More Atomic Bombs,No More Lives. I had a fight with my my friend. She said mean things to me and then i said mean things to her in return. I really regret saying these mean things to her because they have only made things worse. My mother’s uncle is married to a Japanese lady. One of their daughters has a disease called “Hiroshima”. Until today japanese are suffering from diseases that did not used to exist before the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. President Truman thought that the atomic bomb was a military weapon weapon and it was meant to be used, i totally disagree with him because the atomic bomb is an extremely destructive weapon and it killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The atomic bomb maybe a way to end the war, but it’s the most destructive way and we should avoid it. William Leahy, Chairman of the joint chiefs of the staff, was against using the atomic bomb because it killed civilians indiscriminately. He believed that “ economic blockade and conventional bombing would convince Japan to surrender” (Leahy,William). I do agree with him because an economic blockade would have affected their free-markets. Also, secretary of war Henry Stimson wanted to “warn the …show more content…
He said “I am become death, the destroyer of worlds” (Oppenheimer, Robert). If I were the creator of the atomic bomb I would have felt the same way. I would have not forgiven myself for creating such a destructive weapon. I would have guilty for the rest of my life. Henry J.M. Nouwen said “ the thought that human beings are considering saving lives by killing millions of their fellow human beings is so preposterous that the words ‘saving life’ have lost all of their meaning. One of the most tragic facts of our century is that ‘NO’ to nuclear weapons has been spoken so seldom, so softly, and by so few” (Nouwen, Henri
In the brutal and deadly Pacific Theater of World War ll, President Truman had to make a crucial decision on whether or not to drop the atomic bomb on Japan. Some believe that Truman’s actions to drop the atomic bomb were unethical and inhumane; however, Truman was justified in his decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan due to the fact that they are our enemy, saving American lives is the first priority, and the atomic bomb will ultimately prevent Russia from gaining control of Asia.
Claire Wyma President Truman was not justified in his decision to use Atomic weapons against Japan because the U.S. now has a threatening appeal, it goes against morals and humanity, and the bomb resulted in a tragic number of casualties. First, President Truman’s use of the Atomic bomb was unjustified because the U.S. now has a threatening appeal to other countries. In Admiral William E. Leahy’s memoirs, “I Was There,” he states, “In being the first to use it [the Atomic bomb], we. . . adopted an ethical standard common to the barbarians of the Dark Ages” (Doc 3). The idea of whether or not the Atomic bomb should be dropped has been debated for years.
The United States should not have dropped the atomic bomb because it was inhumane. By using that powerful bomb on japan lots of people died and lots of people lost their children, families, and it also ruined everything on their land so they can’t have access to anything. According to document ‘E,’ the evidence shows that it was hard for Japanese because they lost lots of people, 64,000 people total died from Nagasaki and 135,000 total died from Hiroshima which was terrifying. This evidence helps explain that the U.S. should not have dropped the atomic bomb because it took lives of civilians and innocent people.
Truman was right to drop the atomic bomb, rather than invade Japan. Invading japan would have cost one million u.s. casualties and one million plus japan casualties. If Truman would have invaded Japan the Japanese Soldiers and civilians would fight to the death rather than be captured. Truman was right to drop the atomic bomb because, saved lives ,and was humane. Additionally, Truman was right to drop the atomic bomb because it saved lives.
In conclusion, it does not matter the decision of Truman to order the dropping of atomic bombs was right or wrong. It matters how effective that decision in ending the war and saving lives of soldiers. And history proved it. With those two atomic bombs, the
The American use of atomic weapons on the Japanese was immoral. During the war, President Truman justified the use of the bomb by saying Hiroshima was purely a military target. According to President Truman in a radio report: “The world will note that the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima,
Was Truman actually justified in dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima? The atomic bomb on hiroshima was devastating. It killed thousands of people in the process of finishing the war. Truman and the rest of the country were rushed in finishing the war but didn’t want to lose any more men than they had to. In the writer’s opinion Truman was not justified in dropping the atomic bomb because of how many lives were lost and how inhumane it was to drop the bomb.
In conclusion, the Japanese are a resilient and honor bond people who know when they are beaten. This along with all the other statements mentioned in this paper goes to show that Japan would have surrendered if the bombs were not dropped. Although funding the War would have been much harder to do. Many more Americans and Japanese soldiers would have died as well. But, in the end the bombs didn’t need to be
“Truman stated that his decision to drop the bomb was purely military. Truman believed that the bombs saved Japanese lives as well. Prolonging the war was not an option for the President,” (ushistory.org 1). President Truman and the United States government made a fair decision by dropping the atomic bomb on the Japanese citizens in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during 1945. The bomb allowed the United States to appear more powerful and led to them influencing the rest of the world. The dropping of the atomic bomb was also a just response to the previous atrocities committed by Japan to other countries including the United States. In the long run, the bomb saved more lives that would have been lost in the war, since the bombs caused the
President Truman made the best decision he could have when he chose to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII. When you ask any historian whether or not Truman was right to drop the atomic bomb, you’re asking one of the most debated questions among them. This may seem like it should have a simple yes or no answer, but if you look deeper than the surface level, you’ll see it’s a lot more complex than that. Some think he was wrong to drop the bomb, and morally he was. However when you put yourself in the shoes of a president protecting your country and look at the war from a political and strategic viewpoint, you begin to realize he was right for dropping the bomb.
Harry S. Truman once said in his speech, “The atom bomb was no 'great decision.' It was merely another powerful weapon in the arsenal of righteousness” (“Biography of Harry Truman”). It didn’t matter whether the decision to build and drop the bomb was worthy or not, it was just another weapon for righteousness.
A huge proponent to the use of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6 and August 9 of 1945 was President Harry Truman. Although they value the ideas and contributions out in by
During World War II, President Harry S. Truman ordered for an atomic bomb to be dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on August 6th ,1945. The second and last atomic bomb to ever be dropped was in the city of Nagasaki on August 9th, 1945. Many Americans believed dropping the atomic bomb was necessary to end the war in a more timely manner, however, many others believed dropping the atomic bomb was too extreme of a measure to take against Japan. With the creation of the atomic bomb, the United States had a weapon of mass destruction that no one else yet had. Therefore, with the power the atomic bomb possessed, some people believed its use should only be used as a last resort. If Japan would not surrender during this war, then the United States would have a valid and necessary reason in using the power of an atomic bomb. For the other Americans that believed in the immediate drop of the atomic bomb, dropping it would end the war sooner, which would then decrease the amount American soldiers who would be killed during the war. Whether dropping the atomic bomb on Japan was the most ethical decision that President Truman could have ordered is still debated.
There is no simple answer as to whether the atomic bomb should have been dropped on japan or not, I believe that the decision made by Harry Truman over 70 years ago was the wrong one, yet I am painfully aware of his reasoning. After all hiroshima and Nagasaki were not the only barbaric acts of this war.
In 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped over Japan on Hiroshima and Nagasaki which resulted in thousands of civilian deaths and a detrimental impact on the environment.
