In the story of Macbeth the main character Macbeth becomes very corrupt. In the beginning part of the book Macbeth starts to become corrupt when he isted by three witches that tell him that he will become king(Shakespeare, Act 1, Scene 3, Line 51). Even tho Macbeth could of been a man that was respected and even kind he was very easily corrupted to think that he would become king. In this book Macbeth’s first victim will be the one and only King Duncan himself. When he kills him he uses a knife in the dark of night and stabs kim very brutally and then leaves the knife there, but his wife comes back to get it and hide it. Finally he becomes king and gets more and more corrupt after each person he kills.
Know in my second point I will be talking
Although Macbeth commits the murder, Lady Macbeth shows that she has just as many dark and corrupt thoughts as him. The one who comes up with the murder plan is Lady Macbeth, directly after she learns about the prophecy. After Macbeth informs her of the king’s overnight stay, Lady Macbeth’s first words are “O, never/ Shall sun that morrow see!” (1. 5. 67-68) as her plan to kill the king is already being put into motion. If Lady Macbeth had not made the plans Macbeth may not have gone through with the murder. Lady macbeth becomes a driving, manipulative force to Macbeth. She justifies why killing Duncan is good and shames him into committing horrible deeds. When Macbeth tries to refuse she says “When you durst do it, then you were a man;/ And, to be more than what you were, you would/ Be so much more the man.” (1. 7. 54-56), challenging his masculinity. In the end, Lady Macbeth isn't the only one who’s mind becomes corrupted, she drags Macbeth down with her. Finally, Lady Macbeth pretends that the guilt doesn’t really bother her, she simply tells her husband that he is weak. She tries hide her corruption through lies and by putting Macbeth down, but in the end she falters, realises her guilt and drives herself insane.
In the play 'Macbeth', Duncan was the King of Scotland and was the first victim in Macbeth’s murder rage. In the beginning of the play, Duncan showed his appreciation of Macbeth and his honorable actions in the battle. He talked about the trust that he had in him and how he was an example of an honorable warrior. In the play, King Duncan was regarded as a very respectable man, but the real King Duncan was a nasty, selfish, and rude warlord. Even so Shakespeare decided to make him a respectable king with a good legacy since Macbeth was planning to kill him.
Macbeth does not become totally corrupted at first after killing Duncan. Actually, Macbeth stays very skeptical and weary of the crime he has committed so much that he refuses to go back into Duncan’s room and finish the job (Act II: ii: 48). While Macbeth seems very sting on the outside, one sees how weak his is mentally. Macbeth craves being able to be completely powerful, and after the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth becomes much more involved in the thought of becoming all-powerful.
Macbeth was an honorable warrior, content to be fighting to protect King Duncan and Scotland, Duncan though of Macbeth as one of the finest soldiers in the land fearing no man nor enemy that came his way. Macbeth being unsure of himself made him morally ambiguous he knew what he was doing was wrong but at the same time he wanted more power, respect,to please his wife that at the same time the murder of duncan didn't seem wrong. The murders that were planned by macbeth shows an evil persona taking upon him he wanted power,to be a great king macbeth didn't let anyone get in his way of achieving that goal even if it meant killing friends, families nothing mattered but the crown. We can’t blame Sir Macbeth for his behavior besides if you were promised, fame fortune, and everything that came with it what how far would you go to get
When you finish reading Shakespeare’s Macbeth, you feel bad for the Macbeth for what he has become. Macbeth was a man with a great future ruined by outside sources. Throughout the play Macbeth changed from a noble soldier and turned into a memory of his past self. Every moral that Macbeth had at the beginning of the play changed in his rise and fall as a king. He was a great military leader but when he was promised the crown by the witches, and his demanding wife pushed him to the edge he began to make poor decisions. You can certainly feel sympathy for Macbeth based upon how he is treated throughout the play by other characters.
“Et tu, Brute,” Just like Caesar, King Duncan met their demise from the blade of a trusted “friend's” sword (Julius Caesar, 3.1.77). Macbeth’s role in the murder of King Duncan is among the most menacing of crimes. Although Macbeth commits the murder, his wife instigates the entire plan. Lady Macbeth forced Macbeth into murdering the King which puts Macbeth in a delusional state where he questions his actions. The premeditated murder of King Duncan in Shakespeare’s play Macbeth can be blamed on one person only, Lady Macbeth. Even though the blood is on Macbeth’s hands, literally, the plan was not set in motion until Lady Macbeth organized the slaughter. Macbeth fully shows his belief in the concept of Happy Wife, Happy Life.
