I was not very excited to take the UNV 100 class when I had to register for classes last Fall semester, and I thought it is a waste of credits. However, since the first day of class and overtime I changed my mind completely. I changed my mind due to several reasons I will be discussing in this paper.
The main reason is that I found the environment of this class very similar to my high school environment, which was a STEM high school. In other words, I have always been challenged in this class to think critically and solve problems ranging from very small problems to big controversial social issues. And this is a skill that I learned and have been practicing in high school, but in a science context. Nevertheless, I did not recognize the

For example, the “Streetcar Named Desire” movie was a real example of how theatre was a very powerful of art that addressed one of the big social issues at that time in the US. I also liked other examples and movies that we watched in class regarding theatre as a very influential form of art that was banned and faced by the power of the government. The government did that because they recognized the negative impact of theatre on their benefits and its impact in raising people’s awareness. In addition, I liked the movie in which orchestra members were interviewed to talk about how music is a form of art that bring people together and may solve big issues. I liked that many of the orchestra members were from different backgrounds and from different cultures as well; however, they all agreed that playing music is a very important aspect of their lives. In my view, that was a very good example of how music is a very powerful art tool that touch people’s feelings no matter where they are from and it may also contribute in bringing people together.
A very important thing that I want to reflect on is that we, as students, were involved in this class. We had several projects where we had to present, participate in and model certain social issues and solve them either as individuals or as groups. For example, when the class represented art institutions which had a very limited “imaginary” budget to raise
Changing high schools in the middle of the school year were a rough experience for me. Most of by a reason of never feeling accompanied and necessary in the new school. Teachers and students seemed all building wall boundaries and not wanting to communicate. Especially having to deal with language barriers and emotional distress I decided that it’s not the place that I will attend and dropped out. After shifting my life one hundred eighty degrees, switching from working here and there with no chance of advancement, I finally decided to obtain a GED. In past coming from a family history that education is not important and in fact none of my relatives having a higher education, now I came to the understanding that higher education is an essential
responsibility to class life. Every so often, I addressed my class on understudy gathering, comodified
Though I am excited for this class, I know that it is a great deal of work and that it will not be easy. In conclusion, I have reviewed the grade distribution in the class, and how without participation, doing very well in the class will not be an option, the various resources that Professor Frasure has shared to ensure our success in the class, and finally the means of communication between the professor and the students. After reviewing these things, I am hopeful to do well in the class, and prepared to work hard in order to earn my
High school has changed me a lot, then I thought It would. It's probably made me a better person and thinks a lot smarter. Last year I worry about other than myself now I realize you have to sometime think about yourself. I watch out what I say now because sometimes you just have to keep it to yourself. Friends lost a lot of them, they just took the wrong path, so now I try to stick to a small group of friends instead of being in big groups of friends like I use to. I trust less people because I asked people a question that I knew already and they would lie to my face with no smile just a dead serious face so I have a little bit of a trust issue. I'm more discipline in Middle school I was a kid that wouldn’t like to listen to people because
The term "life-changing" is often thrown around. Whether is be a new diet, a summer camp, or a mission trip, many things can be considered life-changing depending on who you ask. When I started high school, I had no sense of who I was or what I wanted to do. I was a young freshman who just tried to get by with decent grades and a group of friends, but not much more than that. At that point, there was no path for me to follow, but there was an open field for me to explore. And boy did I explore it.
One spring, day, or summer day, or whatever season it was, I came home from Mrs. Murphy’s fourth grade class. I sat down at the cold, marble dining table in the kitchen, so I could do my homework. My dad was putting tequila flavored-wings into the microwave as a snack; his usual snack to eat when he comes home from work. We are an Indian family; a god by the door, cabinet full of them as a prayer space, and we have a few statuettes of elephants. Not a typical Indian family, we are just AN Indian family. There’s a difference.
Throughout the decades there has been a plethora of cultural events that have been passed down from our elders. Whether it be stories to physical artifacts, the beauty of art has never gone away. For many people theatre is a way of expressing themselves, whereas others go to enjoy it. The world of live theatre has had a great cultural impact and is a interesting way to learn about people all across the world. Theatre has been able to have such a big impact on society over the years in a myriad of ways by confronting societal issues that have been around whether it is through drama, comedy, satire or any type of genre as well.
Saying that high school has shaped me into who I am today is an understatement. As expected, freshman year was challenging, but I could not have expected graduating high school with five AP classes under my belt and a GPA above 4.0. As a freshman not knowing what my purpose was in life, I struggled to find motivation to get my work done. I was truly blessed to have my supportive sister in my lunch period in which we would meet up in the library every day to study together. While I used both my study hall and lunch periods to do work, I noticed that I ended up still having an excessive amount of work left to do at home, compared to what I had grown accustomed to in middle school.
How i changed in high school was little help and time but time will tell the rest of my high school years.
The purpose of this essay is to reflect, to reflect on a class nobody wishes to take but has to. It is also to reflect on what was learned in said class.
High school is known for the place where people find themselves; figure out who they are as people. I thought I'd not change much at all as I came into this new school. All I knew was that I would change my likings as I grew older, but not as much as happened. I use to be a shy follower of a group of friends that I had. I also was a slacker; just doing enough work to get by my parent's rage over my terrible grades.
This class is very different from the traditional lecture classes. The professor did not teach the concept and cases from the textbook. Instead, students needed to study on their own and took quizzes to test their understandings. This saved time and left more time to discuss in class. Usually, students would bring up new topics and knowledge accordingly, which motivated us to learn more and deeper.
For my first paper, I decided to choose a film I had heard a lot about but had never seen, The Sound of Music. This film was released in 1965 and was an instant hit around the country. It broke the record for most box office hits of all time and it really brought out the light in musicals. It has a lot of significance in film history because it was one of the first major musicals. There had not been a lot of musicals before this film and with how successful this film was it paved the way for musicals to be more successful in the future.
I would like to believe that I entered this class with a positive and optimistic outlook. I was eager to learn exactly what the class was about, and ready to exemplify my prior knowledge to contribute to class discussions. As we discussed the valorization of culture, I immediately drew focus. I was finally able to be in an environment where we could discuss subjects that pertained to and interested myself. Learning how to think critically when discussing art was extremely bennificial when applied to my own experience. Because I was able to make those connections, I was able to genuinely immerse
As this semester is ending, I am reminiscing about how overwhelming this class was. However, I acknowledge that there are a lot of astonishing things I have learned from this course. As an Engineering student, I was craving to acquire more knowledge that would help me in the outside world. Some things went as I desired and others did not, but I recognize that I could have done a better job to make this lesson more significant.
