One important reason that Howie and Laura's excursion was not justifiable and was foolish and they should be punished for their actions is that Howie and Laura face trouble everywhere they go. When Howie and Laura arrive at the Dining Hall, Howie begins to be angered by Pardo."The boy kicked him hard in the side of the knee. Pardoe made a loud, ugly sound and fell down on the floor." (Page 85). What this means is Howie and Laura face trouble when Howie ended up in a fight with Pardoe. Howie and Laura also end up making a commotion in the Dining Hall. The other side of the argument is Howie and Laura have been helped by many people along their journey. But the argument that Howie and Laura face trouble everywhere they go is still true. During their time on the municipal beach, Howie and Laura end up stealing clothing, baskets."If you kept him busy I could grab a couple of baskets.”(Page 42). The point is Howie and Laura faced a situation where they had many choices but chose to steal. Although they had needed new clothing, it is still not justifiable for stealing other’s clothing, which explains how the evidence proves the claim. Of course, it is possible to disagree with the view that Howie and Laura could have been arrested for stealing and instead argue that Howie and Laura needed to steal to survive. However, stronger evidence is on the other side. What must be remembered is that Howie and Laura would not need to steal if they had gone back to the camp. This is essentially why Howie and Laura could have been arrested for stealing. Howie and Laura had many options when it came to leaving the cabin, they could have waited to be brought back to the camp but they chose to run away. Howie and Laura’s actions are not justifiable just because they are
This is case, at times, appears as proving Steve as innocent, but other times is seems that Steve is guilty. For example, Bobo Evans had said “I’ve been knowing King my whole life. Just met the other guy the night before the robber went down”. This is making Steve seem guilty by including him in the crime. If Bobo had just said that he had known King his whole life and had not mentioned Steve at all it would have made Steve look like he had not participated in the robbery. The quote “Me and King planned a get over and we done it” portrays Steve as innocent because it does not mention him help plan the crime. Unfortunately for Steve the testimony from Bobo had hurt him more than it had helped. Another quote that had hurt Steve’s case was “He was supposed to tell us if anybody was in the drugstore. He didn’t say anything so we figured it was all right”. This had flat-out said that Steve had been a part of the robbery and had done his part. Bobo had also continued on to say that they had seen Steve leave the store, as planned, before they had entered the drugstore. Therefore, because of the evidence, Steve’s case is evidence that not everything is as it
My final key reason Howie and Laura’s actions were immature and foolish and they should be held accountable for their actions is that Howie and Laura stole from people and commited fraud. After Howie and Laura got off of the island, they stole clothes from a hotdog stand at the beach and later on pretended to be 2 adults at a hotel, they then stole food from the hotel restaurant. What this means is Howie and Laura are thieves for taking the clothes from the hotdog stand at the beach, Laura had distracted the man in charge while Howie stole clothes from right behind the man. Howie and Laura commited fraud when Laura called the front desk of the hotel pretending to be a woman who had previously stayed there, they also committed fraud when they
The second reason Ralph's family should have moved to the ranch is because they became ranchers. Father, Mother, Ralph, and all of the rest of the family learned how to become farmers. Father learned how to take care
Mr. Parrish: Mr. Parrish’s perspective was to raise his son to be a man. He wants he son to conduct himself, but he is correcting his behavior by physically beating Bob.
In contrast, Jack represents the selfishness of the individual and the desire to have fun without regard for safety or the consequences to the group of not being rescued. All the boys have been raised in a society that has taught them right from wrong. Ralph and Piggy are attempting to maintain a sense of order and provide some of the elements of security for the group. Jack and the other boys that follow him are only participating actively in the hunt, and the pursuit of their own interests. In either circumstance, the boys involved are making a conscious choice. They are aware of their actions and although they may not fully understand the repercussions, they do understand that they are not following the direction given by their chosen
One vital reason that Howie and Laura should be punished is because they broke the law, repeatedly and were not punished. The text provides evidence that the sheriff won't be pressing charges, Margo Cutter tells Ms.Golden ‘I dont think sheriff Prosser will be pressing charges’’(p. 166). The circumstance was that they were bullied, this does not warrant criminal activity. It is saying that this proves that they are delinquents. With lack of repercussions their delinquent actions will continue, they're not realizing it's wrong.
