Goal attainment theory is an important part for the advanced practice nursing. Studies have been made linking goal achievement to a person’s well being creating a positive effect. (Wong, Chan & Semmer 2016). Nursing focuses on the patient and the goal is to help patient’s make better and informed decisions when it comes to their health, thus making a positive effect on the patient’s well being. The focus on achieving a goal and having the patient involved in all the of the care makes King’s Theory applicable in the healthcare setting. (Careers, 2015) Application of this theory begins when the nurse starts assessment and collects all the data needed regarding a patient. The nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, interventions, and evaluation is an important tool for this theory to be successful. Figuring out the diagnosis and planning creates interaction with the patient thus, making the client participate in decision making, (Petiprin, A. 2016) When set of plan is made, the implementation will be acted on and the evaluation will determine the goals. If the goal is achieved there will be patient satisfaction.
