting special treatment because they think they are better than the others. Going along with this, on page 134, the pigs state how some animals are more equal than others. By some animals, they mean themselves. When Jones ran the farm, all animals were equal and there was no social class between the animals, just humans and animals. Now that the pigs are in charge, they want to nonchalantly state that they have more privileges than them, so they said some are more equal. The pigs are more unequal to the animals then Jones
Imagine a world where every person is equal: everyone has the same possessions, everyone shows respect to each other, no one kills anyone else, and no authority rises over others to give dictating commands. It sounds wonderful doesn’t it? George Orwell’s haunting book Animal Farm shows however, the near impossibility it is to make that idea a reality. In this fairy tale, a group of oppressed farm animals revolt against the tyrannical bonds of their evil master Farmer Jones, chases him off the farm, and attempt to make a society based on the idea listed above. But instead of having this incredible society, the pigs decide to make one instead where they are the ultimate authority. This book highlights the dangers of trying to establish an
Many societies strive to make every person as equal as possible to the next, believing that this makes everything fair for everyone. In all truth though, society cannot function in this way; no matter what, there will always be someone or some group that has more power than everyone else. Equality should only concern the important issues, such as equal rights for all races and each gender. Both the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell and the short story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. are the quintessence of inequality and prove this point; all equal societies do not work. There are many similarities the book Animal Farm shares with the short story “Harrison Bergeron”, one
Most people want to be equal, in order for this to happen, people need to have equivalent rights and opportunities. When someone tries to manage a society, they often need some form of equality to keep everything in order. In the allegorical novella, Animal Farm, George Orwell shows that equality is essential for a society to thrive. He shows this through life being better when the power is balanced between Napoleon and Snowball, how the life of the animals becomes harder when the pigs have more power, and when Napoleon has all the power, life becomes just as poor as when the humans were in control.
I have decided to explore the theme of how ‘Fear is a powerful motivator’. Different leaders and influential people have various ways of using fear to motivate people. Two of my texts: ‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell, and ‘The Rise of Evil” directed by Christian Duguay, both show how totalitarian leaders used violence to motivate the public. The other texts: ‘Bowling for Columbine’ directed by Michael Moore, and ‘Who’s for the Game’ by Jesse Pope, both show how two different influential people motivated the public without using violence, instead creating fear using words.
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs are in control. Napoleon became the official leader after Snowball was chased out by the dogs. Squealer, Napoleon’s sidekick, now has social control over the farm animals. Squealer uses language to confuse and persuade the animals into thinking the commandments did not change, humans are allies and not enemies, and that some animals are more equal than others.
"All oppression creates a state of war" -Simone de Beauvar, French Philosopher. Animal Farm by George Orwell is an allegory for the Russian Revolution. Each animal was a key character in the Revolution such as Napoleon being Joseph Stalin, Mr. Jones being Tsar Nicholas and Boxer, being an ignorant. Mr.Jones was run off the farm because the animals were tired of the drunken man mistreating them. What the animals didn't know was that they went from one dictator to a whole group of them. The pigs. Ignorance contributes to political and social oppression and is proved by the inability to comprehend what the pigs are doing to the other animals. The animals cannot read or write as well, are perplexed easily, couldn't see the blemishes in the pig's leadership, or how the pigs changed things and didn't see or completely ignored how the pigs had acted.
In the allegorical and dystopian novella, “Animal Farm” written by George Orwell has opened up our knowledge and perspective on events leading up to the Russian Revolution in a deeper meaning. The overall perspective that the story is told around is a far,. Within this farm are animals who rank higher than others based on their so called “qualities.” This book was able to teach us new meanings about the government and how it works in somewhat modern society. Due to this knew knowledge we were able to understand leading events as well as follow along with how things would go about in a whole new perspective. We followed along to find how “Government” would apply to an animal living on a farm.
