11/ 5/17, suspected gunman Devin Patrick Kelly parks into the church parking lot wearing all black tactical gear and a ballistic vest, obviously planning ahead of time for a shootout if things happen to go sideways. Devin continues on to grabbing his Ruger AR assault rifle and stepping outside of his vehicle parked right in front of the church door. Immediately after closing the door of his car, Kelley opens fire on the church. Windows shatter and boards break as bullets punch through the walls and into people, killing some and injuring others. Devin then proceeds to enter the church and kill any people he didn’t. He walks up and down the halls, slaughtering men and women alike, shooting anyone who tries to escape. Kelley walks up and down the church for a lengthy period of time, shooting the people who cower in the corner or on the ground. One woman who was in the church at the time of the massacre said that the suspect didn’t …show more content…
There are millions upon millions of guns with even more ammo pouches on top of that. The thought that anyone can just collect them all is hilarious. People also believe that the NRA (National Rifle Association) is just handing these guns over to the shooters without any background checks whatsoever, but that is so far from the truth. There has not been a single mass shooting under any member in the NRA because they actually do do background checks on people before handing over a semi automatic firearm. The bottom line is that criminals will be able to get their hands on dangerous weapons one way or another. It would be impossible for Devin to have received the gun through the NRA because he was a criminal. Besides, guns 90% of the time are used for protection purposes and a family’s own safety. It is probably safe to say that banning guns on society is absolutely bogus, and everyone should just follow the second amendment. (right to bear
On November 5, the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Devin Patrick Kelley shot at the church. The shooting killed at least 26 people, with many more wounded.
Harper Lee uses the novel To Kill a Mockingbird to describe how life was in the 1930s. Harper Lee uses her novel to explain about real life problems in the 1930s to explain the Scottsboro case by using the 6th amendment and the 8th amendment, the education of African Americans, and the stock market crash to relate to her novel. The life of African American who are being judge by all whites. In the book To Kill a Mockingbird some examples of racism are the Tom Robinson case and how the jury treated him unfairly because he was black and they were white and this relates to real life because of the Scottsboro case which happen to have two white women accuse nine African Americans to have raped them and they were judge
I have been a student in the Thomas County School System ever since I started pre-school. During my time here, I have loved every minute of it, learning and having great experiences with friends and teachers here. Over the last four years of my high school experience, I have noticed that there have been more threats of bombings and shootings around the nation. Even though we do have a safe school and take precautions, there is still room for error. I am proposing that we make school a safer place for kids to learn by installing bulletproof glass as well as door-stoppers in each class.
As the athlete fell to the ground, no one knew what was wrong with him. The athlete had torn the meniscus in his knee and would possibly not be able to play for the rest of his college career. Although college athletes risk getting hurt every practice and game, I believe they should not be paid money for playing the sport they love. College athletes play their sport because of their passion for it, not because they want to get paid. Opponents claim that if you put yourself at risk for injury or if you train for as many hours as college athletes do then you should get paid.
On August 26, the great country of United States witnessed yet another tragic event unfold on live television and all over social media. Two news reporters, Alison Parker and Adam Ward, were shot and killed by a former colleague, Vester L. Flanagan II, out of haste and anger at the news show for removing him from his duties as a reporter. The victims were found with multiple gun wounds to the torso and head. To help prevent any more tragic events such as this one, we as Americans need to find a way to make a change in how easily it is to purchase a deadly weapon that can be used to inflict some serious damage to another human being by having restrictions on what weapons you can buy, getting a background check on the person for any criminal
“Former Student Opens Fire at Florida High School, killing 17” According to NBC News, this was the tragic headline after another school shooting. This can’t happen anymore. Something needs to be done about the tragic school shootings. That's why I think teachers should be properly trained and then given a gun.
We now live in a world where we have to protect children no matter where they are. It's crazy how we now have to take extra precautions to protect children while they are even at school. School shootings have gotten more frequent and deadly in the past few years. Approximately 17 years ago on April 20, 1999 in a small town called Littleton, Colorado, one high school was about to change forever. It was one of the deadliest school shootings in the nation's history.
