The short story 'Identities' by W.D. is an excellent example of how society tends to judge and stereotype others based on their appearances and where they come from.
For example, when the protagonist, a "clean shaven" man meets the antagonist, an "inexperienced" police officer, he thinks he's safe. Meanwhile the antagonist thinks he's in danger because of the way the protagonist is dressed in "blue jeans – matching pants and jacket made in Paris", what he drives, "a grey Mercedes Benz", and the rough looking neighbourhood he's in where there's a "ten-foot wire fence enclosing a playground bare of equipment and pounded flat [and] the gates are double locked." The irony in the story is that the police officer who is suppose to protect the safety
