Emotions have a strong influence on human lives. My mother’s constant battle with anxiety began after her mother died of a hemorrhagic stroke due to uncontrolled hypertension. Seeing her struggle with an almost debilitating fear of illness naturally lead to towards trying to better understand the complex interplay of disease and emotions.
I am naturally curious. In Pakistan due to limited resources and lack of foreign-trained professionals, the government hospitals affiliated with my medical school have no separate Neurology departments. Instead of this being a hindrance, I considered it a mixed blessing. My curiosity was kindled and I studied neuroanatomy and neurology with more vigor than most.
My desire for learning took me to the USA for clinical electives at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where I had the best experience in a short time frame. My interest in neurology intensified once I was able to observe and participate with neurologists and patients on …show more content…

The trust placed in me by my patients humbled me and boosted my confidence in my abilities to continue to learn and manage complicated cases. I enjoyed teaching and sharing my knowledge with my team. Due to my enthusiasm and interest in the brain, I was offered a job at “Brain Surgery.” This afforded me an amazing opportunity to view and learn about the surgical aspects of neurological diseases. In the U.S., I continued to pursue my interest by doing various rotations with neurologist in a variety of settings.
I am looking for a Neurology residency program which will afford me the opportunity to learn in a comprehensive fashion- taking both science and ethics into account. I am a diligent, curious, and hard working individual and look forward to honing my interest and using my skills for the betterment of my patients and society at
