If you read his week’s lesson you had to laugh as you read the descriptions given of the status of most American churches. To be a successful church the author states that the church should function and relate to the people’s culture that the church is located within. So obviously one established standard for every community will not be attractive in every different cultural grouping. If a church is not serving its indvual communities preferences it will not experience growth. Many times an establish church establishes its preferences upon the memberships traditions. I thought the author was talking about Red Star when they spoke about what the first question a consultant would ask church leadership when reviewing them about the standards of …show more content…
Was Red Star not considered the prominent church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in the fifties? In what era did Red Star have its largest membership? The corner stone on the front of this church indicates the principal building of Red Star was laid in the fifties? A very large part of our church leadership and established membership were adults that have supported this church since the fifties. From my own personal history concerning this church I have heard my Mother speak about the huge numbers of people that attended this church when it had its peak attendance. The consultant spoke of visiting churches like ours and found that people many times didn’t want change because “that’s the way we have always done it”! It does seem to make sense when someone says “why change look how successful we have been in the past. I am as guilty as everyone else when I think why change ‘this is the way we like it’; ‘isn’t it our church’? Then the author of the lesson throws a monkey wrench into the works by quoting John 20:21. John 20:21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending
One of the members who assisted the church said that 20 or so members live with the pastor and his wife, and some of those members
“We are a church transformed by grace, connected through relationships and committed to service” is their mission statement and as is everything down in Texas, they are big! They have a large campus with several buildings surrounding the main sanctuary and a visitors center that can be accessed with one of their many golf carts. I must say, as someone who works with youth, I was impressed as to their commitment to a separate building for kids, especially those in middle school and high school. At a time when autonomy is so important for a young person, (and budgets are limited), having their own space is quite impressive.
I am concerned. I always want our church to be current when it comes to assessments. So, please allow me to ask a few questions that might help me understand.
It is not uncommon to hear one ask, “How large is your congregation?” Dr. Robertson said “A large congregation size in Philadelphia may not be large in a city like Atlanta where more African Americans tend to fellowship. Church sizes fluctuate and this is not a new phenomenon. Gallop Studies have shown more people go to church in times of war than in times of peace and more than 40% of Americans claim to attend church or synagogue regularly.
Talking of the number of the “unchurched” people in Northern America alone, there has been an increase of compared to the 15 percent increase in the general population. Large churches which used to be filled with multitudes of followers in the 1950s currently have a small fraction of their initial capacity.
The author discovered four major factors that church growth in the North American Division tremendously. First factor is empowering servant leadership. In this section, the leaders work hard and they are willing to make sacrifice in the purpose to see a growing church. The second one is passionate and authentic spirituality they believe that it is spirituality that is the source of passion of passion and power behind their effectiveness. The third point is about how their members are committed to get involved in different activity. Some churches they not growing because they expect their pastors to do all the duties of the church. The fourth factor about a growing church is God exalting worship. Worship is one of key factor for church growth.
Rochelle Vann, I generally agree with your assessment of how many churches have “commercialized” their worship services in an attempt to fill the pews. I wonder how much of this is simply due to the fact that the church – in many places - has conformed to the culture rather than the church impacting the culture? Pettit (2008) says that “Since salvation is holistic, one possibly obvious implication of the spiritual formation process is that the believer's life should ultimately affect the culture” (p. 48).
The three of us arrived at the church about 30 minutes before the service started. I noticed as I waited for everything to start that this church had a phenomenally diverse range of attendees. There was your typical grandmother with her
Pope Francis was encountered with a church experiencing loss of client involvement, reduction in attendance, and in some marketplaces adverse business development. There
In the past couple of decades the rise in non-denominational churches has been increasing greatly and are said to be the second largest group of Protestants (Moore, 2011). It is said that most that break off and become apart of this fast growing belief come from a protestant upbringing. The study shows that more people are determining on where to worship by how they like the nursery, if the worship music is good, is it close to home, rather than I am a Catholic I need to go to a Catholic Church. As of 2010, four percent of Americans fall into this non-denominational group (Thumma, 2010).
This megachange, makes people desperately to look for a secure place to keep changes away; a kind of safe heavenly place where the past will dwell forever. Robert Dale put it in this way: “Change, often viewed as a threat to traditional forms of faith, causes some churches to sprint frantically back into the past in search of security”. . Unfortunately, more churches preferred to choose the path leading to stagnation and slow death rather than to rise up and to reconsider their unique function in the world.
All ranks of Nazi officials played a significant part in the reign of propaganda that impacted the world. The creation of the “Final Solution” to annihilate the Jews and enemies of Europe was heavily culminated with propaganda efforts to keep death camps hidden from the view of media outlets globally. Originally this plan was to systematically remove the Jews, then with the establishment of ghettos and mobile killing units, SS Officers, German authorities and their collaborators were able to kill upwards of six million Jews. This was impactful on the society with almost two-thirds of the Jews in Europe killed by poison gas, shooting and other means.
Norris and Speers’ journey sent them out around the US in search for five different churches that undoubtedly worship differently but at the same time follow the universal Christian belief of the one true God. The goal of their expedition was to set out to explore the amount of politics that are found in many congregations. Out of these five distinguished churches, Norris and Speers’ focused on analyzing the congregation’s worship tactics, along with their leaders and mission of the church.
I turned to find Alisa, rested in her father’s arms. She whispered. “I’m home Mama. I’m a Greek.” And with a squeeze of my hand and a toothy smile, she was gone.
For many decades, Nuclear Power Plants have become a growing argument between the educated and uneducated. Some have grown towards the growth of these plants for their technological innovations and environmental benefits. Others have walked away from the deal, repeatedly exclaiming the risks and money that builds up over time. Though these problems remain open for everyone to see, those arguments are outdated and overstated. In addition, there are far more positives than the eyes can see, the negatives, however, are an eyesore. Nuclear power plants will benefit towns for the strict safety standards, the pricing of a nuclear power plant, promotional factors, and land requirements.
