How was Life in the North Different from the South
Regarding the world in the 1800’s, life in the North was very different then life in the South. There are many areas that prove this statement to be true. Some differences include the geography, the economy, and society. The North and the South both have some things in common. Other than that, they are opposites when it comes to everyday life.
One noticeable difference between the North and the South is geography. In section two it states that the North experiences all four seasons, showing that the climate patterns can vary. According to section two, the book states that there are different places that have different physical characteristics. For example, New England has a lot of bays, Boston has many seaports because they are near water sources, and Pennsylvania has rich soil. The South however, only had one weather pattern. In section three the book states that the South has long and harsh Summers and short Winters, which shows that the South really only had two seasons: Summer and Winter. Obviously, Summer and Winter are polar opposites. Similarly, in section three the book states that there is a lot of land that is covered in marshes which

The two places have opposites economies. In section five the author states that the North developed machines that had interchangeable parts. This is important because instead of having to change the whole entire machine, they can just change parts. Also in section five the book states that the Industrial Revolution changed the work of men to the work of machines. For example, they developed the cotton gin, which does the work of 50 people. As for the South, they based their economy on agriculture. In section four the book states that they only owned small plantations. This is very different from the North because they had huge factories while the South only had small
One of the main Economic Differeneces where that there where more trains in the north then in the south. I think that is because the southern people didn’t wont the blacks to get on trains and leave to the north or train. Another one is that more cotton factories were in the south then the north and i think this is because there were more slaves in the south then the north obvoiusly because the north didn’t have slaves. Another thing is that in Doc B they say the populations are very different from the south had 23,000,000 and the south had 8,700,000.
How was life in the North different from the South Life was very different for the North and the South in the 1800s. One area was transportation. Another area they were different was their economy. The last way they were different was they both different in societies. The reason was the South had a wealthy class and the North had only a middle class.
The North attracted many people for religious reasons and eventually developed a profitable shipbuilding industry based on the natural forests and harbors. More people who were interested in profit inhabited the South. This lead to the importation of a lot of slaves. Women's and slaves rights differed too, the South had fewer women so they were treated better, and the North had fewer slaves so they were not treated as bad. But overall both regions profited and lived happily off their
In the North, labor was expensive and workers were always mobile and active. However, unlike the North, the South’s labor was built on the labor of slaves who were forced into providing cheap labor. Another economic issue that separated the North and South was the idea of tariffs. The South favored low tariffs as this kept the price of imported goods low. The problem southerners had with the idea of high tariffs was that they feared European trading partners might raise prices on manufactured goods that were being imported to the South. In the North, however, high tariffs were viewed more favorable because these tariffs would make imported goods more expensive. This resulted in the goods produced by the North to seem relatively cheap and Americans would want to purchase the American goods rather than the goods produced by the Europeans. The most obvious is the different economies the North and South had. The North was expanding towards an industrial base while the South was intensifying its commitment to an agricultural based economy. The North and South also differed in the production of goods. The North produced goods such as lumber and textile while the South produced goods such as cotton and tobacco. The south strived for cheap imports while the North used a variety of industries that had to do with anything with machinery. The South had several small towns that were self-efficient while the
The south had less railroads and wagon trails, which resulted in transportation being more difficult. The south was a bit less educated than the north, because they focused primarily on agriculture while the north consisted of more factories. Therefore, there were opposing social practices.
On other hand, the north had cooler weather which was an explanation for why they had higher birth rates and they had poor soil so they could not plant cash crops and was forced to rely on trade, the south had warmer climates which is why birth rate were so low, because it was really hard for them to survey with harsher weather and they had Richard soil which is why they had a built on cash crops. For work in the North, there was a lot of poor soil so they had to could not plant so they relied mostly on trade but of course to get to that trade they had to build ships, those ships mad them the money to be able to do such stuff. In the south they had the richest soil which meant that they could easily generate cash crops and they plants crops and had slaves for labor giving more power of the actual generating of crops green. The north is very similar to the south, they both have have little technological advances to be none and both had simple metal tools the north metal tools are mainly for ship building and the south very attractive the same very small advancements they had those tools instead of for ship building ,for example hammers and saws they add more like hoes and shovels and many planting tools. The north relied heavily on the products on the south to export to England to get their money and had shipbuilding economy, because there was a lot of trees around which meant
The first difference between the North and the South is the population. The population of the North was about 22 million citizens. This means that there were plenty of people in those states just in case they were to start running out of militiamen. The population of the South was only about 9 million. This meant that if they were to get in a war with the Union they could possibly run out of men. They north nearly had 13 million more people than the North. One reason that the North has suh a bigger population was because the increasin in immagrant. ⅞ out all immigrants that came over to” America”went into the northern states.
In the late 1800’s the North and South had many differences. There were social, economic and political differences between the North and the South. The way people were treated was a common theme among these differences. These differences were factors that led up to the Civil War in 1861. The social, economic and political differences between the North and the South almost divided the United States of America.
Life in the South and life in the North were two different places. They both had different ways of life and how they thought. Geography was one way that life was different, so they had different ways to adapt to their environment. Economy was another, the South farmed while the North has factories. The last way was transportation. The North have double the amount of railroads compared to the South.
The north was different from the south in many ways because their geography, society, and transportation were different from each other. They had different kind of weathers and different kind of people living there.
The fact that the North was more urbanized and industrialized, and the South more rural, also meant that the way of life was rather different. People in the North lived in cities or towns, which had recreational spaces. Different urban sports were done in the North, which were not common in the South for slaves were not given free time.
Throughout the 19th century, the distinctions between the North and South in the United States were controversial. Prior to the Civil War, the North consisted of business owners and middle-class men. The South consisted of mostly farmers. The North was industrial, using railroads and factories. The South was agricultural, with mostly farms and plantations. The North paid their labor workers. The South used slaves. Not only did their opposing views on slavery and the separation of the two cultures, tensions arose that eventually led to one of the most gruesome wars in history.
The most important difference between the north and south was the issue of slavery. The South was primarily agricultural, and the southern economy was based upon the existence of large family farms known as
One of the most striking differences between the North and the South was the climate and geography. The North’s climate was full of warm summers and cold winters; the terrain was rocky and hilly, which wasn’t good for farming. But the North did have little farms. Most of the forest was used for shipbuilding, and cities were used for trading centers. The rivers were fast and shallow which made it hard to navigate. Also in the North people used waterpower to run factories, because it was a cheap source of energy. The South was somewhat different; the climate was generally warm and sunny. The summers were long and hot, and the winters were pretty mild. Due to the South’s climate they were able to grow different crops in large amounts, unlike the North. The south had large farms, called plantations. In the South cities developed near rivers, because of rich soil which made it easier for them to farm.
While both the North and the South had stable and confident economic systems, the North was much more industrialized and diversified and with a better transportation system they not only had the ability for mass production but also the means for speedy and
