It’s hard to imagine that Christianity, a religion today with such a stronghold on the population with an estimated 2.2 billion adherents, could have ever once possibly ceased to exist so easily. Somehow, it continued to grow despite 150 years of such uncertainty and persecution in Rome for followers of Christ. From the 33 A.D. when it is estimated that Jesus was crucified to 261 A.D. when the hunt for Christians begins to deescalate slightly, Christians were sought after for crimes against the Roman government. So how did the Roman emperor Constantine I decide to adopt Christianity as his own religion in 312 A.D. not long after mass criticism? First hand accounts and testimonies from Roman administrators are available to us today as records of the persecution of Christian believers.
One of the main questions is how did the Romans began to accept Christianity into their empire when it was hated and outlawed. Some of the reasons are a new ruler, change of beliefs from the people, and the spread of Christianity itself. Another one of the main questions is how did they go from being paganism to Christianity how was that made legal? Was it from a change of ruler,a new law that forced them, or just that the majority of the people of Rome believed in this religion.
Different client problems appear for different reasons and there are various theories used to identify the client’s problems. No one is exempt from problems, this much is a given. Problems are a part of the everyday life,
Hello Christian. You don't know me personally, but we have been Facebook friends for several months, but no real communication between the two of us.
The amount of Christians in the world make up 31% of the earth’s total population. There are 2.2 billion Christians in the word today, and around 100,000 are being persecuted each year. The issue I am doing is the religious tolerance of Christianity. Religious tolerance of is still a big issue today, Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world.
“The case for Christ” is a recently released film that is playing in our local theaters. I chose to my comparison on this movie as I hadn't heard of it prior to this assigment. Therefore, my I would have an open mind when reading the reviews. I began my research by searching for the movie title on the Opposing view points website. I read an article titled “The case for (and problem with) Christian movies.” Written by Paul Lickteig. Continuing my research, I googled the movie title and read the first review that came up which was written by Adam R Holz. There were some similarities in the articles but they both had very different tones and objectives.
“Christian theology developed in the very act of responding to pagan objections” remarks Gonzalez (63). As the church grew the practice of theology resulted in many interpretations and threatened traditions held about the nature of God. Gnosticism made inroads claiming that Christ was a messenger who carried gnosis so that humanity could return to its spiritual origins (72). It viewed the physical world as evil so the form of Jesus’ body was open to interpretation consistent with the thought that it wasn’t physical like the bodies of other people and couldn’t die so it also could not rise again. Some held that life in the world should discipline our bodies while others held that the human spirit was inviolable and life in the body should be unrestrained. This duality of physical and spiritual also gave rise to Marcionism.
The client’s primary metaphor was the people who are working in the church, they are the God’s people, and they have to act as God’s people. When I asked him about what he means with that and if he would give me an example for that, he said that he is expecting from the people who are working at the church who are serving God to behave at work and with other people according to Jesus’ norms without mistakes. Then, I realized the amount of the frustration that he was experience at work, the anger towards God, and the psychological conflicts that he is experiencing grounded on his assumptions. Adding to this, that he feel depressed because what he learned in his family was not practical at his work. It looks like as if his anger towards God cause
When encountering a difficult situation, one often engages in the process of moral reflection without even taking conscious note of it. Aana Vigen describes the nature of this process in her work “Conclusion” from the book God, Science, Sex, Gender: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Christian Ethics. The first step in contemplating a moral quandary is to stop and think about what you know, and then question that information (Vigen 242). It is important to keep an open mind during this part of the process, so as to consider other interpretations of the situation that had not been thought of before.
An angel appeared before a woman named Mary and stated to her that she would give birth to a son. She would name her son Jesus. Mary being a virgin gave birth to a child, conceived by God through his Spirit. Jesus being conceived in a supernatural manner became man and God in one creation. God became incarnate in this child who became known by the name of Jesus (Mathew 1:18-25) . Jesus was a Palestinian Jew, born in a town south of Jerusalem, raised in Nazareth in a small village in Galilee. Jesus was not any ordinary child. Jesus was the son of the living God. Not only was He the son of Mary, He was foremost the Son of God. He was incarnated sent to us for the redemption of all mankind. So how do we handle the incarnation of God?
Throughout the history of Christianity, the ways in which Christians have understood and identified themselves are almost as numerous as Christians themselves. These definitions of identity have come into being for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes Christians understand their identity over and against a prevailing culture. At other times, Christians understand their perceived identity as the dominant culture. In either case, and in all the nuanced situations that exist between those two points, Christians have set their own identity in response to their specific cultural setting. This reactionary influence on determining both communal and individual Christian identities has contributed significantly to the development of “in” and “out”
The first time I saw you singing last January 27, 2016 was magical. Who would have thought that you and I, has now the same understanding and you now have a special place in my heart.
From childhood we observe, study, and even absorb our surroundings. These observations cultivate the person we become and educates us on how to approach life situations independently. Independence is the self-governing state of freedom to think and act as we desire. How we approach life events can be viewed from a philosophical and/or a theological perspective. This essay will compare different approaches in Christian theology to philosophy to see which study was more influential in our individual development.
First and most important any catechesis' task is to educate and promote growth in individuals as they learn more about Christian ideology. The catechesis of a church should instruct at an age appropriate level, as well as, challenge their students. As one may assume the challenges or doubts the students may face vary, for example, the younger children within the church shouldn't be questioning the duality of Jesus' nature being completely man, yet entirely God. Instead, younger kids should wrestle with passages like Ephesians 6 "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right," and then living out the passage's commandment to obey their parents. The adults and teens within the church, meanwhile need to confront more stimulating
A religion of the status quo can be defined as a religion that “disseminates a characteristic ideology through all segments of society, propounding a set of fundamental values and principles that, while expressed in terms of lofty abstraction or eternal truth…serves to further the interests of those who hold power…” (Lincoln 79). In layman’s terms, a status quo religion is used by those in a seat of power within a society as a tool to maintain and propagate power. The best existing example of a religion of the status quo is Christianity. Christianity is the world’s primary religion, with the latest Pew
