I don’t mind rap. There isn’t really any time of music I hate. There are some that I don’t love, but I like practically every type of music just a little bit. I don’t listen to rap every day, but occasionally I get in a mood for it. I think that it is important to have variety in your music interest. When you have variety it can make life a little more interesting and sometime easier. I have friends with all different music interest, and they taught me how to be diverse and understanding of other styles of music. I have some friends that like country, some rap, some rock, and some pop. Before reading this chapter I didn’t know a lot about rap or hip hop. I knew a little bit about rap from a couple friends that like rap. I learned a lot about

What is a Nigger? This one term holds hatred that has transcended generations, and though now only whispered in the homes of white elitist and the ignorant, still is at the root of many of the racial issues African American’s face in America. Despite this, within the African American community the word “nigger” has transformed into the word “nigga”. Thus, changing the connotation from a shackle that made clear one’s position on the social hierarchy to a link that has bounded the community spiritually, symbolizing endearment and brotherhood when used by other African Americans. The change in connotation can now be seen in multiple formats within African American Pop

J-rap music is too often mistaken as imitating the orthodox genre of rap, and it’s not. Although, influenced by old-school rap, J-rap is still unique. A lot of rap music produced today is commercial, and the artists are making their riches promoting negative images to the youth of today’s society. At one time, rap music served as a medium to empower youth in a positive way. However, today rap is giving far too much praise to criminal deportment and meantime, while American rappers continue to advocate gangster rap singing about guns, drugs, and sex J-rap, on the other hand, doesn’t. When it comes down to Japanese artist rapping about mind altering substances “beer and marijuana” is in their lyrics, but harder substance such as “crack cocaine

I love Smooth jazz because the rhythm so quite so I believe it's good for me after busy day to refresh my soul and push me forward. I listen to smooth jazz every day
Imagine an inner city kid having grown u in an environment where real life street violence is a way of life. His body, having survived personal experiences of violence, endured barely life sustained conditions, and many sleepless nights caused by the constant yet unpredictable call of death. His mind doubtful over where his next meal will come from, lost in search of some higher guidance, struggling through a world, not of innocent childish fantasies, but trapped in a forced reality. His only outlet is the loud blaring music coddling his already pent-up rage, an escape from these harsh realities, seducing him to a life of violence. In him is created a “me against the world” mentality that is manifested in
I changed my mind about rap music. Growing up, I never really liked it, the quick beats, the vast usage of inappropriate words not equipped for my adolescent ears disgusted me. I associated rap music as being "dirty," only discussing explicit topics and having no real meaning. While everyone else in high school was blaring Drake and Lil Wayne in the parking lots, I was perfectly okay with listening to Demi Lovato or John Legend. During my sophomore year of high school, my friend kept pestering me to listen to the Hamilton soundtrack, and even though the songs were raps, I realized I loved it. Eventually, I started to not associate all rap music as detrimental and discovered that some rappers rapped about important messages of adversity, conflict, and pain. This lead me to listen to Chance the Rapper's "Coloring Book, " Childish Gambino's "Red Bone and J Cole's "4 Your Eyez Only." I realized that rap is just poetry with accompaniment, poetry that has the rhythm and style to bring generations of people together.
I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a new rap era called “Mumble Rap” caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who predominately used adlibs in their songs along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known mumble rappers are: Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Famous Dex, Kodak Black, and Desiigner. I joined this wave of not liking mumble rap to make myself seem better and more knowledgeable to this who listen to mumble rap. I would always say that “I only listen to lyrical people, except for Lil Wayne” or “Mumble rappers are trash and I do not like that”. You will usually see me criticizing people who listen to this new music because I felt as though the music was poisoning to our minds. Contrary to what I was saying, these were not my true feelings. The only reason I said these things was because I followed the thoughts and opinion of the much older people of the hip hop audience. I wanted to be all high and mighty as those individuals and show that I too also enjoyed the rap era from the 1990s to early 2013. Although I preached about how bad this new rap era is and the kind of music I listen to, no one pictured me how I pictured me. I began to notice more and more often, so I began to feel less dislike for the new rap and eventually not care if it is played around me. I would here one of the mumble rapper’s song on the radio and I would find myself liking it. If I am by myself, I would look
