Chapter Forty-One-
It is seen that Huck feels remorse over deceiving Aunt Sally so many times, and he vows to be moral, honest in gentle in regards to her poor soul. Huck feels loved by the fact that Aunt Sally does not want to even risk his safety and will not let him leave her sight. This is, however, challenging because Tom (Sid) and Jim are still awol. All of the neighbors are riled up with great energy of the peculiar situation and occurrences.
I believe that the reality of the situation has started to break Huck’s shell of child’s play and ignorant bliss when Tom was shot. He realizes that the situation is serious and calls for more responsibility than either two were paying it. Tom’s injury could prove to be life-threatening, if not

Aunt Sally and Huck seem to bond emotionally over the safe return of Tom. Tom wakes up and starts to spill and confess everything that they had done. Aunt Sally was astonished and could not believe it. He confessed to all the work and everything that they had collectively stolen.
It crushed Tom’s high spirits when he learned that sadly, Jim was captured and chained. He was furious that they would not set Jim free and that he should rightfully be free.
Tom’s mother showed up and busted both Tom and Huck for putting on a huge charade and lying to everybody. His mother exposed Huckleberry Finn and set the two boys straight. Aunt Sally and Uncle Silas were further confused and astonished. Huck felt awful for lying to her and does not want to further hurt her.
Chapter Forty-Three-
It lifted my heart and put a smile on my face to read that Jim was unchained and praised for his good deeds. It was touching to see that the community was finally praising him for his works, no matter the color of his skin. I would also like to point out that the only two lasting relationships that Huck had were concerning Tom and Jim. They were his true friends, and they were his family. It was also satisfying to see Tom pay up and thank Jim, as well as apologizing to Jim for all the trouble he caused. Jim is thrilled that he is finally rich like he had foretold. I applaud and admire
Tom compensates Jim by giving him a bunch of money, and people start to treat Jim
Initially, Widow Douglas attempts to civilize Huckleberry Finn, being Huckleberry has recently discovered a large sum of money with Tom, and have placed it in a trust by Judge Thatcher. Furthermore, Tom, Huck and a couple of boys attempted to form a gang but ultimately failed, in addition, Huck heard his drunk father has come demanding for his money. Huck’s father is furious about Huck being educated by Miss Watson, and constantly threatens him, as a result, Huck faked his own death with a pig’s blood and fled on a canoe. Subsequently, Huck temporarily settles in an island and then encounters Jim, which motive for fleeing is as a result of being afraid he would be sold away from his family. In addition, they come along a steamboat wreck and
When Huck stops Tom’s carriage, Tom believes Huck to be a ghost, but once Huck explains the situation, Tom agrees to help Huck. Once Huck and Tom arrive at Aunt Sally and Uncle Silas’ home, Aunt Sally welcomes Huck, whom she had met earlier in the day and believes to be Tom Sawyer, and offers Tom a meal and ride down to Mr. Archibald Nichols’ home. During dinner, “[Huck is] getting a little nervous, and wondering how this was going to help [him] out of [his] scrape, and at last, still talking to along, [Tom] reached over and kissed Aunt Sally right on the mouth” (190). Aunt Sally outraged by this action from a person she believes she does not know as friend or family. Tom continues on to say that people told him that Aunt Sally likes kissing. Aunt Sally, still mad, is confused as to why a stranger kissed her on the mouth. Tom turns to Silas then to Huck, ‘Tom, didn’t you think Aunt Sally’d open out her arms and say, “Sid Sawyer–“’ (191). Tom’s effort to keep Huck safe and to help rescue Jim demonstrates how bold Tom acts, and how, for Huck, Tom would do nearly anything. The fact that Tom willingly lies to his own family proves that even as a follower of society, Tom still has some form of a moral compass. Though much less bold than lying to his own family, Tom participates in the planning of and freeing Jim. To Tom, loyalty is extremely important, so helping Jim is, in Tom’s own standards, less bold. Huck makes a simple plan to free Jim, while the boys use Tom’s plan. According to Huck’s statement, “Well, one thing was dead sure; and that was, that Tom Sawyer was in earnest and was actuily going to help steal that n– out of slavery” (195), Tom dedicated himself fully to help Huck, once again. Tom does write the Phelpses a letter as to warn of the escape plan. This goes against the boldness that Tom presents to Huck in helping to free Jim, but as previously mentioned,
Huck tells Tom that he is helping Jim escape and that he is going to steal him back from the Phelp’s. Huck thinks Tom will say that what he is doing is low down and dirty, but he is wrong. With Huck and Tom being best friends Tom says “I’ll help you steal him” (180). Huck thinks Tom is joking but Tom goes on and says that he is not joking. With Tom boarding with Huck, Tom shows how much he cares about Huck by helping him do wrong and help a run-away slave escape. This also shows that sometimes friendship is more important than doing the right thing because if Tom tells on Huck, Tom might have lost his
This is another example of a situation where Huck finally has a light bulb moment. Huck has been traveling with the scoundrels, The Duke and The King, for a while and he has helped them to steal money from many different people. This time however, Huck begins to see the total horror of what the men are about to do to the young women. Tom is unable to turn a blind eye as he has in the past. He feels the weight of his portion of the actions and strives to set things right. In this case he has been doing things that are morally wrong and now takes action to make that right. This situation forces Huck to look for the moral right
