For my course project I wrote about the current immigration crisis in Europe, specifically health concerns in the group related to communicable diseases. Some refugees come into Europe already infected with diseases. Greece had a resurgence of malaria “that was directly linked to an influx of migrants from Pakistan,” and several other countries are at high risk (Migration and Health). Two other diseases— leishmaniasis and Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV)— also carry the potential to be brought in by immigrants. This is a concern to U.S. national security because the immigrants we accept into the U.S. may be at risk of carrying these diseases. Additionally, even if we effectively care for and treat all infected immigrants …show more content…
The first is the lack of information available. Refugee community are often times unwelcoming to outsiders, viewing them as a threat, potentially leading to their deportation. Doctors in particular can be a cause of concerns for refugees. Historically, many countries would deny immigrants entry if they presented any symptoms of disease. This makes it difficult for anyone to gather information on what diseases are affecting the population, and even harder to treat. The second problem is information sharing. Luckily, there are mandates that require certain health information to be shared if so much as one case of certain diseases are present in the area. However, the list of diseases that are required to be documented is short. If most diseases encountered could be tracked, it would make studying the epidemiology and would make preemptive action in preventing diseases …show more content…
I made all of my slides and reported on all of them. In addition to that, I did the conclusion of our report. Mark did the overview. Mark and I both volunteered for the extra roles. I don’t want to give the impression that no one else was willing; we simply volunteered first. Our group was very good overall. We started early, mostly individually. I think most people, myself included, made the slides on their own computers then transferred the information over to the google doc the day before the presentation. It worked out very nicely. There were minor issues with disagreements on formatting, where the person who had issues with our bright pink background did not check with the group before changing the entire layout the night before the presentation. But we changed it back, and it was no big deal. We tried our best to organize the flow of information from broad to narrow, but it was difficult because we all had such widely different topics. In the end, however, I felt the presentation flowed well. This group of people was really fun to work
Beside the genetic and life style that are individual determinants of health, there are many other factors -known as social determinants of health- which are varies even for the people who are living in the same society. They are defined as “social, cultural, environmental, and political factors that can affects the health of individuals” (Rumbold & Dickson-Swift, 2012, p. 40). This assignment will discuss the influence of one of the social determents of health, accessing to health services on health of a specific target group; refugees and migrant population in Australia. The Refugee Convention 1951 defines refugees as ‘‘persons outside their country of origin who are unable or unwilling to return because of a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social, or political opinion’’. Australia receives about 12,000 refugees each year. This population faced many difficulties in accessing to health services such as cultural and
As in immagrant i had a long jeourny to the united states. The reasons for immagration would be in search for a better life. In search for better job oppertunities. In search for a better eviroment for your kids for your family.. Other reasons people would migrate to the united states is too get money. Many families in mexico are in nedd of money asap. Many families send ther youngest child out to the united states to go look for a job and to come back with money to support the family.
Before lands were set up into fixed colonies, people were free to roam and sail as they pleased. However, this is not to say that discrimination did not exist, and some were killed when they entered into foreign borders. The same holds true today in the United States of America, not necessarily due to discrimination but due to the immigration laws that were put into practice in 1790, beginning with the Naturalization Act. While it is safe precaution to make sure who enters the country and what their motives are, many are being denied the access to the American dream. It is because of this that the U.S. must take a step back and reevaluate their immigration policies.
But, why do people still want to come to U.S?Because of various reasons, some of them want freedom, others says they have escaped from their government, some people consider U.S the land of dreams, some people might come because of employment opportunities, some others want to get rich, quite a few others want to practice their religion without any fear. Finally, they all came to have and build a better life. They want to have a better future, a good job, a fancy car, a huge house, and safety.
There are many hotly debated and contentious issues today. Issues that people often find themselves arguing about with their friends, or something that people have a very strong presupposed belief of. But none more hotly debated or more querulous perhaps, than our immigration system. Very few issues have the magnitude and aptitude to tear an entire nation apart, and this is one of them. As with every struggle, there are two point of views. There are those that welcome the cultural differences and the economical possibilities that immigrants bring with them, along with their traditions and their work ethic. On the opposite side, there are those that view them as a potential threat to our barely recovering economy and to their American way of
Immigrants come to the United States to live the American Dream. The dream of equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. Unfortunately, the majority of immigrants are not legally eligible to live in America. However, these immigrants go against the laws in the United States. Without having the opportunity to pass to the border legally, most of these immigrants choose to go through the toughest mission to enter America. They go through many obstacles such as, crossing rivers with depths up to sixty feet, walking long distances of a desert, and climbing mountains. Some immigrants succeed in crossing the border, while others die on their way due to dehydration and starvation. Although, they go through a tough journey, they are living in America with the fear of being deported. This later becomes a big impact for families.
