How Is Race Being Socially Constructed

I have to say this was the first time I looked at race and ethnicity as being “socially constructed”. I had to really look at what the definition was and what it really meant. After reading the article you provided and chapter 2 in the book, and also doing a little surfing to find other articles on the subject. I agree with Mr. Johnson that race is “socially constructed”.
I believe there is one kind, which would be “Humankind”, all living human inhabitants of the world. Humankind has many different races and cultures, within each of those are different genetic traits and characteristics I think you can keep breaking it down into smaller and smaller groups of people. We are all human and as the article stated according to the Human Genome Project we are 99.9% alike. “What makes us physically different is determined by one-tenth of one percent of our genetic make-up” (Sills, 2010). Large Groups of people even at any type of gathering separate out into smaller groups and there are many different characteristics that may cause that like ethnicity, gender, age, personalities, professions, likes and dislikes, beliefs, the list goes on. All of the things that separate people do not change that we are human beings. When I look at why one group of people would disregard another or disrespect another human, I see fear.
