The U.S.S. Arizona was a World War Two era battleship that was destroyed beyond repair during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The ship was built in the Brooklyn Navy Yard from 1914 to 1915. She was a 608 foot long, 31,400 ton, Pennsylvania-class battleship that cost sixteen-million dollars to build. It was christened in 1916 by Esther Ross with two bottles, one of water and one of wine by swinging the bottles on ropes to hit the bow, the front. The water bottle did not break in this process. The ship was originally to be named the U.S.S. North Carolina after the current Secretary of the Navy’s home state.

Have you ever visited Washington state? I have, in fact, I use to live there. Many great features about Washington to include gems, oysters, tall trees, waterfalls and volcanos. Most of the state is lush and green, that is why it is called the “Evergreen state.” Washington is a very beautiful place filled with many natural resources. The most prevalent of these is timber, but the state is also well known for farming oysters. Beautiful waterfalls and an explosive volcano.

Iron making was important in the 1700s and 1800s. Iron was used to create weapons and kitchen utilities which were very important in that time. However when coal was discovered in Pennsylvania the iron industries crumbled. Hunting, gathering and trapping have been in the Pine Barrens for 300 years. The abundant number of animals and plants in the Pinelands give people something to hunt and gather. Hundreds of years ago this was essential however today it is regarded as recreation.
