Without scholarships, grants and financial aids, I will not be able to attend college. My family has to save up to pay for other necessities like bills, insurance, my siblings and my grandmother. I try to save whatever dollar bills or pennies I can find, to help save money being spent. If I receive enough financial help to pay for my first year of college, I will apply for Work Study to save up on money to start supporting myself financially and learn not to depend on my family income but my own. I will continue to apply for financial aid but try to pay for college with my own money as well. I want to take unnecessary burden off of my parents
I was raised in a environment of Generations after Generations of parents grandparents and family members that had a disadvantage of attending College because lack of finical funds and knowledge of the importance of college. My fathers parents lived the American dream by coming to america from Mexico to have a surpassing life. By hard work and little education they became property owners and raised three kids. My mothers parents had children right out of high school and were considerd poor but with hard and dedication
As my senior year comes around, it has become more real to me that I have to take charge of my future. I deserve and need this scholarship just as I need oxygen to breathe. Being the first in my family to attend college or even have the idea in their head means I’m on my own to discover what to do to get into college and how to come up with the means. I
I have come from a struggling background. My parents never attended college and my mother has been the sole provider for my family for many years. I have watched her struggle trying to provide for us and I determined long ago that I would strive to do more for my future family than what she was able to give us. My dreams required that I attend college. It is because of the financial hardship my family faces every day that the financial burden that comes from attending college rests solely on my shoulders. Although I am employed, I do not make enough money to pay for the cost of living and my school expenses. My goal is to become an attorney and I do everything in my power to attain that goal. I excel in all of my classes and have become a leader on my campus and in my community. I rely on scholarships like the Silas Purnell Scholarship to recognize these attributes in me and with the help of this award I will be able to take my last step in my path of earning my baccalaureate degree and making my goals my
The FAFSA is a good indicator of an average family’s ability to help pay for college, however, it does not work in situations like mine. I have had a serious medical condition that has had me in and out of the hospital since I was twelve and has caused me to miss quite a bit of school. This last summer I traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan where I had an aortic patch plasty, which required me to be in the hospital for 56 days, when I was fourteen, I was the 26th person in the United States to have their renal arteries replaced. This condition has put a major financial burden on my parents causing them to take on multiple jobs to pay for the medical bills, which also makes it so that I do not qualify for financial aid. Although, I tend to keep my
As much as the world tries to say that money isn’t everything, money does make certain situations better. I want to ease the burden that my family and I bare in attempting to send me to college. Also scholarships will help me maintain healthy stress levels while I’m in college. I will be able to focus on my studies without the constant stress of how I am going to pay for my tuition. I will be far more motivated, diligent, and disciplined to complete my degree if I have scholarships to support me. Knowing that someone else has placed their confidence in me will give me extra incentive to complete my
Monetary investment for college is a huge contributing factor into the argument of why many individuals should not go to college. They simply cannot afford it. Their parents cannot help them pay for college, they didn’t receive financial aid, or they cannot support the financial burden themselves. Financial aid is very helpful when I comes to diminishing the cost of college. However, this doesn’t help all the time. I have a friend who
I have been extremely fortunate to avoid many hardships. However I have faced a financially barrier, especially as I have set the goal to finance college without loans. My family is not poor, but we do not have enough money to put two women through university. I have taken the initiative to surpass this barrier by working and applying for scholarships. I started by attending community college first as it is less expensive. I quickly realized that the lower tuition was not enough and took a job at a grocery store deli. Most of my income has been placed into my savings. I have saved up a decent sum of money, but will still need help to pay for college. Now I am applying for as many scholarships as humanly possible. I have received scholarships
For many people they have dreamed about going to college whether it is local or far away. They can already picture their future being successful. Some believe they already have a lot of things planned out, from how they will pay for classes to where they will live. Surprisingly everything does not always go as planned. Let’s start off with financial aid. Financial aid is any grant, scholarship, or loans that are offered to help pay your college expenses. Many time this aid provided by federal and state agencies, college or foundations. Many times the aid given to you is based off your parent’s salary. This can sometime be bad if they
The salary that my parents got, can only afford their basic living expenses and also contribute some of the rest to my and my sister’s college tuition, which is obviously not enough. To help paying my college tuition, I work on the weekends (three days a week) at a grocery store with a minimum wage paying. I am so thankful to my parents for letting me go to college and pursue my life goals despite our financial conditions. Although many times I have been thinking to drop out of school, but there is no way that I could do that because of all the sacrifices that my parents had. My family has made many sacrifices for me to give me an opportunity to be able to enter college.
My family has many economic issues but strive to give their children what they need. My mom is senatorial services and my father works as landscaper. Having two parents that work long hours and that have a hard time making ends meet, it makes me realize the importance of scholarships. Because of the fact that we have a full house: my mom, dad, older brother, my other brother, his wife, my sister and my nephew, it is very difficult for me to say that I can get major financial support from my family.
My family, like many other middle-class families, do not have $20,000 of expendable resources to pay for college for my sister and I. The only way I will be able to afford college is if I receive enough scholarships to cover nearly all the tuition. Our education system and the amount of money necessary to pay for a bachelor’s degree has put financial stress on my parents and have caused me to overextend myself in school and community involvement in hopes of attracting scholarship committees to decide I am deserving of the money they are giving. Education is important because it allows college graduates to obtain stable jobs.
Growing up money was an issue and currently is. I live in a single mother home with the support of my father. When I needed money my mother is who I would go to and she would do whatever it took to help me but now it is time for me to get a higher education so that I can help my mother out with a future
It is beyond the power of my family's ability to subsidize the college expenses that are required for myself to fulfill my future education. There aren't any special circumstances besides having my mother aid my sibling financially, while having to work in a low paying job. Furthermore, my family's ability is restrained by some loans we had to acquire so we wouldn't live paycheck to paycheck. My family's aid will not be futile as they will assist me as much as they
College as great as it is, is expensive. It can be a burden just thinking about how to pay off our student loans. Although, one of the greatest ways of relieving this burden is through scholarships! If I were to receive this scholarship, it would help a great deal in relieving some of the financial need for my education. I have several siblings my parents are probably also worrying about too. It takes a lot of money to send four people to college. But with this scholarship, I hope I can alleviate some of the money for my brothers and sister. It would mean a lot to me if could make my parents by not having to worry about me as much. Scholarships like this are stepping stones for students like me trying to get into college. After I am done with college at Mississippi State, I will happily and diligently pursue my passion as a Computer Scientist. If I can receive a scholarship, it can begin the process of paying for the hike over the mountain of a college
In conclusion, recieving a scholarship would impact my life significantly by minimizing the burden of paying for school, by helping me to begin to realize my dreams, and would be the catalyst to start me serving the public. Without these scholarships, I would be hard pressed to pay for school, due to me being so young and having not very much money or a means to generate it. Especially considering that even if I do graduate, it's not guaranteed that I could get a job to pay it back. As we all know, student loans are the kind of loans one has to pay no matter what, and it would be a foolish gamble to assume I would get a job directly following college that'll allow me to begin to pay for my student loans. Anyways, not having to deal with the
