The movie Super-Size Me provided a lot of insight on how important it is to be fit, and eat healthy on a regular basis. Sixty percent of Americans are obese, and America has become the largest country in the world. Super-Size Me shows what eating out can do to your body in just one month, and even if it isn’t eaten every day, it will have the same effect but slower occurring. Many kids and adults are involved in athletics, but not nearly enough. There is a lack of exercise in all ages, especially with teenagers. With all the stress from school, grades, and friends, people usually eat more, and with a lack of exercise this is bad. This is why I strongly disagree with the idea to eliminate PE and health due to budget cuts. Fundraisers or other things can be done to get money, there are better ways to fix the school’s budget than getting rid of what most kids only source of exercise is. The movie stated that 400,000 people die of obesity every year. Just by keeping PE and health some of those lives can be saved. Sixty percent of Americans don’t get exercise at all. Most habits are formed early on, and if frequent exercise is a habit formed, this can promote a healthy lifestyle. Budget cuts can be solved in ways other than eliminating exercise for kids and teenagers who desperately need it. …show more content…
I also disagree with this plan of action because many teens and kids struggle with weight, and putting soda at easier access is a bad idea. Yes this would raise money for the school, but why soda? Why not water or freshly delivered fruits and veggies? Even packages of dried fruit and nuts would be better than soda. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death, and putting soda at a closer grasp for bored students may make it the first leading cause
Over the years, as obesity has become a growing concern society, role of fast food as a cause for obesity has been questioned. Morgan Spurlock’s concern for obesity motivates him to test an experiment on whether McDonald’s food poses a threat on one’s health. Under the close supervision of doctors Spurlock eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner at McDonalds for the next month the danger of McDonald’s food by eating it three times a day for the next month. As the director and main character in the documentary, Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock demonstrates his purpose by successfully developing and winning his argument along with using rhetorical appeals such as ethos, logos, and pathos.
Choosing a topic for this paper brought great difficulty. However, with a brief comparison of the options it soon became clear what the topic was going to be: Parks and Rec. The main idea of this article is about how to live better without the limits of different kinds of stuff we own. The author is a middle-class man who owns a lot of things compare to with the normal people. But he figures out, when he owns more things, he’s life will occupied by those material things. And he can’t feel happiness with the rich life. At the end, the author learned that he can be happy to without a material rich life.
The eating habits that Americans have are either healthy or unhealthy. The healthy individuals are probably the ones that work out, eat the right foods, and watch their daily consumption. While the unhealthy ones are probably, just eating whatever is in their face at the time, drive everywhere, and don’t watch their daily intake. Because of this fact, it is easy to see why obesity is becoming a huge part in the nation. The authors are trying to prove that “Americans eat everywhere, all day long-an average of five meals a day, including snacks” (2012, p. 621). Many people don’t think they are actually eating a lot because their proportion size is smaller than a normal meal but if someone were to look back in the past they would find that the size would be much smaller. There are many consequences that come from being obese, the authors only use one but it is one that really puts a prospective on things. “Obesity already reduces the current life expectancy in the United States by four to nine months…Obesity rates among children and teens could knock off as many as five years from todays average of 77 ” (2012, p. 620). Knowing this statistic helps the reader, look at their own life and think about what they could do better. The authors helps the reader to become aware of how bad eating habits can affect the rest of someone
America's children are not getting enough exercise, and the health risks due to obesity are becoming epidemic in nature. Even First Lady Michelle Obama is supporting an initiative to help children become more active and to provide for exercise (at least 30-60 minutes per day) in all schools. Even limited amounts of exercise can have great health benefits. When humans exercise, the brain produces chemicals that help enhance mood, limit cravings for sugars, and contribute to healthier joints, muscles, the heart, and kidneys. In turn, this translates into more productive work time, the ability to sleep better, increase memory, and reduce dependence on medications. Children are so vulnerable to this health risk that if it continues, over 60% of graduating seniors will be clinically obese. Written by a medical journalist, the book is designed for the lay reader but has a number of documented scholarly sources.
