The play is about the witch trials and how something like a group of girls in the woods could lead to about 200 people being hanged and accused of witchcraft. The people of Salem were new to Massachusetts as they were puritans who went off to America to set up a new religious colony . The people were new to their surroundings had the Native Americans as enemies because they took their land. The trials started off with accusations and escalated quickly to extreme measures like executions. The Holocaust also had an unthinkable outcome that ended with the genocide of Jews. These events start with innocent rumors and end with an unfixable aftermath. The Crucible applies strictly to past events like the Holocaust, because of the large amount of hysteria and irrational actions of the people that leads to mass murder.

The final subject or idea that The Crucible was about was truth. If the truth was told any/ everything that happened in the book or novel would have never happened. Truth took a big part of the book because without truth everyone could have just been telling lies. An example of truth in the book is when elizabeth is true and not lying about her not being a witch or being a women of the devil. Even though she is telling the truth the other children are saying otherwise and saying that what elizabeth claims is false. Not only does this part of the novel but the whole novel shows that when you lie and do not tell the truth bad things will happen. It would have been better if the kids just confessed and told the truth. In the novel, the court and the reverend as usual, believed the lying kids and not the truthful men and women. As I said, if the truth was told, innocent people would have not died and been hung.

After he found the girls in the wood, his daughter Betty fall ill. Since Betty wouldn’t wake up, people become paranoid and started believing that witchcraft was real. Fake accusations were made and innocent people kept dying. In The Crucible there are many people to blame for all for everything that occurred, characters such a Abigail Williams, Reverend Hale, and Reverend Parris. Abigail Williams is to blame because she accused everyone else just to protect herself. Reverend Hale is also blame because he was the one who got people to think that witchcraft was real. Lastly Reverend Parris is to blame because he was just worried about himself and his reputation in Salem.

The Crucible was based in 1692 in and around the town of Salem, Massachusetts, USA. The Salem witch-hunt was view as one of the strangest and most horrendous chapters in the human history. People that were prosecuted were all innocent and their deaths were all due to false accusation of people’s ridiculous belief in superstition and their paranoia. The Puritans in those times were very strict in personal habits and morality; swearing, drunkenness and gambling would be punished. The people of Salem believed in the devil and thought that witchcraft should be hunted out.

In the beginning of The Crucible, there was a scene that shaped the whole play and affected almost everyone in the village, this scene was the forest scene. There had been many things that related to the forest scene. The largest part of it although had been if this scene would not have happened, the sentences of death and the confusion around the village might not have had happened. Three things that are tied together with the forest is that it is prohibited for anyone to go into there because of how dangerous it is, the way it gets accused of witchery, and how it caused such innocent people to be sentenced to death.

In research, I have read numerous facts on the Salem witch trials and have discovered that the witch trials are a very wide known topic which possesses many different opinions on the subject. The mass hysteria over witches started these trials. Since held in 1692, television programs today consist of witch characters in their series including some bad and some good. Clearly, the thought of witches has made its way to our world now-a-days. An obvious theme in this play is lies and deceit. Most of the characters in The Crucible are lying – if not to other people, then to themselves.
