Aveyard defines a literature review as a comprehensive study and interpretation of literature that relates to a particular topic. In his view, undertaking a literature review takes two steps: identifying a research question and searching for and analyzing relevant literature using a systematic approach to answer this question (Aveyard, 2010). Hart (1998) put significance on a review of the literature because without it researchers would not acquire an understanding of the topic, of what has already known, how it has been researched, and what the key issues are. Hart also offers his criteria of the literature review: ‘’The literature review as a piece of academic writing, must be clear, have a logical structure and show that you have acquired a sufficient range of skills and capabilities at an appropriate level.’’ (Hart, 1998) Different literature requires different ways to review. There are research literature and theoretical literature, the former refers to the literature that reports empirical research results, and the latter includes relevant concepts, relevant theories, and theoretical contexts. Generally speaking, reviewing research literature means reviewing the evidence about the topic or question, whereas reviewing theoretical literature means reviewing the thinking about the topic or question.