he would soon be king. From this point, his actions lead to terrifying consequences involving
With Lady Macbeth and Macbeth completing the murder, the people of Scottland need a new king and with the kings sons gone there was only one other person. Macbeth was finally king and had gotten the power he wanted. Corruption of power doesn’t stop once you have done what was needed to get there. Once someone is corrupted they will most likely always be that way. For Macbeth he was corrupt of power till the day he died. As the play goes on, Macbeth does not stop after he acheived the title as king, he began to start killing the people who posed a threat towards him losing the crown. For example, in act 3 it says, “ And with him- To leave no rubs nor botches in the work- Fleance, his son, that keeps him company, Whose absence is no less material to me Than is his father’s, must embrace the fate Of that dark hour. Resolve yourselves apart. I’ll come to you anon” (3.1.138-144). Macbeth knows that the prophecies the witches told him said that Banquos sons will become king and Macbeth feels threatened. Macbeth sends murders to kill Banquo and his son so they won’t be on the way. Power that corrupts even the nicest people, can change them into something ruthless and can make you kill some of the people you are closest too. Being corrupt with power wil also bring alomg guilt and behavioral changes. For
Similar to Lady Macbeth, Macbeth is presented in a deceptive manner, first appearing to be a hero, but eventually deteriorating into something else. His formidable contributions on the battlefield are overshadowed by his lust for power, which leads him into killing Duncan so he that he can take the throne. Indeed, it is the witches who plant the thought of becoming king inside of Macbeth’s head, but it is Macbeth who immediately “yields to the suggestion” (1.3.146) of murdering, which despite “make[s] [his] seated heart knock at [his] ribs (1.3.148), is a thought that he completely created on his own. The witches spoke nothing of murder, showing that even without being deceived, Macbeth has a dark mind. And although Lady Macbeth convinces him to go through with the plan, all of the other dark deeds he commits are formed based on his own thoughts, not those of others, showing that he is capable of deceiving without needing help from others.
It is said “Power corrupts but absolute power corrupts absolutely.” This quote can describe Macbeth very well. He becomes so corrupted that he starts disposing of every person he deems to have a chance to take him off the throne. The murders of lady Macduff, the children and the servants were done out of cold blood, showing Macbeth had gone into a power hungry state of disillusionment.
Introduction paragraph: In the play Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, we explore different atmospheres of ambition and corruption throughout the play. The main events of the play include the killing of King Duncan and the power and corruption that takes over Macbeth. Shakespeare uses many different ways of showing how Macbeth becomes more corrupt after gaining more power each time. Macbeth even hallucinates the people he has killed and goes crazy in the Scene, also known as the Banquet scene. Also going back to the start of the play, Macbeth was seen as a noble and worthy man, then becomes a corrupt power hungry monster.
After hearing the prophecy that he will become king, Macbeth resolves to leave his future up to fate proving his pride and prestige are very important to him. Once he is told of Malcolm being named successor to the throne, Macbeth decides that if he is going to reach his goal he cannot leave it up to luck. Again Macbeth’s resolve to murder Duncan wavers when he leaves the grand banquet to assess his situation and decide whether he wants to proceed. His arguments include wishing to keep his honor and not kill Duncan for Duncan is there ‘in double trust’. Thus, Macbeth is shown to be clinging to his honor. Finally, Macbeth must stand his ground one last time against his wife who uses tact to emasculate Macbeth. In his final attempt to stop the whole ordeal before it can start Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he does not want to ‘cast aside’ the honor he has just recently received. Unfortunately, Lady Macbeth will have none of what her husband is saying and so convinces Macbeth to follow through with his plan of murdering King Duncan. Hence, the audience is given the first example of how powerful selfish motives are and how quickly they can spread to others along with cause them to perform unthinkable
In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is introduced as someone who works for the army that is under the rule of King Duncan. In general, it’s likely the person is ambitious, one who wants to get more power and that one person would be Macbeth. Fortunately for him, he was informed of his fate to become king and as time went on, he found out that he had to commit treason for that fate. Macbeth throughout his journey in the story becomes corrupt due to his ambitions, fate, and mental health. First, one of the factors that caused Macbeth’s corruption was his ambition for power.
At this point Macbeth has not become fully corrupted, he decides that he “We will proceed no further in this business”(1.7.35 Shakespeare). Macbeth wants to bask in the honor the king has bestowed on him before he kills him. Because Macbeth has extreme slaver for king’s honor he feels guilty for wanting to kill the king, after all, he gave to Macbeth. Lady Macbeth however, believes Macbeth is being untoward and she is outraged. Lady Macbeth questions her husband's previous thoughts and convinces Macbeth to go through with the plan. Macbeth becomes power hungry and the idea to kill the king overpowers his judgment. Now both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are corrupt and are already on their way to the
After Macbeth had slaughtered King Duncan, he was filled with a guilty conscience, regretting his wrong. His wife however, thought he was infirm of purpose. This was the first murder that Macbeth had experienced, however after the first murder, killing seemed to be the only solution to maintain his reign as king. Therefore, it was Lady Macbeth who introduced Macbeth to murder, turning him into a murderous villain and leading him to his decadence. Macbeths ambition influenced his declining character and led to his demise. Although Macbeths ambition had not been strong enough to carry the motive to kill King Duncan, with the added contribution of Lady Macbeths influence, his ambition was intensified enough to drive him to obtain and maintain his title as King of Scotland at no matter the cost, even the life of his good and loyal friend, Banquo. Although Macbeth did not have the mental strength to murder King Duncan on his own, he had the black and deep desires hidden in his heart. It was this fuelled ambition that ultimately led to his downfall. All in all, it was the combined factors of the witches prophecies, Lady Macbeths manipulation and plan, and ultimately, Macbeths intensified ambition that all contributed greatly to the degeneration of his character, resulting in his downfall. Macbeth was never a tyrant to begin with, although as his desires and wickedness grew, so did he develop the