Imagine putting yourself in the shoes of an illegal immigrant. You have to feed your family, get money to pay the rent, and prevent getting caught from immigration authorities. The consequences for getting caught could include deportation or serving time in jail. 11 million undocumented immigrants currently live in the United States and have a family to take care of. Families caught under pressure in their own country might not have a choice but to enter a country illegally. Others would say that immigration laws should not let illegal immigrants into the US regardless of the circumstances, but these Immigration laws are unorganized and broken because millions of undocumented
yes many people come here wanting change in government and what not but that should not represent all muslims and arabs. My family came here as war refugees we have never once wanted this country to change in anyway. It is often common for many groups/races to want change in certain government aspects and it is common throughout history one book about the immigration to America actually speaks about this in many forms. Now NOT all people that come to this country do not expect change nor do they want this country to change. Many people come here trying to escape certain regimes of theirs prior country and are welcome change, much like my family. Now please when you generalize all people that come here make sure you understand not everyone wants
Illegal immigration should be allowed in the United States because they bring the same amount of assets they receive here. Conor William states that America integrates immigrants because instead of assimilating them the United States includes and sees the assets and strengths they bring to the country as part of the equation. He says “Integration as a Two-Way Process.” That is, we get at least as much from immigrants as they get from us”. Immigrants have provided America changing ways in their lifeblood.
Immigration in America has changed a lot over the years. Back in the Plymouth plantation time sailors had trouble traveling because of seasickness and very high winds. In one ship a large group of sailors sets sail for Holland for a religious free place that would be in what they now call New England. After they had fair winds and weather for a season, they encountered some dangerous storms and winds that the ship crudely shake. The ship had some troubles from the winds and waves of water crashing onto the ship but made it through just fine.
In the first place, illegal Immigrants have always been an issue in America. The plan would appear to be to make and put actively an Immigration Reform. One if the main issue is The United States have always been a country of immigrants. There have been refugees that came here forcefully, some reluctantly. In any case, however you look at it we are all immigrants, or the families of refugees.
Immigration has been a controversial subject over the years, especially when the time comes for Presidential elections, but while legislators play politics, the immigration problem has continued to be unresolved. The future will tell whether the immigration reform will resolve the problem of millions of immigrants who already reside in the United States, or the problem will continue to be ignored until another presidential term. Very little has been done in the past or is being done in the present to resolve any of the issues surrounding immigration.
Immigration reform is one of the most pressing issues confronting United States Legislators. Do you know why illegal immigrants come to America or any other country? Why is the matter illegal? Some say they leave their home country for a better life and work while others may say for religious reasons or just to get away. Some come for more opportunities and education and a better way of life. What is really the incentive for this? Do you agree or disagree with the law that an illegal immigrant must be demoted back to their country or origin. Do you have sympathy for such actions or are you completely against it? Hopefully if I give you the logical enough reason I can open your eyes and mind to obtain some of my reasons about illegal immigrants.
Illegal immigration has become a huge issue in the United States, it is estimated that there are about twelve million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. today and that number is growing larger every day. This issue has caused multiple social, economic, safety, and law issues within the country. The state and federal government is using billions of dollars on things such as school, welfare, and medical and receiving minimal or no money in return simply because they are giving out the money to illegal immigrants who do not pay taxes to help fund things. Even though illegal immigrants help the economy, take low paying jobs, and improve the overall image of America, the U.S. must not allow any persons who enter this country illegally to
"The failure to engage in the fight to anticipate, prevent, and ameliorate global health problems would diminish America's stature in the realm of health and jeopardize our own health, economy, and national security, " stated by The Institute of Medicine. Global health refers to health phenomenon that transcends across national borders. For instance, global health would address predicaments such as: infectious and insect-borne diseases that can spread from one country to another. Thus, global health should be addressed by collaborative actions and solutions. On the other hand, countries tend to focus on other essential issues that are occurring in the present day and therefore, overlook the global health issue. Some issues that countries
