How Work Affects who I am I have learned a numerous amount of aphorisms, or lessons, throughout my life so far. My family, friends, teachers, and reasonably everyone have taught me something in one way or another. These lessons usually come through with a change in my life. One change important to me was acquiring a job. This job has given me a positive learning experience (for the uttermost part) and an education of working with others. Well, here’s what I know about going to work. In November of 2016, I decided I needed to obtain a job. In winter, I didn’t participate in any school activities, so I thought instead of wasting my time sitting at home, so I should pick up a job. I asked some friends and family about where I …show more content…
Working at a restaurant is a fast-paced job that requires you to work and deal with others. It also requires you to bring food that not only tastes excellent but it presentable. Now, the other main person I know and work with is my boss, Kristin. She has brown eyes, black hair, and whenever I examine her, she is always wearing black (even outside of work). Kristin is intimidating and demanding like every boss should be. Kristin is the daughter of the owners of the steakhouse. She “runs the show” with every event happening at work. Kristin has taught our group in the kitchen different lessons, like Skylar, to take into work and possibly into how we live. According to Kristin, when it comes to serving food, “It is all about presentation.”Another example of something that Kristin has taught me was that she had noticed that someone standing around one night not doing anything. Then she told us, “If you are at work and not doing anything, then why should we pay you?” I interpreted that as you earn what you work for. What she spoke had stabbed me. Today, October 19, I still persist working at the Hartford Steakhouse. I work usually more than half of the week and remain in training to become a cook, or the person making the steaks. Overall, I determine that working has changed me in a beneficial way. I have learned countless different lessons overall in the time I have been working there. These lessons may apply to how I live, how I act in a workforce, and
Lastly, becoming a student worker has given me the opportunity develop my professional skills. As mentioned earlier, I have developed my public relations skills through my work, but I've also learned how to prioritize my tasks and how to balance work and personal time. My employer allows me to create my work schedule- with that comes the option of over-working myself, or not working enough in order to avoid responsibility; I learned what my limit it is and how to determine when the appropriate times for me to work
My job has had an impact on shaping me into the person that I am today because of the new experiences that I have been exposed to. Never would I have expected to walk into the restroom at work and interrupt a homeless woman giving herself a bath using water from the faucet, the acrid hand soap and then drying herself with paper towel after paper towel. Or having to call 911 because a man was caught injecting heroin into himself- not something I would ever think to experience in my life or at 17 years old. Or when a woman buying a gallon of ice cream told me that she is celebrating her 95th birthday by herself, so I sang “Happy Birthday” to her. Which led her to start crying-and myself a little- and then asked to give me a
* What did you learn about what you like and dislike from your past work experience?
“Why we work” by Andrew Curry was very informational and resourceful. So it was not hard for me to agree with him about employees being stressed out and discontent with their jobs. Andrew gives multiple reasons to agree with him. Most of the reasons come from experience from my past and present jobs. Others reasons come from economy problems. I agree with Andrew because I to was stressed out and discontent at my past job Applebee's.
Why did I choose to write about workaholics? The main reason is that the general picture about these people is bad, but there are a lot of them around us and very often we admire them. They are doing exactly what they love – work – and they can never have enough of it. Although they spend most of their time working, surprisingly they are happy. They show so good results in what they do. But the consequences are great. Family life is disrupted, intellectual horizons narrow and the consequences to the workaholic's health are severe: fat, lack of exercise and stress. Why do people become workaholics? When a person becomes workaholic is there a way back? How should people around him act in order to keep both him and themselves
After walking out the doors of my job at Wendy’s for the last time, I wondered what else besides the money and free food did I actually gain. I did gain weight and I did gain experience for my resume but what other positive attributes did my first job at Wendy’s give me? So, as I sat down and pondered, I realized that I enjoyed working at Wendy’s because I learned time management, gained more ambition and became more mature.
Many people today find themselves in “dead-end” jobs, or they feel like work is purposeless and frustrating. At the same time, some people figured out that work is a blessing to them. People who suffer their lives in a slavery for many years in another country, think that work is a curse because they were ruled by people. They work because they are forced by other people. Work is a blessing for most people, but for some people work is a curse because of the lack of opportunity. Work is a blessing for those who understand it. To understand that work is a blessing was one of true understanding the purpose of life. It is important because not knowing the purpose of life brought people depressed. As Honore said “I'm retired from the Army, but
A person’s identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person’s identity. Some factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture may influence a person’s sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and sports, and many other aspects of life. Friends and surrounding environments may influence a person’s taste in clothing, music, speech, and social activities. Personal interests are what truly set individuals apart. An individual is not a puppet
The three things that have made the biggest impact on and have influenced my life that shaped me into the person I am today are family background, experiences from my school year, and religious beliefs. Our culture provides a lens through which we view the world and interpret our everyday experiences. In order to know who I am today, I must look at who you’ve been. Many educators around the country are interested in developing a multicultural approach in their teaching. They find themselves in classrooms with 25 children of varying racial and cultural backgrounds, and are looking for ways to connect what they do in the classroom to the cultures represented by their students. Before we can begin to understand others, however, we need to understand ourselves and what we bring to our interactions with others.
The work environment has helped me learn responsibility such as paying bills, having money for my own interests or wants, and showing me adulthood. It has showed me support through other fellow employees to strive to understand and be a better employee for the business. They also give me insight on what I do they enjoy, like, or dislike about my work ethic. Although, work can be important and show you adulthood, it also can be stressful. The stress of wanting to do the best you can for the business and handling all the other responsibilities I have.
There’s a lot we can learn from the stories of our past – if we tell them in such way that enables us to hear what they really have to say. This holds true with me and my life. To put it simply, the life I’ve lived up to this point has been nothing short of a beautiful (and bumpy) roller coaster ride! As I have grown up there have been many factors that have influenced me to take on or do certain things. These things, plus some of my individual choices, have contributed into what’s made me who I am today. And with that, I’m happy to say for this moment in time, I’m satisfied with the person I am and the path I’m taking.
"Work" is a positive thing for many people. To some people, it may be described as a place to escape from the kids, or even a time consumption thing for a single or retired person, but most importantly it is what we do in order to provide for our families and ourselves. Work is something that we all will experience at one time or another during our lives.
My family says that I should finish my studies first before working. They said it would be a struggle to pay for my car insurance, so I decided to look for a job. But that’s not the only reason why I wanted to work. I also wanted to work because I wanted to gain work experience so that it wouldn’t be hard for me when I get a job in the future. During my summer vacation, I applied to Target and had an interview. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the offer. I also applied to Century Theaters but they didn’t have a spot with my availability time. Finally, I
When I look in the mirror I know whom I am, but society makes it difficult to understand who I am, because I was born to immigrants of Nigerian descent, and I am a first generation American, that term is sometimes used so loosely. By looking at my name they assume that I am from some island, but I am so quick to tell them that “I am Nigerian”, there is another statement that normally follows this. “You do not have an accent”. I wonder if I had an accent would I be considered Nigerian and not American; then I say that “My parents are Nigerian” and then that changes, so to them I am just associated with the Nigerian culture it does not make me Nigerian, there has been many discussion between my friends who are the same like me confused to
The workplace was always very clean, which also created a nice environment around me to focus on my work. That’s really a good thing because a nice working environment keeps me safe, healthy, and gives me more energy to do my work. This company was also very well organized.
