I chose the movie clip entitled “King Kong”. It’s from the movie “Training Day” starring Denzel Washington. Training Day is a movie that follows a corrupted detective’s day to day mischief as he schools a rookie cop. Training Day depicts a product of the matchup between screenwriter David Ayer, who grew up in South Central Los Angeles, and director Antoine Fuqua, who grew up on the rough side of Pittsburgh. Both Ayer and Fuqua are highly familiar with the highly intensified relationship between police and criminals.

All the interiors done on stage were taken from the locations and researched in the neighborhoods with the help of the residents which also gave the film the authenticity of being in the “hood”. She became sort of an urban anthropologist, because everything the viewer sees is as it really is. The colors and textures used, change throughout the scene, but everything they used was taken directly from the neighborhood that you find yourself in throughout the clip.
Cinematographers and art directors play a very important and creative role in film production. They work closely with the director and give a film its unique visual look and identity. The art director was David Lazan and cinematographer Mauro Fiore. The entiriety of the movie is comprised in a single day which can be challenging for cinematographers and art directors. The film seemed to be filled with brief stints of consolidated action and emotion. This gave the plot of the film the feel as though it was unfolding in only a single day.
Light can make a scene look more realistic by creating shadows and highlights. In this scene Alonzo if enraged with anger as he looks for help from the gangsters and thugs he once worked with and protected but those very same individual’s no longer have the same respect for Alonzo. In this move, camera work plays a very important role. Since there are lots of emotional events in this story, camera work has to be able to transfer these emotions to the viewers. In fact this movie contains a rich camera work. The distance of camera, the angle and the way that camera moves toward the characters are significantly well done, because we can see all the changes that occur on face of each character. These make the movie to be more impressive and interesting.
This allows the scene to create greater tension with the use of darkness diverting the audience expectations. For the camera movement, firstly it is a long shot to show the location and they are going to fight, and then it use a lot of close up, over shoulder and extreme close up to illustrate how they fight with using different Kong Fu and weapons, during they are fighting, it also has some bird s eye view shot to show how intense of their fight, because it also show the ground fault of the weapons and the struggle traces shows the suspension. As a distinctively visual technique, audiences are able to feel the suspense. The way in the shooting, the director Ang Lee has done all the details in every possible way. In the light text effect, he spent most of the low key lighting to keep the mystery of kung fu; the lens shooting, he spent a lot of The third-person perspective and two shot make the audience appreciate the traditional Chinese martial arts, and he can also take care while a lot of details, such as eye contact play against the two sides, the audience can understand the meaning of what they want to say without the dialogue. The scenes is showing a back and forth between two characters staring at each other, then that is most likely the use of the shot-reverse-shot technique.
Most of the actors are wearing darker clothing as well which makes their faces stand out even more. This lighting style also adds to the tension and the mystery of the scene. It makes the audience on edge. The contrast filled lighting of film noir is also effective at bringing out the extremes of emotions and thought. The darkness of the genre makes anything that goes wrong seem less taboo, because the lighting of the genre sets up the norms for the world that the film lives in—and in that world, bad things happen. For example, when Ray is sleeping with Abby multiple times, it is very hard to see what is happening in the background. Many shadows were visible in the movie and this made the film have a more dramatic look. It had a very mysterious and dark atmosphere, which created more suspense.
In the film The Dark Night the director, Christopher Nolan, uses many different techniques to make this scene, a particularly important piece of the story that finishes the film, impactful for the audience. With Gordon and Dent in completely opposite positions of power, the drama and value of this scene is intensified. Attention is immediately drawn to Dent's cause for violence and action, something that can be drawn back to everyone he opposes; a loved one. One positive aspect was that the lighting was more bland and not overly saturated. I believe this gave the movie a more natural, yet depressing tone. The movie starts out before the sun rises and as Maria rides the bus to work in the first scene the overcast sky creates a bleak atmosphere. This coincides with the plot line and how Maria feels about working in the flower factory. On the other hand, the shaky camera proved to be distracting for much of the film, especially the ending scene. The shot of Maria walking through the airport was supposed to represent a newfound strength and power, but the movement of the camera distracted slightly from such an empowering scene. Overall, the director did a wonderful job on the film. It is truly a film about redemption and finding oneself. While much of the film portrays one difficulty after another, the audience feels as though they are on the journey with Maria. We feel as though we are traveling from Colombia, trying to figure out what to do next in New York, and finally finding the strength to stay as Maria

For instance in Tony Montana’s house, you can see that he used dark colors in his house, dark reds and blacks. These colors will reflect very dark lighting and a sense of evil. This is how mise en scene correlates to the type of lighting that is used in a film.
