Inventions in the 1900's had a huge impact on the people of that time as well as spawning many other invetions that we use in present day. When it comes to transportation, Traffic signals helped manage cars at intersections which decreased a large number of crashes. Another huge feat in the trasportation section was liquid fueled rockets which would later enable humans to go to space. This would help scientific research tramendously. For entertainment purposes, the radio station is the pinical of inventions. This would allow for anyone to tune in and listen to music, news and talk shows. The radio was the main way for information to be transford from a news station to the home next to newpapers. This would soon become outdated with a new kind
As soon as one area thrived, all three areas (entertainment, sports, and radio) benefited. The radio especially turned the entire United States towards a new age of communication never seen before by mankind. What once took days or even weeks to deliver, now took the citizens only moments to receive the news as it broke. The radio not only improved the time frame of converting news, but created many new entertainment opportunities.
It was dubbed The Manhattan Project and consisted of some of the most brilliant physicists at the time such as Albert Einstein. Then, in 1945 arguably the most powerful and controversial technology was developed. This was the nuclear bomb and it completely changed the world forever. This weapon could be used to decimate entire cities and the only time it was ever used during any conflict was in 1945 (Shalett, n.d.). Japan was the target and the bomb left nothing but rubble in its path.
During the years of the 1800’s there were many technological, social and political developments in America. The country experienced growth through the Industrial Revolution, slavery and the women’s rights movement all in one century. The nation experienced reforms, utopian societies and compromises all in pursuit of a “perfect” America. All of the inventions, movements and amendments of the 1800’s helped shape America’s industry, government and society, overall shaping the United States.
The 1920s often referred to as “roaring twenties” is one of the most remarkable periods because of technological advances, and scientific discoveries. Many of the inventions made during the 20s such as Insulin, Penicillin and Traffic Signals have saved numerous lives. With the invention of Vacuum Cleaner, Washing Machine, Electric Dishwasher and Refrigerator household chores have gotten much easier. Due to the advances in technology and scientific discoveries made in the 1920s, inventors and scientists today are able to study the previous work and take the invention one step farther (Inventions in the 1920s).
2) In 1919 the very first radio station was invented. The radio was a form of entertainment, advertisement.
Many people bought radios, as they were cheap and effective. The radio was a useful tool for emergencies. If a weather emergency took place, people nearby would be warned hours before it hit due to the radio. It was also important in that the range of radios was limited. That way, the entire world would not know about a small thunderstorm in a small town. However, the reverse could be true. The radio also worked long range, and was important in telling the United States population if war had started, or about other big news, like the Stock Market Crash. The radio was also a very important form of communication in war. World War II was the first war that was a technology based war. The war had soldiers and commanders communicating and forming a strategy on the radio. The radio also sent propaganda to increase production for the war. The radio also had a huge impact on the 1920s because it spread religion, culture, and society news. The radio was the reason that the flapper lifestyle became popular, because it was broadcasted frequently on the radio. It also let people know about the Harlem Renaissance, a Black gathering of music and art, the Red Scare, where America tried to exterminate communism , and new laws such as Prohibition. A hugely important example of the radio was the Scopes Trial. This was a major debate between Scopes and the State, where Scopes broke the law by teaching evolution. Many expressed that the law banning the teaching of evolution
Music was everywhere, it became so normal to have music playing throughout the night and in the air all day long, people could have the same favorite song. One of the first notable stations was called KDKA, it was a commercial station (“Radio Fever”1 ). The science advancements made this new technology possible, light waves were similar to radio waves, but the wavelengths millions times longer. It worked by electrons moving through a wire to create a magnetic field then the electrons start to move, creating an electric field, the second wire would pick up the signal and is detected and then broadcasted. The radio made an impact on how people listened, shared thoughts and brought science and intelligence to a new level
The telegraph made railroads easier to function at the time, which was extremely important because that meant the shipping of goods and raw materials could be faster and go be delivered from longer distances, thus this form of communication boosted the American economy’s strength. “The telegraph stretched across the continent as did the railroads, the telephone and typewriter were invented, and a cable was successfully laid across the atlantic ocean providing quicker and cheaper communication between the continents.” (Robert V. Remini, 172). The radio however, was completely and utterly revolutionary. The radio engaged the nation on every issue there was, and because of it every american was on page and up to date on what was going on with the country weather it was politically, athletically, or anything.
The events that took place all through the 1900’s are a huge part of what has shaped our history all the way up until this day. It’s also a huge part of what shaped America and made us the free desegregated nations that we are today. For example segregation back in the 1900’s and caused many big events that all resulted in successes and failures. Jim Crow laws were made which are laws that enforced racial segregation in the Southern United States. Other big events that took place were protests like The March On Washington in August 1963 when 250,000+ gathered in front of the lincoln memorial to protest. The March on Washington was also the occasion of Martin Luther KIng Jr’s I Have a Dream Speech. All this happened for the rights of Civil Rights.
After the end of world war I in 1918, Europe was left ruined economically, physically and politically. In 1919 a year after the war take place, nations in Europe were struggling to get out of all the mess they gain from the war. As a matter of fact America only fought for a year and several month therefor U.S was left unharmed by World War I. This reality put America in head start for inventions and technologies for the next decade . During that time many inventors and technologists rise and make different important technologies that we still use them. In general, technologies in the 1920s helped American people to reach at the peak of comfortable living comparing to the standard of living of those
1. Describe some of the events and scientific discoveries that shook the late nineteenth century’s confidence in the idea of progress. What effect did these events have on music, literature, and the arts?
Many great innovations that benefited people came to earth in the 19th and 20th century. These new creations vastly improved people’s way of lives by making things easier and faster to do while some provide news and knowledge in a flash. The amazing ideas were formulated by brilliant inventors so that they could address the current needs to prevent time consuming tasks and at the same time deliver good results. Through these notable wonders which we often use were the computer, television, radio and telephone people were able to live fully and efficiently. We tackled about the most useful things and how did they become our everyday need and without these said
To begin, many of the everyday objects we see today were invented during this time period and these inventions greatly impacted the economy and helped develop a consumer society, which contributed
The radio is one of the most influential pieces of technology ever invented. From political debates to Taylor Swift’s latest hit, with the help of the radio, society stays informed on a plethora of topics. Freddie Mercury wasn’t lying when he said, “and everything I had to know, I learned it on my radio.” In almost every country in the world, there is at least one radio station used to broadcast news to it’s people. Since the creation of the FM radio, it has been used to reach out to people over a certain area and keep them informed about the society they live in. During the 1930s and the 1940s, the radio played a very important role in history; it was a tool used during World War II by America, Great Britain, and Nazi Germany. By sending
To me, progress does not always mean making successive improvements, but instead it means finding the best means of improvement. Based on my definition, I believe that the United States has made continual progress. Although there are times where we do not make giant leaps and bounds, we have always been in pursuit of finding the best route to take in order to solve a problem.
