Human nature is the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioral traits of humankind. Human nature is a major theme in the novel, Of Mice and Men. The American dream is formed upon perfection; however, the American dream is later destroyed by reality and by the predatory nature of human existence. As the readers, we can see the predatory nature through the characters eyes. We see that all the characters at one point or another feel loneliness and isolation. Isolation takes a major impact on all the characters of the book. Steinbeck makes it evident that people require the friendship and love of other people so survive in the harsh and cruel world. For example, Lennie has George for a companion. Candy has his dog, and Curley has his wife; however, even though some of the characters may not have a mutual feeling towards one another they all require each other. The characters know that in the reality of the human nature you can not survive isolated. Crooks, an african american stable guy in the novel confides, “Maybe you can see now. You got George. Dear Mr.Stien Beak your book brought sadness and joy.The book of Mice and Men (1936) made me realize that many things lead up to what happened to Lennie was kinda spread out thro the hole book and we didn't know what was going to happen still.The reason that gouge did the right thing was because if curly would have caught Lonnie then he would have made his death really slow and painfully and he did is kill a person witch is not a good th no at all.
Its said that we always want what we don’t have. That as human beings we always have the need for something. We call these necessities our human needs. In the novel Of Mice and Men which is written by John Steinbeck we saw an abundance of characters who have human needs. The novel showed how characters would act when they were missing these needs and to what extent they acted to relieve themselves. The four main human needs that the novel reflected were the need for security, realism, idealism, and connection. The novel clearly expresses these human needs.

His famous book is actually based on a poem, known as To a Mouse, On Turning up in Her Nest With the Plough written by Robert Burns in 1785. Stanza two of the poem has many examples that show up in Steinbeck’s book, and even in today’s world. Stanza five reminded Steinbeck of the Dust Bowl and the hardships of that time period, even though it hadn’t happened when Burns wrote the poem. The main conflict involved all characters that struggling for survival during the Great depression due to the insecurity of jobs, uncertainty about future and no enough money. One of the conflicts was man vs. society in the story. Crooks, who was a black man with crippled back, segregated from other farm workers. He did not allow sleeping in the bunkhouse with the rest of people. Crooks consistently discriminated and considered as a second class citizen which lived separately in the stable with horses. Furthermore, He had called names and abused by others. He had not even given respect to having name and society will stay the same which he could not attain American Dream.