Fast food is sweeping the nation, and is causing obesity. America is the number one to obesity. 1 out of 4 people visit Fast-Food restaurants, because of americans busy working schedule. Obesity within adults is a prevalent problem in the United States, with over 51% of all adults suffering from obesity by the year 2030 (Joyner et al. 217). Obesity, or the state of being excessively overweight, is sometimes a result from what is known as food addiction. Much like an addiction to a substance, to be addicted to food is to constantly crave a certain food item (Joyner et al. 217). Obesity and food addiction tend to coincide with each other. That coexistence is shown primarily in the documentary Super Size Me, in which director Morgan Spurlock focuses on the way fast food and food addiction affect the human body.
A just government is fair, balanced, and gives back to the citizens of the nation that give consent to be governed so that the nation may be secure. It is important to have a just government so that the nation can continue to evolve. The Constitution created a just government that provided more security than the Articles of Confederation had previously provided. The founders of the United States intended for all citizens to experience a just government through the Constitution. The Constitution established a balanced state and federal government, taxes that created federal revenue, and three branches of government that provided a just government for the United States.
Nearly 70% of americans are overweight due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Now americans just eat to eat due to the abundance of food in America. One of the many unhealthy lifestyles is eating while watching tv or playing a video game. Instead of eating healthy and exercising people just become lazy and eat all day. All these unhealthy lifestyles can lead to many life threatening diseases and an unhealthy weight. Being obese can increase the risk for heart disease, diabetes, gallstones, and many more. Obesity can also increase the chance for a heart attack and severe respiratory problems. These are just a few things being obese and having an unhealthy life can do.
Some people think that schools should offer only nutritious drinks such as white milk, water, and natural fruit juice and situationally, I agree with this policy. I believe only offering healthy drinks will be a great impact on our schools today. For instance, caffeine drinks can cause children in today's schools to become obese, which will cause children to live an unhealthy lifestyle when they grow older. Caffeine drinks can cause insomnia in children. Insomnia is a sleep disorder, for example, it will not allow children to sleep properly. Caffeine drinks will not give children's bones the nutrition that they need. However, serving nutritious drinks in our school cafeteria can be the solution to all of these brutal conflicts.
In watching you Super-Size Me by Morgan Surplock it brings up very valid point about today’s society with habits and trends. The movie brings up some alarming facts, how direct medical cost have doubled in the past five years to the drug effect from the foods he was consuming all the and to how Thirty billion dollars is Bing spent on diet programs, pills and weight loss methods ( a quick fix) verse less money spent on actual fitness. It is alarming how the greed of corporations are willing to harm their own species just to have money. It can show how not just McDonalds has not acted alone in addicting the human race to danger foods. Many do not realize how this food can be addictive and how is a company responsible if a person has low-self-control? The facts are simple not just with advertisement there are simple
Author’s have different tactics with how they convey their themes, and how the message impacts the reader. Themes can be conveyed through characters, plot lines, or symbols. In Tennessee William’s play, The Glass Menagerie, the author effectively uses symbolism to convey that escaping reality is a method of coping with life’s hardships. First, William’s effectively uses the fire escape as a symbol of inward issues Tom tries to escape. Not only does the fire escape serve as a physical entrance to the Wingfield's apartment, it also serves as "a structure whose name is a touch of accidental poetic truth” (I.i.9).
I am a young, heterosexual Latina who is a full-time student and worker who resides in the South Bronx with her mother and father, aunt, two sisters and niece. My background roots from the beautiful island of Dominican Republic but was born in the United States. I belong to the Christian church and believe deeply in the Lord Jesus Christ. My political views lean more to the Democratic wing. I like the concept that in America, especially New York City, we see a variety of people, who are brought up with different cultures and I can make the comparison to a salad mixed into one bowl. We all keep our separate identities but share our cultures or assimilate to others.
There is nothing more important than health, especially in this day and age. It’s concerning that only 29 percent of high school students surveyed by the CDC (2011) had participated in at least 60 minutes of physical activity on all seven days before the survey. The CDC also noted that only 31 percent of these high school students attended physical education class daily. Only 8 percent of elementary schools, 6.4 percent of middle schools, and 5.8 percent of high schools provide daily physical education to all of its students (SHPPS, 2000). The government is missing the fact that physical education can actually improve test scores, not the opposite.
