In my Aboriginal and Indigenous week, I went to Aramac for Indigenous Cardiac Outreach program (ICOP). I work with the cardiac team from Brisbane, which consist of cardiologists, cardiographer, and electrocardiographer. I did mainly an ECG in female patients and my second patient for that day is an elderly aboriginal female who came in with another female nurse. I did the ECG on the patient and print out her ECG, and then I went outside of the room to show the results to the electrocardiographer. Without me realizing it, I left the room door open while the patient was still lying on the bed and have no tops on her. The nurse told at me to close the door in an angry tone, which really makes me scared. I felt really bad at that time and quickly
Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officers (AHLOS) perform an important role of providing liaison services to the Aboriginal patients. They provide emotional and cultural support to the patients and their families and help them in getting access to the hospital services. They also perform the tasks of liaison and advocacy.

My current research Project focuses on improving physical, social, and psychological health among the indigenous Australians. With active participation in this project i understand indigenous health issues and the causes of morbidity and mortality in indigenous Australians as compared to other Australians. It is important to consider culturally appropriate assessment and intervention focused on indigenous health and well-being. While doing this project i provided emotional support and encourage them to achieve better health outcomes. The regular communication with indigenous Australians I understood the barriers they perceive and opportunities available to them.
During my clinical rotation during my last semester of nursing school, I was able to work one on one with a BSN degree nurse named Judy in the ICU. Judy had three years of experience in the ICU setting. She had been a medical surgical nurse prior to her ICU transfer. The ICU at this hospital consisted of two associate degree level nurses and two BSN level nurses on my shift. I rotated three days in this particular ICU. During a late shift on the ward, my mentor asked if I would stay with Mrs Smith whilst she gave out medication in order to ensure she wouldn’t be left on her own and fall. During my first day of clinical, I encountered an issue that I believe is very significant. As a student nurse, our duty for this day was to follow our health care aide around the ward and assist in completing resident care. The resident required assistance in many of her daily tasks. The health care aide asked if I would perform one of those and do perineal care for her. I turned down her offer because I did not feel comfortable with my skill level. The resident had a bowel movement during the night. There was a significant odour in the room that overwhelmed me. So I kindly, asked the nurse if we are supposed to look under the patient to assess for any blood pooling under her. Because of this reminder, the nurse realized she forgotten this step and thanked me. We looked under the patient, and thankfully there was no blood pooled under her. Another example, of having an EVP mind, was when I watched a labor. I noticed that the residents kept putting their fingers in the patient’s vagina. In lecture, we learned that we want to limit the amount of times that we assess the patient’s cervix due to the risk for infection. Because I don’t know about deliveries, and how many times the doctor is supposed to assess the cervix; I didn’t say anything. I also didn’t feel comfortable, as this delivery team, offered for me to watch. I didn’t know these employees or patient from earlier. During my clinical competency placement, I was working on a surgical ward when a registered nurse on duty asked me to assist Mr. A with his shower. This incident happened on the fifth day of my clinical practice. He was a dementia patient and had undergone right knee total joint replacement. She also informed me that the patient did not like too many people in his room because of his dementia. When I went into his room, his wife was there with him. I talked to the patient about having a shower and getting dressed to look smart and he agreed to have a shower. The patient got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom and sat on the shower chair to have his shower. Then I asked his wife if I needs to stay with him to assist with shower, she said she can help him as she was taking care for him at home since he has been diagnosed with dementia. Therefore, I left the patient with his wife to help with his shower and told her to ring the bell if she needs any help. After some time I left the room, the wife rang the bell. As soon as I entered the room, I heard him shouting at his wife and she started crying and left the hospital. So I had to stay with him. He was very capable of washing himself and I just had to help him wash his back as he requested. After he had washed, I asked him if he was ready to get out of the bath, he started shouting at me.
This past Friday at the Cardiac Catheterization Lab my mentor was not there but I still got to do everything that I enjoy doing, like watching procedures and talking to the doctors, nurses, and staff. When I arrived I knew my mentor would not be there so I had asked another one of the ladies in the office if there were any surgeries that were going on for me to watch. After I was given scrubs to change into I was able to go into where the surgeries are happening. I went into the control room that I was told to go and the nurses and other staff were preparing the patient and setting up the computers and everything they needed before the doctor arrived. The surgery overall was one I have seen before and not as exciting as some of the more unique and different ones that I have seen previously.
The case that I have chosen to reflect on was a patient that was already staying on a ward within the hospital, the patient was rushed to the emergency theatre late at night from the ward with a suspected internal bleed, the cause and exact location of the bleed was unknown, the patient presented a complex case for the theatre staff as the patient 's condition was largely unpredictable along with the amount of blood loss that the patient could lose. My role within the theatre team was on the anaesthetic side, I was supported by my mentor who I feel I have learned a vast amount of
