Improving Mission Statement: Innovative Health Care

Bay Area Sleep Evaluation Center, BASEC, is still working on defining their Vision, but they do have a Mission Statement that is “IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF YOUR SLEEP FOR A BETTER TOMORROW” ("Bay Area Sleep Evaluation Center", 2010).  Their sleep specialists diagnose and treat problems ranging from inability to fall asleep to excessive daytime sleepiness. It is my goal, once I open my own sleep study, to enforce the mission statement by preparing my employees to be qualified and efficient in evaluating patients sleep studies. The vision statement is something my sister and I will work on together. The vision statement will be something real and our patients can hold us accountable for.

Our purpose statement instills the perception of the high moral values and hard work of our department as well as our strive for perfection and extreme customer satisfaction.

Subsequently, their mission statement clearly identifies the organization’s reason for being; as a result, they successfully guide and inspire moral conduct. Their mission statement combined with their core values form the core ideology; “Core ideology is the central identity or character of an organization” (Johnson, C. E. 2016).

  (a) Cuts in Medicare. The elderly on Medicare will see their benefits changed dramatically. The biggest item being used to pay for the new program is more than $500 billion in cuts to the Medicare program at a time when 72 million baby boomers become eligible for it in the next decade. The second biggest move to pay for this is by raising and expanding the Medicare tax.

The values of providing high quality and outstanding patient and family-centered care in your mission statement resonate with me. An innovation is described as something new or different being introduced into a situation. In healthcare an innovation could be useful or wasteful. There are many ideas that have come into play but only a few ideas really made a difference in the healthcare field. The innovation that I believe made a real difference in the healthcare field is the electronic medical records (EMR). Electronic medical records have recently been introduced in the health care field and so far have been getting a positive feedback.

It is meant to state in the clearest way possible what everyone job is when serving the clientele. It keeps the employee on tract and motivated to do their job as best as possible. This is important when an ethical issue arises. The mission statement will help guide a person to making an ethical decision based on the organizations goals and philosophies.
