How Is Holden Caulfield A Dynamic Character

As regards the main protagonist, Holden, there are many things to comment on him. From the beginning of the book, we can observe that he is not the typical character that usually appears in books. The first thing that amazes me about him is his way to speak. He uses strange vocabulary and some unusual expressions when he is referring to readers, that is, when he is telling us his thoughts. Secondly, he is a rebel boy. At the end, he tells us that he is expelled from the school. This fact shows that his behaviour was not very good and he could have fought someone. During the novel, we can observe he is a great reader and he knows many things about New York, as well. At that point, I really believe New York appears like a character. I mean, Holden knows it like the back of his hand. He shows us everything about New York. That is the reason why I think it appears like a character, we know everything about it. The last point that I want to mention is related with alcohol, sex and religious. The last one is not very important for him; it does not appear in the novel many times. However, the others are very relevant. Holden likes drinking alcohol and he behaves as an adult in that sense. Regarding sex, I believe it is the most significant point in the story. Holden is always asking his friends if they are virgin or not. He thinks of it many times in the story. When I started reading, I thought he was an obsessed with it but I changed my mind. It happened when he rejected the prostitute. To sum up, I think it is important to mention the title of the book. When I was reading it, I did not relate the story to its title but I saw the relation at the end. It appears when Holden is talking with his sister. He confesses he would like to be a “catcher in the rye”. I believe it is a symbol of his bad childhood; he wants to be a catcher to control children and it could be the way to be always there, in
