The EMR training was a valuable experience that has allowed me to acquire the necessary knowledge for identifying life threatening situations during emergencies, and what steps are necessary to follow in order to stablish safety and give the best care for the patient. During the training I learned about how the EMS system works after is activated, and what is expected from the EMR while awaiting for a higher level of care. I learned about how important it is for the EMR to communicate clearly and give complete information to dispatch and to those involved in the EMS during the response of a scene. Safety is a priority of the EMR before and during the assessment of a scene. It is the EMR´s job to stablish prevention steps that will implement the safety of all involved. Once safety has been secured it is important to have safe access to the patient and to gain an idea of the MOI or NOI by being aware of the surroundings. This will help to create and idea of the possible treats of injuries of the patient. After that, the first contact with the patient will give the EMR and idea of the LOC of the patient (includes the patient´s consent of treatment) and his or her level of AVPU response. …show more content…
It is vital to know how to identify threats to the patience’s main body systems: the respiratory system, the circulatory system along with the identification of the possible trauma or medical conditions. Once the ABC´s have been treated, the EMR can begin to make a full assessment of the possible DOTS or medical conditions in order to stabilize or treat the patient with the resources available. Those resources might include the EMR life support kit of items that can be used to improvise problems like a broken bone splinted with a long rigid
EMTs are such an essential part of society nowadays. In my opinion, this is one of the most important jobs out there. For just a moment, imagine that you are driving down the road on a rainy night and lose control of your car. You go flying off the road and into a tree on the side of the road. Everything goes fuzzy and all you can see are flashes of reality. You fade in and out, hearing sirens and seeing lights, but you have no control of your body. The next thing you know, you wake up inside of a small room, freaking out because you have no idea what has just happened. Eventually you realize that the small room you are in is the back of an ambulance, and you are being taken
EMR system documents the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of a patient. This information is vital for the current and
The next step is to determine the nature of the emergency, then stabilized the patient's condition, and then administer the right procedures, while en route to the hospital. Treatment for the patients depends on what level of training and certification the EMT has gone through. First responders are only certified to care for a sick or injured person. A basic EMT can give CPR, control any bleeding, treat shock victims, apply bandages, splint fractures, and administer an automatic defibrillation. EMTs are also trained to handle emotionally unstable patients and heart attack, poisoning, and burn patients. EMT-Intermediate are trained to start an IV, or use a manual defibrillator for patients that are going into cardiac arrest. EMT-Paramedic are certified to be able to perform more intensive treatments, while working in close radio contact with the doctor. (Careers In Focus: Medical Technicians 76) EMT-Paramedics are qualified to give intravenous drugs, use EKGs, put in breathing tubes, and use any modern medical technology. Becoming and EMT or paramedic is a very stressful and demanding career. It is also a depressing job dealing with sick people every day. However, the job is extremely rewarding and gratifying to know that you helped assist in saving a person’s
The main goal of EMR is to improve the quality and safety of patient care. Because
Los Angeles, Doctor and founder John McLaughlin, came up with the idea to reduce health care costs and improve patient safety
You need to be ready for almost anything. You’re always under incredible pressure to do the right thing at the right time. There are so many different situations you may find yourself in being an EMT. You’re always making life or death decisions, and communicating with other emergency responders. This job is very general. You can always rise up from being an EMT. You can become a paramedic or even become an emergency room nurse. EMT-IIs take on more responsibilities than EMT-Bs. Such as administer IV (intravenous) fluids, perform emergency childbirth procedures, and administer
How can EMR’s improve the nursing process now and in the future? Having had the op-portunity to perform my clinicals in three different Emergency Departments in the past two years and being exposed to both the positive and negative to both paper and paperless medical records Training new nurses is vital for an accurate EMR. Patient safety is number one in hospitals. Every staff member that comes into contact with a patient should always have the question, “Will the patient be safe?” in the back of
This year I chose EMS as my senior year rotation. In this class, I experience what it is like to be a first responder since we find out what is wrong with our patient with the given information at the scene and then we plan a course of treatment for our patients depending on the site of the incident. This class has helped shape my knowledge of medicine even more and has helped carve us students into becoming EMT’s. Although the life of a doctor and a first responder are completely different, they both practice the same set of skills such as taking vitals, patient assessments, cardiopulmonary resuscitation,
The purpose of this paper is to discuss how safety in the nursing profession affects the nursing education, nursing practice, and nursing research. Safety in the nursing profession means to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers through both system effectiveness and individual performances (QSEN, 2014). Patient safety is a very important aspect in the profession of nursing. It is the nurse’s job to keep up to date with their patients and to make sure that protocol is being followed at all times. To maintain this strategy, the nurse must show proper knowledge of a nurse, skills of a nurse, and also a professional attitude.
If there are no signs of life, place a breathing barrier (if available) over the victim's mouth.I would usually use an air mask that EMT's carry with them in the ambulance or in their side pocket. Give two rescue breaths and make sure to keep the air way open. Breathe slowly, as this will air go in the lungs not the stomach.Every time you give rescue breathe, keep your eye on the victim's chest. If the rescue breath goes in, you should see the chest slightly rise and also feel it go in.Then give a second rescue breath. If the breath does not go in, re-position the head and try again. After you successfully gave two rescue breaths, prepare for the hardest physical part of CPR.
One day a couple years ago I was at daycare playing with my friends and it was a normal day. My mom soon called and said that my grandparents had been in a tragic car crash. Their car was totaled and my grandparents were not in good condition. They were soon rushed to the hospital and taken care of. They are doing fine today and still have their up-beat, friendly attitude. If not for those EMTs that were on the scene, sad to say, they probably wouldn’t be here today. I chose this topic because I want to help other become healthy again and to be around for there family. This paper will talk about why I wanted to do this job, other names for an EMT, summary of what an EMT does, the kinds of EMTs and what their specific job is, the qualifications, education path, salary, job findings, jobs related to an EMT, benefits, and if I still consider being an EMT.
Issues related to a lack of patient safety have been going on for a lot of years now. Throughout the first decade of the 21st century, there has been a national emphasis on cultivating patient safety. Patient safety is a global issue, that touches countries at all levels of expansion and is one of the nation's most determined health care tests. According to the Institute of Medicine (1999), they have measured that as many as 48,000 to 88,000 people are dying in U.S. hospitals each year as the result of lapses in patient safety. Estimates of the size of the problem on this are scarce particularly in developing countries; it is likely that millions of patients worldwide could suffer disabling injuries or death every year due to unsafe medical care. Risk and safety have always been uninterruptedly been significant concerns in the hospital industry. Patient safety is a very much important part of our health care system and it really
Although I have worked in EMS for many years, the EMS courses and assignments that were required continually amaze me with the information that I learn. Even subjects that I deal with on a day to day basis, teach me something that either I never gave much thought, or an angle that was never revealed. I found that this course with a few topics, but especially the discussion on fatigue, and of course, the impact of social media on providers and the EMS system as a whole had the most impact on me.
