Incarcerated Pregnant Women Why did you choose this particular video?
I chose this video because it is interesting for me what kind of birthing options and practices are available for women in jail. It really surprised me how many women are in jail and what a high percentage of them are mothers or pregnant. I think that women continue to live life even after imprisonment and are going to have babies. Even though they are in jail the babies are born being free members of the society. Any birthing process should ensure safety and wellbeing of mother and a baby and they deserve to get equal help as any other mother and baby. How did the information in this video make you feel? Were you surprised by any of your feelings?

I believe that they should get the same level of care any other women is getting during pregnancy and delivery. I felt very upset with current practices existing in that field. This video definitely made me think about reasons why these women are in jail, how motherhood will affect their future and how their current situation will affect future of their children. I believe that birthing of a child is a dramatic change in every womenś life regardless of the situation they are at. Just the fact of motherhood will give big motivation for change to many of them and we should support and encourage this change in these women. I feel that by treating them as prisoners during birthing process we are doing quite opposite, instead of promoting changes we affirm their current position. I think that pregnancy and birthing should be seein by penitentiary system as a resource for imprisoned women to change their
This video was very surprising, instructive, informative, depressing and occasionally infuriating. I have always known that there were a lot of factors that influence ones health, but I had never really expected it to be this disturbing reality. The video presents a lot of surprising information with any luck individuals will ask themselves serious questions like I did. Optimistically, after seen the video people can account to the things that need to be addressed in order to eliminate this factors and not be eager to judge a set of group of individuals.
Alexandra Tsiaras came up with a phenomenal way of describing conception to birth in his interview he did for Ted Talk. There were several things and little details that I truthfully did not know happened so fast during a woman’s pregnancy. It amazes me how people can go through with abortion after watching a video like Conception to Birth. Alexandra Tsiara’s visuals on conception to birth show a whole new outline of how fast a baby becomes a human, and that makes it that much more precious.
My reaction to this video is about time. After seeing all the previous my faith in

Some of the challenges in the perinatal care in the correctional setting include lack of prenatal care prior to incarceration, drug or alcohol dependency, psychosocial problems or lack of outside family support, victim or transgressor of past abuse or violence and the psychological challenges of being incarcerated. For many women, the reality of being in the prison system can be devastating; the separation from family, which often includes their own children, and friends can cause depression, anxiety and fear. Personal physical safety is also a concern, as prison is often described as having its own “culture”, structure and hierarchy,
Women’s path towards incarceration tends to a totally different path than that of their male counterparts, according to the NIC in a study in 2003. The majority of women who end up in prion have a dependent that they are the primary caregivers of. According to the study conducted by the NIC, “80% of women who enter prison are mothers, nearly 85% of those have custody and 70% of women who enter prison have at least one child under the age of 18,” (Schmalleger, p 454). According to the book Criminal Justice Today, “one out of four women entering prison has either recently given birth or is pregnant,” (Schmalleger, p 455). As of the year 2010 women accounted for 7% of the prisons, both federal and state, population (Schmalleger, p 454). This figure has grown by 3% since the year 1981(Schmalleger, p 454).
Like haveing to literally give birth in actual prison. Now thats real punishment. I would like to also like to know whos idea it was to have her in prison like that. I dont care who you are thats just bad to have someone in prison like ever, you have got to have resepect for women. If it were up to me I would have someone watch over her and just let her live.
In the past thirty years, the incarceration of women has risen exponentially. Poverty, lack of access to education, abuse, addiction, mental health and parenting issues all impact women’s criminality and health before, during and after they are incarcerated (Hannaher, K., 2007). By 2010 there were nearly 206,000 women currently serving time in the criminal justice system. As the years go by, the numbers are constantly increasing (Women Behind Bars, 2015). The number of pregnant women incarcerated has also been on the rise. Most incarcerated women do not receive proper prenatal care before entering the criminal justice system. Because these women are from mostly poverty neighborhoods, they are more likely to endure domestic violence, poor

Great summary! Mothers need to be careful with their babies, as it causes life-long impairments in babies. it is understandable that mothers may be exacted or feel frustrated when tending to their babies. however, it dos not give them the right to abuse them. Recently I watched a video of a father who put in a hidden camera inside of his home because he suspected his wife abusing their 4-month baby. In the video, use can see the mother using excessive force. she drags they baby by the legs, hits the baby and picks the baby up and shape it. Fortunately, the father reported the abuse to the police and she was arrested. it was hard to watch that video. I feel about for all the innocent babies whose caregivers mistreat them. Mothers who are having
Jerilyn, a teenager within the ABC Primetime Video The Lost Children Behind Bars committed a variety of different minor crimes throughout her years ranging from trespassing, disorderly conduct, marijuana use, and habitual truancy (Emsnyc12, 2012). Along with these minor crimes, Jerilyn had also committed a very serious criminal offense of child molestation against her nephew, which led to her being put into the Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections Facility (Emsnyc12, 2012). With that being said, her criminal behavior can very much be attributed to substantial events that occurred within her life at a very young age. At six years old, Jerilyn was molested by her mother’s boyfriend and this lasted for an entire month. (Emsnyc12, 2012). Soon after this molestation occurred, various changes within Jerilyn’s life began to emerge, as one may suspect. She soon began to turn to crime as a way to deal with this terrible life event and began smoking marijuana, using alcohol, and skipping school as well as not coming home for long periods of time (Emsnyc12, 2012). Jerilyn being molested by her mother’s boyfriends had a profound impact on her life and can very much be a leading factor in her committing her own act of child molestation on her nephew, who was six at the time (Emsnyc12, 2012). From a very young age, after the molestation occurred, Jerilyn was emerged into a life of crime, with the final act of child molestation landing her in the Adobe Mountain Juvenile Corrections
What I have found the most thought provoking in this documentary is that innocent children can lose their life or be permanently
Nothing in these videos really shocked me. I think that the videos just added insight to something I already know. Specifically, the Generation Rx video that involved actual addicts talking about what they went through. I was surprised how they talked about prescription drugs. I’ve always thought that prescription drugs were just as bad if not worse than drugs that aren’t prescribed to you. People have a tendency to think that because a doctor prescribed this to other people they can take the same drugs and be fine. That is not the case at all, which is why I think prescription drugs are so
I really liked this video because it made me put my iman to the test and helped me see if I was one of the hypocrites described. This khutbah reminded me of many other videos I watched about the believer’s iman and heart.
