Pearl Harbor is just one event that has shaped American history. With this being a topic of interest to many, authors like to use it as a setting for a fictional story. As a reader, it is important to remember that when reading historical fiction, some elements of the story will be truth while others will be made up. In the book I survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor it would seem that the author Lauren Tarshis was more concerned about writing a story rather than accurately portraying history. I read the book I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor 1941 by Lauren Tarshis. The main characters are Danny, Danny’s Mom, Mack, Aki, Aki’s Mom. When the bombing started Aki and Danny thought it was the Germans but Aki’s mom said they were Japan's plains. All in all the book I Survived Pearl Harbor is a really good book. …show more content…
First, the main characters in the book were Danny, Danny's mom, Aki, aki's mom, and Mack but the research we have said they did not exist. Second, the planes in the attack were told not to hurt people or the hospitals. The plains were told to only attack ships. The attack was planned by Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who did not want to go to war with the us. Third, In the book they talked about the air force place Hickam Air Force base which research told us it did exist and is still in use today. All in all, the book I survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor was correct on some
On December 7th, 1941 Pearl Harbor was indeed attacked by Japan. Almost twenty naval ships and approximately two hundred airplanes were completely destroyed, while somewhere near three thousand men lay dead or injured (Pearl Harbor). Luckily, no aircraft carries were docked in Pearl Harbor the day of the attack. Or was it luck at all? It seems coincidental that all
The book “I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor” was written by “Lauren Tarshis”. This book; like most historical fiction books; mixed actual events with fictional characters. I overall liked this book but was a bit disappointed when they mainly focused on characters rather than real events. The summary of the book is about a boy named Danny who lived with his Ma in New York City, but that all changed when Finn; a friend of Danny; fell off a balcony and got hurt. Danny’s Ma then decided to move to Hawaii because she thought it was much safer there; Danny really wanted to get back to New York and Finn; he even thought about stowing away on a ship that traveled between Hawaii and California. Then he met a boy named Aki; and later his mother
On December 7th, 1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japan. On this horrific day over 2,400 Americans were killed by the bombs that the Japanese had dropped. A month preliminary to the attack, Japan sent a plenipotentiary to Washington to arrange the nation’s expansions in Asia. Although if the United States didn’t accept this aggression, Japan was ready to launch a surprise attack. President Roosevelt launched bombs to the Philippines between the Japanese and Dutch oil fields, before they had sent the plenipotentiary. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was over seven hours long, they were 353 Japanese fighter planes, torpedo planes launched bomb. They were a bombing blitz that destroyed 188 U.S. aircraft, had sunken 4 U.S. Navy battleships, and killed more than 2400 Americans with an additional 1,100 injured.
When Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941, it set into motion a chain of events that would radically transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of people that, in one way or another, had ties to Axis countries, though they were not necessarily loyal to them (Harmening). This transformation started with government-sponsored arrests and kidnapping of Japanese, Germans, and Italians living in America and Latin America (Russell 39).
The book “I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor” particularly expressed some of the events of what happened that dreadful day. This book may give you a partial understanding of what happened, and it can open you up into wanting to learn more about the topic. If you do want to learn about "The Bombing of Pearl Harbor"; than I suggest you read more books and find other reliable sources rather than just this
The book is formatted satisfactorily and provides great detail to the events that happened on this unexpected and devastating day in American history. Gillon also focuses on the after effects of the attack to the States as a whole providing the readers with a fresh view on FDR’s presidency, leadership, and his impact on America. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor is considered one of Americas greatest defeats on its home soil. A simple search of a database can provide unprecedented amounts of information regarding the devastation and failure of high ranking officials. This information can help build our knowledge of a situation, but history isn’t based on solely simple facts and long summarized accounts of events. Personal accounts provide first-hand accounts that help indulge us into the shoes of those that witnessed them in their triumph and defeat. Pearl Harbor was indeed a massive defeat in the eyes of many Americans during this time period, but what about those that were present?
The book I Survived The Attack of Pearl Harbor was a great book, but here’s the big question; Is it accurate? Well, thats pretty much what this whole essay is about. But that’s not until the third paragraph, so why don’t you make yourself comfortable will I get to that. This book brings to life many aspects of this attack that I have never thought of. What would it have been like to see the battleships blow up? What would it be like to see all of that destruction? That is what this is all about
The book is set in japan and Hawaii on December 7, 1941. Lord shows the readers that the soldiers who attacked Pearl Harbor were ordinary soldiers who were following orders. Lord gives a detailed description of how the attack was carried out, but the vast majority of the book is comprised of the personal experiences of people interviewed by Lord 15 years after the attack. This makes it a confusing set of facts but also gives the audience a real feel for what it was like for the participants and some non-participants who lived on Oahu during the attack. Lord takes the audience from the planning rooms of the Japanese Royal Navy all the way to the aftermath of the battle and a bit of the clean-up.
“A date which will live in infamy (Roosevelt).” There were three part to this attack, what lead to the attack, the actual attack and the aftermath. The world was at war and the United States didn’t want to get too involved until the attack happened. During the attack on Pearl Harbor the United States made the decision to join the War. The United States joining the war brought the most crucial years to follow along with the dropping of the atomic bomb. The attack on Pearl Harbor was the beginning of the a very long war that cost the lives of many people but brought a nation together.
It all started the morning of December 7, 1941 when Japanese leaders decided to bomb the United States. Families were then broke apart and things became much more complex in the lives of Americans. Pearl Harbor was not “just a bombing,” but in reality it is so much more. This bombing had a great impact on the whole world for World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor had many situations before the bombing, during the bombing, and after the bombing.
World War II was a war that everyone will remember and will be remembered for many years to come. It could even be said that it killed more people, destroyed more property, and had far more reaching effects than any other war in history. New technologies were used in the war, such as the Atomic bomb, which opened up the nuclear age. Pearl Harbor was one of those events that will never be forgotten by Americans. Pearl Harbor was especially memorable to America because that caused us to get involved in the war and it outraged everyone in the country. The United States played a key role in the war. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was a major turning point in World War II.
On December 7, 1941 hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the U.S Naval base located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The bombing had lasted for two hours. Many lives and military vessels were lost. In two hours the Japanese destroyed 20 American naval vessels, eight battleships, and more than 300 airplanes. 2,000 Americans soldiers were estimated to have died including sailors, and another 1,000 wounded. Many Japanese Americans feared for themselves because of what Japan had done. Japanese Americans and the Japanese had two different perspectives on this problem. The Japanese in America were the ones left suffer for Japan's actions
December 7, 1941 was one of America’s darkest days. This was the day of the famous pearl harbor bombing. This attack came from the Japanese attacking the American Naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack had been in the planning for many years to attack and weaken the United States Naval force. Japan wanted to do this to gain more superiority in the Atlantic and to grow their ties with European nations. In this paper I will talk about the people, the planning, the attack, and the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor bombing.
