Human nature can be defined as characteristics, feelings, or traits that of all humans share. Human characteristics and traits can differ from personal cultural background and or by the community that you are surrounded in. The significance of your community and culture is that it can be of importance since it could affect you negatively or positively. Human nature is by origin naturally good but is corrupted gradually or abruptly by the community or religion. Individuals from society and society itself can immensely make an impact on people. John Proctor is a innocent farmer who lived with his wife and his children, but is plagued by Abigail Williams. For example, John Proctor says “Abby, I may think of you softly from time to time. Abigail has seduced John Proctor to sleep with her and due to John Proctor sleeping with her this voided the seventh amendment which states “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Abigail is a negative influence on John Proctor because he wasn’t causing any trouble with any townspeople. Another example is the town of Salem. The town of Salem could have been of origin all good people but due to their beliefs this has had a drastic negative effect on all the people. Due to community being very pious, the townspeople accuse innocent people of witchcraft and they end up being condemned. Rebecca Nurse is a religious, caring, and sensible person, she is a very respected old woman throughout the town of Salem. She was accused then later condemned of witchcraft and the town was shocked since she was highly respected. “I take it on my soul, but who else may surely tell us what person murdered my babies?... They were murdered, Mr. Parris! ...“ (Miller, 16). This quote makes it clear that the people are very unreasonable and will accuse others of