2 a) There are substantial charges that could be laid against Smallweed and Esther. The charges of attempt [s. 24] are laid against Smallweed because Smallweed intends to steal the valuable painting by Alex Colville and takes drastic measures such as opening the widow, using a plastic bar, and other housebreaking instruments to commit theft whether or not it was possible under the circumstances to commit the offence. The charges of counselling an offence that is not committed [s. 464] are laid against Esther. Esther is guilty of an indictable offence and remains liable to the punishment of theft because he counsels Smallweed to steal the valuable painting even if Smallweed doesn’t commit theft. The charges of attempting the impossible [s. 24(1)]
Instead of judging the crime fairly, the police jumped to conclusion based on little evidences. When Ronald Cotton went to the police station to make things right, they have already decided he is guilty. The police used a picture drawn from a victim’s words, a flashlight, and a piece of dirt that came from a shoe lace as evidence, which could come from anyone, to arrest him at first. They were angry he dated a white girl, which shows they took the case personal. As Ronald cotton wrote, “I looked Sully real steady in the eye, Like a lot of people in town, he didn’t like the fact that I had dated white girls.” (/////_). In addition, the cop excluded Ms. Reynold’s evidence which didn’t testify Ronald Cotton as the rapist. In the day of the lineup,
My overall position is that Howie and Laura had malevolent and dangerous, when they have trouble with some malevolent people, laura was in constant danger, and then mad encounters with dangerous people. Evidence that explains this is Laura and Howie had conflicts
In the case of Lord of the Flies, the justice was served by putting Jack and Roger in life of prison. Jack and Roger are responsible for two deaths, Piggy and Simon. It is true that Jack didn’t push the rock but Roger did. Jack Merridew is a bully without regard for the laws and behavior that are part of civilized society. The boys are on an island by themselves.
Cesare Beccaria was dead set against unfair punishments. He believed that the punishments should fit the crime. (Cesare Beccaria) For example, if a person is caught stealing bread, and the court decrees his hand should be cut off, he will have to steal again because he is unable to feed his family with one hand. He also believed in abolishing the death penalty. Because the boys do not establish a competent justice system, as Cesare Beccaria argued any effective government must, they fall into a state of anarchy. Jack’s actions are a perfect example of the failure of the boys to have a justice system. After he lets the fire go out, Piggy and Ralph tear into him. He cannot bear the truth of his actions and turns to the only way of coping he knows - preying on the weak. “This from Piggy, and the wails of agreement from some of the hunters, drove Jack to violence. The bolting look came into his blue eyes. He took a step, and able at last to hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy’s stomach”(Golding 71). His violence in a society today would not be condoned. He would be brought up in front of the proper authorities. Unfortunately, on the island, there are no proper authorities. The justice system is nonexistent. This allows Jack to continue doing wrong things without fear of repercussions. This causes the island to fall into a state of anarchy because no one is afraid of breaking the law. They do whatever they want, whenever they want. Eventually this leads to the boys killing their kin for they have no
Finally, Laura and Henry were having a conversation, during which Laura mentioned that she though OUTOCAR deserved to win the competition. during a conversation between Henry and Laura, she mentioned that OUTOCAR should win the competition. Upon hearing this, Henry tried to influence her to change her decision to GUIDEME for his personal interests.
The thing is, the situation the boys are in is a life or death situation and it seems that only Ralph and Piggy are the ones that realize this. When jack left the group the rest of his understanding of survival where all lost except for hunting . Throughout, the story Jack becomes more and more power hungry, but now that he has gone wicked all he can think about is revenge toward his rival leader Ralph. “He’s going to beat Wilfred.” “What for?” Robert shook his head doubtfully. “I don’t know. He didn’t say. He got angry and made us tie Wilfred up. He’s been”—he giggled excitedly—“he’s been tied for hours, waiting—”(Golding, 159). From killing other striving animals, physically hurting piggy, and to tieing up wilfred to beat him. Jack is wicked in every way shape or form. Jack took advantage of his new position as leader on his group and went bloodthirsty. Then the monstrous red thing bounded across the neck and he flung himself flat while the tribe shrieked. The rock struck piggy a glancing blow from the chin the the knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy, saying nothing, with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock, turning over as he went (jack signals the boys to roll the boulder to go pummel the boys and ends up killing piggy) (Golding, 181).
When speaking about gender behavior and if it’s socially constructed we are observing to the way society and culture characterizes and creates thoughts and attributes on issues that shift all through certain time periods and different cultures. There are numerous speculations that propose the improvement of the distinctions when managing the varieties of males and females in the public eye. Some social researchers propose biological contrasts, referring to the different mind structures and the hormonal contrasts between the genders. Others merit society, opposing that the methodology of socialization starts as infancy and concludes as an adapted being inside a few years. Most discover some center ground between the two. Plenty of opposing data keeps on fuelling discussion today.
The mobile phone is one of the greatest inventions which facilitates our everyday life. We can search up information in a matter of seconds and communication have never been easier. Yet there are two sides of the coin and the usage of mobile phones in today's society has gone too far, in a society where nearly everyone over the age of thirteen possesses a mobile phone, most of the youngsters feel the desire to pick up the phone as soon as the phone vibrates. In school this behaviour is interrupting the learning process of the students, as well as it's disrespectful towards the teachers who put their greatest effort into educating. The banning of phones in school is necessary for improving school results, reducing the harassment of people in school, decreasing cheating and to secure our future we must secure our students!