In order to solve the problem of violence in schools, we must first find out who the problem is. Being that not every teenager is prone to participate in such violent acts as what happened at Columbine, there must be specific environment imposed on a particular biology to turn a teenager into an Eric Harris or a Dylan Klebold. These are not normal, healthy teenagers, and they don’t just become killers overnight. They become killers because they are already deeply disturbed individuals who can be sent over the edge by all sorts of innocuous influences. Violent teens often have specific characteristics that put them at high risk for committing these crimes. These high risked students may display some of the following traits. First,
April 20, 2018 17 people killed by a gunmen at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida. April 20, 1999 13 people killed buy two gunmen at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. My point is is that where do these gun laws take place, never? why do we decide to sell these mentally ill people guns when they are causing these school shootings when are we going to change these gun laws, how are these kids getting guns. What we need to do is if people have records of being mentally ill we need to not sell the these guns, if we make it so mentally ill people cant get there hands on guns there would be a big decrees in school shootings, In 2018 alone there where 20 school shooting where people where hurt or killed.
In The United States of America, 285 people have been injured and 126 have been killed in a total of 73 shootings that have occurred within the first three months of 2018 (Mass Shootings Tracker). This is a sad reality which is sweeping across America. Gun control has become an increasingly controversial topic in our nation, but people aren’t shying away from it. In order to create a safer society with less gun-related incidents, we need to set more gun reform laws that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, and use of firearms by civilians.
Cost – The initial cost of mHealth equipment has acted a barrier in adoption. From the mHealth solution’s development perspective – the development and maintenance costs are also hindering the adoption.
There was a report of a shooting on the Umpqua Community College campus in Roseburg, Oregon at around 10:38 a.m. on Thursday. As of now, 10 people, including the gunman have been killed. Seven people were also injured in the shooting. The gunman has been identified by government officials as Chris Harper Mercer. President Obama stated that “anybody that does this has a sickness in their minds regardless of what they think their motivations may be”. He continued by saying “The United States of America is the one advanced nation on Earth in which we do not have sufficient common sense gun safety laws even in the face of repeated mass killings”. Obama calls these types
Mass shootings have become a problem in the United States and the only way to decrease the number of incidents is to enforce stricter gun laws. In the recent years gun laws have come under fire for a variety of reasons that all stems back to the tolerance for high caliber and magazine weapons in our country. Assault rifles and other rapid-fire weapons have become all too easy to acquire in our nation and I believe the citizens of the United States have begun to realize this. Consumers have found loop holes around the newly implemented laws in the United States with third party acquisitions and gun shows that take place around the nation. With the recent laws that have been imposed, stricter background checks as well as an increase in the number of conceal and carry permits. I believe this is a great sign for our country with these laws, we are allowing citizens who have been trained and have checked all the boxes to carry weapons and ideally be in positions to defend us against attackers. For example, in San Antonio this last weekend a good Samaritan with a conceal and carry permit was able to wound an active shooter while he was fleeing the scene. I understand he did not prevent the incident, but I believe he was taking necessary actions to stop the shooter from harming other unarmed citizens. In this essay I will discuss what laws and precautions have been put in place to eliminate other incidents such as this one and whether they are adequate for this day and age.
Unfortunately, the notion of schools being a safe place is no longer a trend across American schools. Disturbing mass shootings in the U.S continue to shock the media. A school shooting is when someone attacks a school using a gun. The Secret Service says these shootings are "deliberately selected as the location for the attack". The reasons massacres occur in schools is because of poor security, violence in video games/media, and bullying. Shockingly the U.S. has the most school shootings than any other country in the world. According to the FBI, mass shootings occur, on average, every 2 weeks in the U.S. While the cause of school shootings are sometimes unpredictable, it is a growing issue and they need to be prevented. Most shooters don’t have mental issues, they have a plan to kill, so there is no singular cause that creates violent people. On April 16th, 2007, the most deadly school massacre occurred. Seung-Hui Cho killed thirty-two students at Virginia-Tech. As Americans, we no longer should turn on the news and witness these gruesome murders. We try to make sense of these murders, but it’s ineffectual. There are measures we can take as a society to help. The number one question in a school massacre is, "why would a person that has a capable sense of mind even do that?” It is our moral responsibility to fix these issues. In order to stop this problem, we need to find its roots.
There are many problems in this world today. One main problem in the United States and all over the world is mass shootings. This problem is a huge one because it involves people killing other people and that is just unacceptable. In the last ten years there have been over 53 mass shootings in the United States, not including the rest of the world (Chris Wilson). In the last thirty-five years there have been seven-hundred and twenty-two and then one thousand one-hundred seventy-seven (Chris Wilson). If you look at the number of people that are killed or being wounded, you will notice that with new devices being introduced. One of the devices that have been introduced is a bump stock. This device is a stock for a semi-automatic rifle that can basically turn your semi-automatic rifle into a fully automatic rifle. They are considering making this attachment to a rifle illegal to the public.
