The Hunt For Red October is a film directed by John McTiernan and produced by Mace Neufield and Jerry Sherlock. The movie is based on the novel of the same name, which was written by Tom Clancy. The film is about how CIA analyst Jack Ryan, played by Alec Baldwin, must prove that the rogue Soviet Naval Captain, Marko Ramius, played by Sean Connery, is not planning an attack on the United States and that his intentions are truly different. The film is set during the Cold War, in which tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union are high. This adds to the overall suspense of the movie. The Hunt For Red October is a film that really pushes your perspective of what a movie is and it allows you to see other aspects of the movie. Because …show more content…
They only see the plot and the characters and call it good. Yet, they forget to recognize the other aspects of the film. In this film, I’ve noticed quite a bit of literary aspects of the picture. The plot of the movie is what makes the movie what it is, however there are more ideas and things that go into the plot. The first thing that I noticed was the realistic nature of the plot. A plot like this wouldn’t work in a different time period but with it being set during the Cold War, it makes sense, however, the nature of the characters is one that would make one question it. When we look back at history and the cold war, we see that in that time period, there was a lot of patriotism on both sides and how very close we were to nuclear war. In this case, I find it a bit weird that Marko Ramius wanted to go to the United States. Maybe he was against the ideology of the Soviet Union, but even then it is a bit weird. What the plot does is it leaves everything resolved, just what a plot should do. The dialogue in the film can be viewed as realistic due to the nature of the plot, causing one to be confused at times due to topics of discussion involving the submarines or anything along the subject line. The overall theme that I felt in the movie was the theme of discovery. Throughout the motion picture, we see Jack Ryan try and find the Red October, leading me to the theme of
The Red Badge of Courage, by Steven Crane, has been considered one of the greatest war novels of all time. It is a story that realistically depicts the American Civil War through the eyes of Henry Fleming, an ordinary farm boy who decides to become a soldier.
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao’s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009).
The film ‘Red dog’ focuses on the life of a dog and how he affects the lives of those around him.

It is clear that above all else, Private Ryan is intended to create an awareness of the sacrifice of the soldiers that gave their lives during World War II. In doing that, Steven Spielberg very successfully in brings out intense
The American Revolution was a great mark in history because the colonist were striving to get their independence from Great Britain. From seeing many films the revolution was a harsh and emotional time. Many families suffered from the deaths of their husbands and fathers. Soldiers dealt with hunger and bad conditions, but the end it was worth the suffering because America got its independence. The Patriot helped developed the appreciation and understanding of the American Revolution. The scenes from the Patriot that increased the understanding of the American Revolution was the Strategy behind the Battle of Cowpens, Siege of Yorktown, and The Revolutions Divides Families, Friends, and Villages.
The word revolutionary means involving or causing a complete or dramatic change. The word revolutionary can be used to mean different types of changes depending on the time an event was taking place or how drastic things got compared to the ordinary daily life. An event in history that occurred that made the United States its own country was the Revolutionary War which was fought against the British. There were many different events that lead the colonies to finally want to break away from the British monarchy and it drastically changed the way of life for the colonies. The Revolutionary War was revolutionary because it led the colonies to establish a new form of ruling through government and mentally changed the way the colonials thought about certain things that they did not know they were capable to accomplish or obtain.
This week we talked about the U.S. history and racial equality. Specifically what I want to focus on is the radical movements of this time period. With the Indians and Blacks with how they used these to influence society. With the Indians it was with the red power movement and with the Blacks it was with black power movement. The Indians used their influence to try to get the land back that they lost and with one of their main activists being incarcerated Leonard Peltier did not help in the process. Also with the American Indian Movement had their own concept of ideas and solutions that changed how people think. The blacks used their influence and started the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Their main activists were
The Civil War officially started in 1861, yet problems between the North and the South date back as far as the early 1830s. The North was infuriated over slavery after a woman by the name of Harriet Beecher Stowe published her book Uncle Tom's Cabin. Stowe's book analyzed the life of a slave in an astonishing and realistic way. It caused many people to join the Union. Then the war began in July of 1861 when a Confederate army met with a Federal army at Manassen, Virginia. Many battles were fought until finally the north was victorious. Slavery was abolished, and the federal government's power was set as supreme power over all the land.
Question 8: The Federal Government’s Response on the Red Power Movement at Alcatraz and Wounded Knee
How the Revolutionary War Begun Following the French and Indian War, or otherwise known as The Seven Years War, Britain was in major debt as with many countries after war. On the other hand the Colonies were thriving from trade and agriculture. At the end of the war the parliament in England had no organized plan to reduce the enormous debt they had bestowed upon themselves. Financing the French and Indian War had almost doubled the national debt. The parliament had stumbled into the beginning of the Revolutionary War without even knowing it.
This may be a little bit of a downer, but it is how things work in the real world. This decision to portray the search for meaning in such a real way makes the movies message so much more effective. From a critical standpoint I found this movie to be very successful. The way the characters are written makes them feel very real and very human. The story sounds like something that we would see in the news today, despite the film being almost thirty years old.
The October revolution is established to be a social revolution that was enacted through the leadership of Vladimir Lenin. It has evidently proven to be a voluntarist revolution through the methods used to gain power. In this essay, the following will be looked upon, first, the comparative aspect and critical analysis of structural theory, and how it does not fit the components of the October revolution. The essay will look at both the voluntarist and structural theory, however, it will emphasize the importance and relevance of the voluntarist perspective. Second, the essay will focus on the argument proving that the October revolution is voluntarist. The October revolution demonstrates a voluntarist structure through the leadership of Lenin
The first steps in war are the steps of overcoming the line of comfort by solving the self-centered beliefs that will break you in a battlefront. Once overcoming those selfish traits and believe in yourself, that is when one flourish on the battle field. Henry Fleming's urge for war was short lived when he was put on the frontline. Henry Fleming was a fearful, coward, who always gained self-control and self-comfort by
While watching this film you may find yourself experiencing some of the same emotions as the characters in the film this allows you to be in the movie letting you be a part of an important event in our history. This is what makes the film so unique. Its full of different scenarios that keep you wondering what is going to happen next. I think that this film is a very close representation of what WWII was really like.
