The name was eventually changed to The Walt Disney Studios. By the end of 1927, the Disney brothers created a total of 56 Alice comedies, which proved Walt as a producer and built up his animation studio that rivaled others in the business. In 1928, their company took a hit when almost all of their animators jumped ship and went to work for Universal Pictures. It was projected that Walt Disney’s animation career was over, but he kept fighting and it taught him to never give up control of his creations. Though the tale of how he came about isn’t clear, Mickey Mouse debuted on November 18, 1928. From that day, the Walt Disney Studios took off with the creation of Snow White in 1937 and Pinocchio and Fantasia in 1940. However, the studio took a break from movies after Pearl Harbor in order to aid in the war effort by converting the studio into a wartime industrial plant. After the war, Disney reconquered the title of leader of animation and rest is history. With the opening of Disneyland and the premiere of The Mickey Mouse Club in 1955, the company has only flourished. The Walt Disney Company (Disney) from character animation and expanding into other adjacent businesses with the aim to bring happiness to the family through several different, but related channels. In October 1923, Walter (Walt) Disney and Roy Disney Brothers Studio set up and start creating animated films that would eventually become the basis for Disney "3". In 1937, Disney created Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This film is the only animated film to the position of the American Film Institute list of the 100 greatest American films of all time "4".

Walt Disney was alive in the 1920’s. He was a film maker and a cartoonist. He opened a studio for making cartoons in 1923. He also created a theme park for all ages. In 1928 his first motion picture was produced. it was called “Steamboat Willie”.

Walt Disney started out by producing short animated films in 1922 and in 1928 introduced Mickey Mouse, the world most famous cartoon character shown in Figure 4 below (Olsson 1996; Kramer 2002). Following this breakthrough, Kramer (2002) found that Disney proceeded innovatively with new film technologies of sound and colour that resulted in the first successful animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937.

Walt Disney Films are known to be as an incredible and outstanding fantasy stories producer. It created more than a hundred of films. Majority of what has been produced rely on fictional stories. The films that were released used animation to capture children’s interest and musically performed as well. Walt Disney produced fantasy stories like The Little Mermaid 1989; Sleeping Beauty 1959; Beauty and the Beast 1991; Cinderella 1950 and more. The tales most often than not were always about the life of a princess in search of her prince charming.

There have been many animated movies that were very popular during the 1940’s and 50’s. Some are still watched and have been recreated in today’s times: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, and Dumbo. Although not the first animated movie to be created, Fantasia (1940) was the first movie to connect classical music with animations.

On December 21st, 1937 Walt Disney released his first full- length film called Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It produced a total of $1.4 million and won eight oscars, in spite of the depression. “Within five years, Disney studio completed four more full length animations: Pinocchio (1940), Fantasia (1940), Dumbo (1941), Bambi (1942)” (“Walt Disney”). Unfortunately when his company was relocated to Burbank, many of his employees went on strike because they though his style of leading was dictatorial.

The Cold War inspired fear of communism and a hatred towards the Soviets. The Cold War was a major time of impact for this stereotypical image of America. “Walt helped shape America self-image during the Cold War” (325). Donald Duck was a large character in the display of the Cold War. He used Donald Duck getting drafted to highlight the patriotism Americans should feel.

Mickey became one of the most famous characters. Walt’s first big Mickey cartoon was “Steamboat Willie” in 1928. He also created other characters during that period of time including “Donald Duck” and “Pluto”. He won his first Academy Award in 1932 with the cartoon “Flowers and Trees”. In 1937 he made his first full-length movie with his debuted cartoon “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”.

After losing everything, Walt and Ubbe decided to create another cartoon character now known as Mickey. After creating a series of short cartoons Mickey became the world’s most popular cartoon character in the 1930s. Walt created his first full-length animated musical feature in the production of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” which exceeded over $1,400,000 in profit (IMDb, 2010).