Huck starts listening to Tom instead of listening to himself. And what Tom does gets
While trying to free him, Huck accidentally ends up staying with Aunt Sally and impersonating Tom Sawyer. At one point Huck wasn’t sure how Tom would respond to a question Aunt Sally would ask and Huck narrated,”So I says to myself, here’s another place where I get to resk the truth. I opened my mouth to begin; but she(Aunt Sally) grabbed me and hustled me in behind the bed.”(Pg. 168) Again, Twain proves that sometimes lying is necessary to achieve honorable deeds such as breaking Jim out of
Tom Sawyer makes it hard for Huck to express what he thinks is right because Huck respects Tom and his decisions. Colonel sherbern proclaims "you're afraid to back down-afraid you'll be found out to be what you are-cowards."(145) Around Tom, Huck seems to act like this, afraid to be different. In chapter two Tom convinces Huck to join his gang with the intent to steal and Murder who ever got in his way. Huck struggles with this because he does not know how to feel about what they are doing but goes along with what Tom says anyway. Tom says to Huck "Shucks, it ain't no use to talk to you, Huck Finn. You don't see to know anythin, somehow-perfect saphead."(23) Anytime Huck has an idea that he thinks would help, Tom shoots it down and tells him that he is always wrong. When Tom does this to Huck it makes him question anything he does because if what he says is wrong then he wonders what is right. When Tom shows back up at the end of the book Huck seems to almost go back to his old self. Huck tries to stand up for himself but when they are freeing Jim he still goes with whatever Tom tells him. When Tom is around Huck he plays a significant role in his trying to decide with his conscience and his
Aunt sally and The uncle get a mysterious letter which she finds odd therefore right after dinner she sends the two boys to bed, and Huck looks out through the window and sees that there are fifteen un easy locall farmers with guns which have gathered at their front porch and they start attacking the shed. Huck runs to the shed to warn Tom and Jim but that only excites Tom, they escape through a hole they had made in the wall and escape and make it to their canoe safely, and set sail down stream. They are happy to have succeeded, and Tom having a bullet wound in his leg is especially excited. They call for a doctor which outs Jims life and freedom at risk. Huck thinks to himself why jim has compassion for white men swell he thinks to himself
Supposedly, concerned parents did not want their kids around Huck because he is a bad influence. That did not stop Tom though. Quickly, Tom and Huck become best friends. Huck is an orphan who does not stay in one place for very long. One night, Huck decides to take Tom to the graveyard. They were looking around for a little bit until they saw a group of guys. They sneak up just in time to see Doc Robertson holding what looked like a treasure map. Curiously, the boys cautiously inch closer and see Ingine Joe stab Doc numerous times and kill him. Shocked, the boys quickly run to Huck’s hideout. Huck makes Tom swear an oath not to report what they have just witnessed. The boys
Huck and Tom tiptoe through the Widow's garden. Huck trips on a root as he passes by the kitchen, and Jim, one of Miss Watson's slaves, hears him from inside. ... Jim says aloud that he will stay put until he discovers the source of the sound, but after several minutes, he falls asleep.
In the first chapter of Huckleberry Finn, we met who introduces himself as a character who already appeared in Mark Twain’s, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. He goes on to tell the Tom Sawyer found money that robbers had previously hid in a cave. Huckleberry Finn asked Judge Thatcher to invest the six thousand dollars for him. We then met Widow Douglas who took Huck in as her son. She tried to show Huck how to be civilized. She taught him proper manners and how to dress right. At the end of the chapter Huck sneaks out of his room to go to Tom Sawyer.
In chapter six Tom meets the new girl whose name is Becky Thatcher. They “get engaged” then Becky finds out that he was “engaged” to Amy Lawrence. Becky did not take it very well so she left him (Twain, 70-71). After he had his heartbroken, Tom ran away and did not return to the afternoon class. He waited for school to be out, then Huckleberry Finn, Joe Harper, and he went to a nearby island to be pirates. When they showed up missing the town put up a search group to look for their bodies in the river. After a few days had passed Tom went to Aunt Polly’s during the night and found out that there was going to be a funeral for Tom, Huck, and Joe. When Tom got back to the island he told the others that they were missed and that there would be a funeral for them. Now that they know that there is going to be a funeral, which was the whole reason they ran away, they were planning a surprise entrance to their funeral. That Saturday Tom, Huck, and Joe made their entrance to their funeral, after they heard all of the nice things people said about them they pop up out of hiding and surprised everyone. In chapters nine and ten Tom and Huck go exploring in the grave at night and they witness Injun Joe’s murder of Dr. Robinson. They swear to each other that they would never say a thing about
‘Well, we’ll let the cry-baby go home to his mother, won’t we, Huck? Poor thing — does it want to see its mother?... Huck could not bear the look, and dropped his eyes. Then he said: ‘I want to go, too, Tom. It was getting so lone- some anyway, and now it’ll be worse...‘I won’t! You can all go, if you want to... He [Tom] made one final struggle with his pride, and then darted after his comrades, yelling: ‘Wait! Wait! I want to tell you something!’ They presently stopped and turned around. When he got to where they were, he began unfolding his secret, and they listened moodily till at last they saw the ‘point’ he was driving at, and then they set up a war-whoop of applause