Most people never ponder the fact that animals are actually considered to be slaves. People are not the only ones who are notorious for being slaves. Animals are controlled and manipulated into doing things against their will the same way slaves were while under the rule of the American colonists before, during, and after the American Revolution. In the book Animal Farm, by George Orwell, the animals, who are personified as a human population, are treated like human slaves, manipulated, and controlled by a tyrant, authoritarian leader, like those of the American Revolution.
What is power? Power means the strength and the right given of controlling anyone else. However, when too much power is given to someone, dictatorship cannot be avoided. In the book “Animal Farm”, George Orwell used a lot of events happened on the farm to illustrate that how did the ‘animalism’ turn into “totalitarianism” and well defined the sentence “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”, which also reflects how the society was like at that time. Therefore, in order to find out the reason why George Orwell wrote the story, this essay will talk about how power is abused and the effect on other "comrades" by using several events and the examples of language features used in the story.
Throughout history, there are endless examples of people who became leaders and let the power they gained corrupt them. Some started as kind and generous humans and then turned to selfish, greedy dictators. One example of the corruption that comes with power can be seen in the events of the Russian Revolution which led to the death and destruction of a plethora of Russians under the communist rulers who let power corrupt them. George Orwell uses his novel Animal Farm as an allegory for readers to have insight into the corruption that power can bring. Power corrupts those who possess it because it makes them selfish, it makes them lie and be dishonest to serve their own agendas, and it leads them to compromise their morals.
noticed that the pigs are treating themselves better than they treat others, just like the richer humans treat the poorer ones. For example, young pigs now wear green ribbons on their tails on Sundays, and all animals must stand aside if a pig is walking on the same path. Furthermore, they're discouraged from playing with other animals, and Napoleon has ordered us to build them a schoolhouse. Not only is there inequality within young animals, but only pigs can have beer, vote, and eat special meals. They even reserved the entire barely field for themselves. You never see them doing any labor, but they swear that they work more than we do by filling papers with writing, then burning them.
Often times in a communist society, a leader’s use of language can lead to abuse of power. In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the farm leaders, the pigs, use unknown language, invoke scare tactics, and create specific laws, thereby enabling them to control other animals, to suit their greedy desires, and to perform actions outside their realm of power. Because of the pigs’ use of broad language, implementation of scare tactics, and creation and manipulation of laws, they are able to get away with avoiding laws and convincing other animals into believing untrue stories and lies that are beneficial to the pigs.
In the book the animals are told that ¨All Animals are equal¨ when come to find out they really aren't. A way that we as the reader know that this is true is that the pigs are doing things against the commandments. As they do these illegal
At this point in time, Snowball is the animal representation of Troskey, considering that he is the more calm one at of the two when creating propositions for the betterment of the newly founded animal community. Both Napoleon and Snowball can never agree with each other on similar ideals, leading to Napoleon to use underhanded tactics to take the upper hand and make his ideals become true. He does this by using grown and buff dogs which he raised as abandoned puppies from a deceased dog that had died during the rebellion, a clear representation of the Komitet gosudarstvennoy bezopasnosti (KGB; was a security agency for the Soviet Union), through the use of brute forces Napoleon is able exile Snowball; which is a clear representation of Joseph Stalin taking power in the Soviet Union by getting rid of Troskey. Originally Old Major’s social utopia for animals involved having to no longer put up with human tyranny but from the very moment Snowball is kicked out from Animal Farm, everything went downhill for the every animal except the pigs. With Snowball’s leadership there was equality present at the very beginning after the rebellion, with
Animal farm by George Orwell introduces real life problems using animals on a farm. The narrator focuses on leaders. This novel talks about a group of animals that overrule a farm owned by a man named Mr .Jones, but the animals face many corrupt rules, freedom rights, enemies, and arguments between one another. The farm becomes overruled by a pig named Napoleon, and the animals are afraid to go against him. Napoleon soon acts like Mr.Jones and the animals freedom is getting taken away from their hands. The novel's main message was to believe those are seeking the truth- doubt those who find it. The novel relates to the theme because between all of the animals, their was many that were not being true to each other and the main character of the story was trying to lure the animals in a plan once he found out he could takeover the farm, just like how it was in the beginning when Mr. Jones owned the farm.
