Geography is the study of people, their environments, and their resources. Geography affects our lives and a country’s history. A country it affects is Nigeria, its geographic features have different effects on the country as a whole. The five themes of geography are location, place, human-environment interaction, movement and regions. These geographic features are very important and have led to historic events with significant outcomes in Nigeria.
Location is a theme of geography, which tells us where we are. There are two types of location, absolute and relative. Absolute location is a latitude and longitude, global location, or a street address, a local location. The absolute location of Nigeria is 10° North Latitude, 8° East
Longitude. Relative location is a location described by landmarks, time, direction or distance, and the relationship of one place to another. The relative location of Nigeria is east of Benin, south of Niger, southwest of Chad, west of Cameroon, and on the west coast of Africa. This causes great strife in Nigeria because its location has led to border disputes with their neighbors
Chad and Cameroon. Decades ago, Cameroon ceded from Nigeria and there are still disputes about which land is whose. However, their location is beneficial, giving them multiple countries to trade with; and control over the River Delta, which gives them a monopoly on oil production.
The theme, location, affects Nigeria as a country and the lives of its people.
The theme of place tells us what it’s like ‘there’. Human characteristics and physical characteristics are two parts of the theme of place. Human characteristics are the main languages, customs, and beliefs of a country; how many people live, work, and visit a place. The main languages of Nigeria are English, Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa. Many aspects of Nigerian customs
have to do with politeness and respect to your elders. The customs are simple, such as greeting your elders and parents in the morning, calling elders ‘ma’ or ‘sa’. They are very friendly and inclusive, and they always help out one of their own.The main religions are Christianity and
Islam. Thee Northern region of Nigeria is mostly populated by Hausas who are predominantly
Muslim. The West is

Geography Seen Through The American Eye (Question 4) Geography is one of the biggest factors in forming the culture of a society. People are affected by the land in which they preside creating the basis for their lively hood. Land has a crucial role in how the demographic of the United States as well as how other countries are structured. Although the geography differs throughout the nation it rivaled the European idea of a society based on the fact that the American people had a greater connection to the land.
The 5 themes of geography are location, place, movement, interaction and region. Location tells you where a place is. Place shows you what it’s like when you get there. Movement helps people and ideas get around. Interaction is what the people do to the environment and what the land does for the people. Region is what cultures have in common.
The 5 themes of geography are location, place, human-environment interaction, movement, and region. These 5 themes are what shape our world. Without these five themes, how would we give directions or point people to a specific place? Therefore I will show you how important the 5 Themes Of Geography are and how they could relate to you.
Taking away Nigeria's capital and enterprise, such action still continue to use Nigeria as a primary beneficiary of westerners who were at the forefront of
The five themes of geography consist of the location, place, human environment interactions, movement, and regions of a place. These categories are also split up into for location and are relative, or the to refer to something next to it as a direction to find this location. Absolute location is the exact coordinates or direction for an location. There 's also two parts the physical characteristics, which is the land, ecosystem, and the
Culture is the sum of knowledge, attitude, and behaviors shared on or passed on by members of a specific group. This includes human work and train of thought. It’s like a blueprint or rule of how the group of people should behave if they want to fit into a group. It can form us into one group that’s separate from the other groups. Culture involves food, shelter, religions, relationships, language, knowledge, security, social organization, and creative expressionism. A society is a group who basically have nearly the same identity. The term ethnic group is often used to a group that shares mostly was a culture really is. Culture and societies are mostly changing, whether it be at a slow or fast pace. There are about three different types of change or way of change can spread, particularly with innovation, diffusion and its cultural hearth, and acculturation. Language being spread by diffusion ways can establish a cultural identity. Languages identity or culture can lead to the language having to be categorized and making a language family. As languages spread around the world so did religion. Religion consist of a belief in a supernatural power or powers that are regarded as the creators and maintainers of the universe. There are three types of religion monotheistic with one god, polytheistic with more than one god, and animistic or traditional is belief in divine forces in nature. There are also major religions such as
Geography influences an individual worlds view in many ways. It impacts the location of where you choose to live and where you would like to have your family. What you wear is influenced by the geography also, because if the climate is colder you would have to wear more layers, unless you would live to freeze and die but if you live in a warmer climate they would have to wear less layers. Geography would also be influenced in what you value, for example if you live in Canada you would value forests more because we have 9% of the forests on earth. The lifestyle of someone who lives in japan would be very different from someone who lives in Canada would. How physically active you are might also be determined by the geography, for example if you
Nigeria has been a country in political turmoil for a long time. The country was created in 1914 under British colonial rule and at that time it was considered a protectorate. It was not until 1960 that Nigeria received independence from the United Kingdom. One of Nigeria's problems politically is that it has over three hundred different ethnic groups. The three largest of these are the Hausa-Fulani, Igbo, and Yoruba. At the time of the independence of Nigeria it was split up into three states with each state being under the control of one of the major ethnic groups. The natural resources of the other 297 ethnic groups were exploited for the major three groups,
Geography, in general, is studying where and why locations are placed on a map. To answer these questions, you must have not only memory but skill as well. In unison, you must use geophagic themes, concept and skill, that not many people have or are willing to have. Location, Place, Relationship within Places, Movement, and Regions are the five guidelines for geographic education, a branch of social studies. These were put into place by professional educator to make sure that children would know and value the world around
4b) the entire setting of Nigeria brings out the theme of oppression especially political oppression. All of Nigeria is suffering as a result of the political oppression, including Abba Town, Enugu and Ifeoma’s village. The road setting also shows political oppression, especially when persons are stopped and searched by the military for no good reason.
Before we begin, let’s take a look at the country and its environs. Nigeria a former British Colony, located in the western part of Africa, it shares borders with Benin, Cameroun, and Niger. A growing population of 150million, labour force of 51million (70% Agriculture, 10% industry and 20% service), urbanisation is less than 40%, GDP is over $300billion, Per capita income is $2300. Nigeria is blessed with different cultures, languages and ethnic groups (252 in total); this was due to the colonization of the British in the early 19th century (Columbia Encyclopaedia). The British amalgamated its protectorates in 1914 to enable stable control and governance which made them create one Nation of Nigeria formed from all the groups, community and empires around the Niger area under their control. Nigeria had her independence on the 1st of October 1960 and since then various civil wars, political and religious unrest in the country to share power and resources amicably.
Maybe some people will think human geography has no relation between physical geography. But I think human geography has a great effect on physical geography, and physical geography has a great effect on human geography too.
The first factor, which contributes to the identification with a culture and a nation, is
The first was the weak sense of nationalism caused by all the ethnic groups where religion played a major part of the division. The main three ethnicities in Nigeria are Hausa-Fulani, Yoruba, and Igbo; the former is Muslim while the two latter are Christians. The second cause mentioned was the “divide and rule” which was a British tactic to employ ethnic groups against one another, and thus “helped ensure that ethnicity would be the main line of political cleavage after Nigeria became an independent country.” The third cause is the personal rule system based on “big men” and what this means is that Nigerian’s who worked for the British used their personal relationships to gain power and wealth, and in a certain way it is still used today in the Nigerian government. The fourth devastating cause was the “creation of an increasingly active and interventionist state during WWII and after until its independence in 1960, but that opened the doors to patronage, which would be used to gain political power and wealth. The past reveals the problems Nigeria has had for several decades, some of which have not disappeared but seem to get progressively worse. (CITATION)
